Unless this is for manual users too....then never mind....but I am pretty sure that looks like a automatic tranny cooler
And no it wont fit a xA just incase one of you guys ask
fr130 06-08-2004, 10:51 PM  xB looks scary with out the front bumper

Futureicon 06-08-2004, 10:59 PM OK, and now for what may be a dumb question: Whats the point? I've never seen one of these before, nor have I ever had a tranny overheat. So what is it for?
dinkjs 06-08-2004, 11:00 PM Exactly that....to keep your tranny and tranny fluid cool to let it last longer and such....personally I think they are great investments even for a daily driver car
dgHotLava 06-08-2004, 11:09 PM just got goose bumps......
there's a supercharger under that xB's hood. :D :D
i know they've been around for awhile, but i still giggle like a girl every time i see it.
that would also help explain the need for the cooler.
at least blitz hides them behind the bumper, remember the pics from the japan car show where the coolers where hanging on the outside of the bumper...

The reason they put them out there so they can get maximum cooling
satanisanerd734 06-08-2004, 11:46 PM I want that set up on my xB.... but I have heard that the supercharger by blitz isnt worth it.....

Then dont get it....just get the auto tranny cooler then
TheScionicMan 06-09-2004, 12:26 AM They also put them out there to show them off. I wouldn't think the xB really needs a tranny cooler unless you're putting it under some heavy stress, like forced induction or towing...

If you want a longer living tranny and a whole lot smoother shifts yea its worth getting....but I dont know about putting it right there in front of the radiator...I would think more like closer to the tranny under the car
Low_N_Slow 06-09-2004, 04:54 PM I Use to install these when I worked for U-Haul.
That little super charger under the hood is the main reason you would want to run the cooler. You are now running more power than the tranny is use to and will heat up faster and get hotter. Helps increase the life of the tranny.
As for placing in front, that is a standard place. Just like the radiator it needs air to keep it cool.
Workbox 06-10-2004, 01:02 AM Did you install it yourself? Also, I have an injen intake, and put between 2500-3000 miles per month. Would this help?
Carolina_Guy 06-10-2004, 08:25 PM I've never installed an after-market tranny cooler, but $480 for the cooler, fittings, and lines seems like a lot of money to me!

Yea and personally I think they would help even if you drove a normal amount of miles every month
WagenMaster 06-10-2004, 08:41 PM These transmission coolers are made for cars that are towed long distances, not ones with average use.
When you see people driving an RV, and they have a car in-tow for them to use once they get to their destination, they usually have a transmission cooler added to their vehicle so it stays cool and doesn't wear down when they're technically not even driving the vehicle.
There's no reason to add one to a daily-driven average car, even if you're able to bump up the hp in your Scion to 150...But if you tend to drive long distances at a continuous high speed, then it might be a good idea.
tbblizzard 06-10-2004, 08:52 PM and whats ATF stand for?
dinkjs 06-10-2004, 08:56 PM and whats ATF stand for?
Automatic Transmission something....i dunno what the "F" stands for

No, they are made for cars that are going to be TOWING something.
You can get one at Uhaul for $46 bucks and about $45 for installation. Getting one put on the Grand Caravan along with the Tow hitch. Might be nice on the Box if you're really anal, but really not needed.
And ATF is Automatic Transmission Fluid, the red stuff.
JdMBboFSD 06-10-2004, 09:07 PM id rock it if i had the money...
elusivedragon 11-21-2005, 12:52 PM 50 bucks for a better cooler isnt bad to me, it may not be 100% needed BUT if it could even remotely prolong the life of the tranny it is worth it..considering the tranny is such a critical piece
I guess ive been one of those unlucky folk who have had bad experiances with trannies in some cars lol
Big_Bird 11-21-2005, 03:29 PM it is not a necesity, but it is worth the money
flxb05 11-21-2005, 09:43 PM The "F" stands for fluid. A tranny cooler cools the fluid that is pumped through it from the transmission. The fluid then flows back through the tranny and carries heat from the tranny to the cooler and repeats the process. Essentially a radiator for the tranny.
blimey 11-21-2005, 11:28 PM I am in the transmission rebuild biz.A tranny cooler is a good idea for ALL cars.Heat kills auto trannys. If you can put one on do it.Its just good insurance.
bB2NER 11-22-2005, 08:50 AM Yes, it definitely helps to prolong trans life. I would think a Hayden cooler would be way less than that one though.
x_rayted711 11-22-2005, 09:04 AM To the person who said it was for car BEING towed....UMMM think again! If you are towing the car, then the engine is not on, so the tranny pump is not moving. The torque converter is what turns the pump and the motor is what turns the converter. The tires don't turn the motor OR the pump. If you tow the car, it either needs to be on a dolly(drive wheels off the ground) or a manual tranny and in neutral because there are parts moving whether it is in neutral or not. One thing that DOESN'T move, though, is the pump.
And I agree...a tranny cooler will save the live of the internal parts of a tranny, especially if you live in hilly areas and/or desert areas. Tranny fluid breaks down like oil does and heat is BAD for the tranny fluid. Also, you will be able to add a couple extra quarts of trans fluid because of the increased volume (hoses, cooler, etc.).
IF you get a tranny cooler, be sure to add a themostatically controlled valve so you are not cooling fluid when it's already cold. My '77 Mercedes diesel had a tranny cooler and this was on a car built like a tank. If it's worth the effort on an a classic Mercedes, it's worth the effort on an xB. An auto tranny can have up to 3,000 components. That a lot of stuff that can go bad.

It just won't get as hot as it did prior to adding the cooler.
SmokingTires 11-23-2005, 04:26 AM I've always used tranny coolers there an excellent investment, if you put it infront of your radiator you will not have any cooling problems with the coolant or anything to that sort, I feel this is a great idea for these little cars with little motors and lots of strain on the tranny. The only thing is to make sure you install it really well and inspect it often to ensure your lines dont crack and you loose all your fluid ;-)
