View Full Version : Help Wiring a Turbo Timer
RS2_0 05-07-2006, 02:01 PM I was trying to put in a turbo timer last night and ran into some issues. I've got the wires ran from the timer.
RED -->12v
Yellow --> on
Blue --> acc
Ground -
White --> parking brake
The problem is that when you turn off the key the car is supposed to keep running, the accessories keep running along with A/C so I know the timer is keeping it in the "ON" position. I just need to know if our ignition is a 3 wire setup and I have to tap another wire simultaneously for the "ON" to keep the motor running.
Oh BTW, the Timer is a FET Turbo Timer from a Skyline R34 VspecII, just in case it has to be programmed or something (I don't think that the box is that complicated though)
05Toaster 05-07-2006, 02:57 PM just a note i would make it so that u need the E-Brake up when u turn the car off for it to keep running....good safety tip!
RHDVIPbB 05-07-2006, 04:34 PM Could be that it is from a Skyline that is causing you problems? It is hard to hardwire a turbo timer in. HKS usually makes a universal adaptor for almost any car. This will work with most turbo timers.

It is already setup for that. When you pull out the key the car is still on (not running), but when you let down the e-brake it kills the "accessories"
I don't think it being from a skyline is a problem. FET makes a 4 wire timer just like Blitz or anyone else. I just think that the car has some freaky wiring setup that I didn't figure out last night. All of the wires are ran correctly, I just need to know if I have to tap "two" wires for the "ON" position. One to keep the "accessories" running, and one to keep the motor running.
ProshopXB 05-07-2006, 05:32 PM Well when you install a remote start in an xB, you send 12v to the ign1, ign2, acc and starter wire. Ofcourse yours is already started so you wont need the starter wire, but you most likely need to hookup up to the other ignition wire to keep it running. My remotestart/alarm has a built in turbo timer that i use, but it keeps all the above wires mentioned energized after the key is turned off, except the starter wire.

Can you tell me where the IGN2 wire is located? Is if on the small harness that has two wires that is plugged into the back of the ignition assembly? I've alread taped the one on the main harness where the 12v and the "on" postions are at. Thanks.
ProshopXB 05-07-2006, 05:49 PM Take the steering column bezel off to get to all the heavy gauge wires for the ign. Here are the wire colors for you to double check you have them hooked up correctly.
12v- White/blue
Ign1- Black
Ign2- Black/Yellow
Acc- Blue/Red
RS2_0 05-07-2006, 06:47 PM So Ign1 and Ign2 can be wired at the same time to one lead from the turbo timer?
To Illustrate
Wire from Ign1 -->
---> both connected to "ON" wire on timer
Wire from Ign2 -->
Does that sound correct?

You can do it that way, im not sure if it would have any ill effects. The best thing to do would be to wire a relay for the second ignition and ign1 would get the "ON" wire. The "ON" wire would also activate the relay to turn on for the 2nd ign wire. Let me know if you need to know how to wire up the relay.
ProshopXB 05-07-2006, 07:37 PM You will want to use a relay, so if you dont have one then get one. Here is how you will wire it up, not sure if you have used a relay before but it has 5 poles on it. This application will only use 4 of them, each pole has a number on it.
Pole 30- Ign2
85- Ign1
86-parking brake
87- 12 v constant
The parking brake will activate the realy to turn on just like it does the turbo timer.
RHDVIPbB 05-07-2006, 08:53 PM I think RS2_0 is looking for someone with actual experience installing a turbo timer on a Scion, not just a bunch of dumb-____s who think they have something to add to the post. So please, save your self the embarrassment and dont post unless you actually have installed a turbo timer on a Scion!
Who are you and why should I care? Different companies that have turbo timers make them specifically for a car while others can be used with an adaptor. I have read the wiring diagram enough times to understand it. The easy and sure way to do it is to buy the adaptor. If you look at the adaptor, there are some wires that aren't connectoed to the timer and some that are spliced in. The adaptor is a 3-piece connector ensuring the right connections. I hardwired a timer in once and it just turned off the accessories after a certain time and the engine stopped when you turned off the key. The timer is supposed to keep the car running for the programmed time.
Just check the wiring diagram from the turbo timer and then read the wiring diagram for the Scions. If you don't have the timer diagram see if you can go to the companies site and get it from them.
spoonmectr 05-07-2006, 09:39 PM It doesnt matter who I am and I dont give a sh*t if you care or not! The fact is if you have to have an adaptor to do something, your just not a tuner, sorry man! Im sure if he had the diagram, there would of been no problem. Your really not even helping with the situation, so just stop posting! Please for christ's sake! Your idiosy is making my brain hurt!!

You don't have to be a "tuner" to know that there is a reason why they make these harnesses.

Here is what I was talking about where some wires are used and others are directed towards another adaptor plug.
spoonmectr 05-08-2006, 12:20 AM DUDE!, EVERYONE AND THEIR MAMA KNOWS WHAT A DAMN HARNESS IS!! That isnt helping anything. Seriously just stop posting, seriously!!
RS2_0 05-08-2006, 12:27 AM Doesn't the universal harness only work with the HKS turbo timer? And wouldn't I need a specific one for the FET brand and the SCION marque. It seems like an expensive/PIA soulution to a simple problem.
Oh BTW, Thanks ProshopXB for your input. I happen to have had a relay lying around and I will be using your info tommorrow when I work on the car. Thanks for your informed comments ProshopXB .
ProshopXB 05-08-2006, 01:06 AM No pob RS2_0, glad to help. Let me know how it turns out and if you ned any more help, im always here.

Works with Apexi and a few others. I just posted that in case you can't hardwire it in. I got an adaptor for about $15 since everywhere was out of stock when I put one on my Conquest TSi. Wired it in and it worked.
Fet does have a diagram that you can get. I called a friend in Cali and he may still have a copy laying around.
