Default Someone PLEASE HELP ME WITH MY TICKET!!

Let me start by saying that it has been 3 years since my last speeding ticket. Well I was comming home from my girls dorm in WV traveling along 81 and the speed changes from 65 to 70 along that stretch. Needless to say even with my brand new radar detector, I managed to get clocked fot 80 in a 65. I wanted to know if there are any scion dealership employees that could help me out with a piece of paper saying that my calibration was off on my speedo due to my 18 's that I have on the box. Even the officer told me to get something saying that I got it recalibrated so the judge can write it off as faulty equipment. Please if anyone out there can help please give me a call at 4433248837 anytime If this ticket goes through I will loose my insurance. Thanks in advance sorry so long.

your wheels will change the speedomter, but not that much. maybe 1 or 2 mph. i highly doubt a dealer would write you something like that. but there are dealers here on the forums that could reply to this to help ya out.

Here is what you need to do: Call your local dealer and ask if they do speedo calibration testing. They probably will say no. Ask what garages in your town does them. If your dealer is no help start calling garages. There should be at least one garage somewhere in the Baltimore area who does it. Don't tell them you "need" them to write something up, they will know why you need it just by asking, and pressuring them will just turn them off. You just need to find out who does it and then go get it done. The speedo will be off by some amount-- they all are, even new stock cars. If your speedo is off even a little bit in your favor, take the printout with you to your court date for your ticket. Dress appropriately! Judges get ticked off at people showing up in court in jeans and flip flops, and respect people who show respect for the court. On the small chance that the cop who wrote the ticket doesn't show up for court that day, it is very likely the judge will throw it out. Don't count on the cop not showing up--that is just a small chance. When your time does come up to be before the judge, he will ask you to state your version of what happened in the ticket. You need to calmly state your case to the judge, (please don't call the cop an idiot or anything like that-- it won't help you at all!), and tell them that you really thought you were going the speed limit, and went to the trouble to have your speedo checked and found out it was off. Be prepared for the judge to have your prior driving record in front of him and make comments on it-- if it is not pretty, a good answer is 'yes, I made mistakes in the past and that is why I am extra careful now to watch my speedo, and why I am sure I was not speeding'. What you are hoping is that the judge will knock a couple of mph off the ticket, which can make a big difference in the type of ticket and how much it will cost you.
I only know all this because I went through all this last year with my wife. The judge knocked 10 mph off the ticket, taking it from reckless driving to a mere speeding ticket. Major point difference!

Thanks for the replies, I am by all means no stranger to the court room. I know what needs to be said and definately know how to dress for the occasion lol. I also know that the speedo isnt that far off the equivalent of my 18's with low pro's is damn close to the stockers. But the cop kinda you know hinted to me to get it calibrated. guess im going to have it calibrated. Thanks again anyone know where I can get it done.

yea my friend locally, he recently put 17's on his mr2 turbo. stock is 14, it changed his speedo by 15 miles per hour according to a tire calculator. he is taking it to a local shop soon and getting a statement from them and taking it to court to fight it.

Good luck bro.

you will NEVER WIN going with speedo argument and no dealers will ever stick their necks out for you man. You may even get another ticket for tempory with speedometer.

My only suggestion and I have seen it worked in Montgomery County, MD before is to change the court date to a day where you don't think the cop will show up. For example, Friday later afternoon is a good day or before a holiday or whatever your best guess. I know this strategy had work before for a few of my friends so good luck to you man.

Well when I got pulled over in my work truck for doing 15 over I went and got a repair order for it saying that the gear in the speedo was broke and they said oh ok faulty equipment, didnt even look at the repair order, and that was that, the ticket was in WV also. I just need to find out a shop that will write me up a reciept saying that the speedo was off with some technical jargan so the judge says well it says it right here the speedo was off and they fixed it. PLEASE someone help me out.

I am not trying to sound like a ___**** but all that would have to be done is a piece of paper from the dealer, how is the judge going to argue with the dealer, does he have a ase cert for mechanics? No. Thats like me telling the officer how to use a radar gun. You cant argue with facts if the dealer says the speedo is off, then the speedo is off. Right? not being smart or anything but I do understand that a dealer prob wont help me out but someone who knows someone ,you know could help me out.

Only problem is that I found a website by yahoo that you punch in your factory size yopu know 185 60 15 and then your aftermarket wheel 215 35 18 and guess what its only a .5 mile an hour slower so im actually going 79.5 instead of 80, What im going to do is put in that I had 275 45 20's on there take a pic of my wheels and go to court and tell the judge that when I purchased the wheels from the factory that there was no info given to me by the dealer that stated the speedo would be off. Then tell him/her that after the ticket I got online and found this site punched in the #'s and found out indeed the wheels threw my mph off alot, then tell him/ her after finding this out I took the wheels off the car. and pu it back to stock.

Seriously, you got caught. Own up to it. The judge will see right through your plans. They hear every excuse in the book, every day.
