Just tried to buy a used 05' box.........what a joke!!
I just tried to buy an 05' xB at a local other then Scion dealer. The car had 27k miles and a lame set of 15" alloy wheels - nothing else. Nice shape, except for 3lbs of dog hair and dirt stuck on the headliner. Asking price was $15.5k, I figured I could talk them down a little since there is Scion dealer next door to them. Fat chance!! My best price was $14k! Damn these thing hold their value. The sales manager tried to convince me that I could not walk a 100 yds and by a new one for $14.5k. So, I am visiting the Scion dealer tomorrow to pick out my new ride --- at least I get to pick the color buying new. I am going to get the dark blue - sorry I don't know the proper name.
Soon to be, old guy with a Box!

Yea, so much for saving some change. I have had a bunch of experience buying cars and figured it would be easy to drive out for a fair price. Oh well, at least I get to pick the color! My other half did not like white anyway.
I found a dealer outside of Dallas who didn't know what he had on his used lot. It had been there since January and the dealership hadn't shown it to anyone, beacuse they had 350-400 used cars. I bought it for $12,500... they were asking $16,400!
It's got 30,000 miles. 2004. floor mats. tinted windows. scratch free. and the inside was cleaned 4x by Oreck for hypoallergenic reasons.
Now I can get everything else I want for it!

Crazy stuff. I've noticed this phenomenon in online sales of xBs, too.
But you'd expect the high resell value to be self-correcting once people realize they shouldn't be paying new-car prices for used cars - it's not like they're limited production or something (except the RS cars). The self-correction should especially be true due to the fixed pricing of the new cars; anyone can look up exactly what a new one would cost and do the comparison themselves.
It also happens in places like NADA, which shows my car as retailing today for $15775, (trade-in at $13525) while I paid $15200 for it a year ago.

Could $3 gas be causing this?
Are xAs and tCs doing the same thing, or only xBs? At least at NADA, xAs seem to be high as well.

Yep- buying used doesn't make sense atm. There are really very few available around here, and the high resale combined with the higher interest rates on used vehicles makes it a losing proposition- I checked it out before buying my new xB.
They seem to be moving rather briskly off the dealers' lots, with supply and demand pretty balanced. If you want a particular color/ transmission combo, or if you want much in the way of options, you may have to wait... they said 4-6 weeks, which could easily turn into 8-10 weeks. My dealer had no blue or red, lots of white and thundercloud, one shadow mica with automatic- lots darker in person than on the web, and automatic? blech. I settled for the base thundercloud w/ 5speed, and actually like it more as time goes by...
And I've been having fun hunting down the option parts, and installing them- tomorrow, it gets the rear sway bar and TRD exhaust...
Oh, yeh, it came with $120 worth of genuine Scion floormats, no way around that one....

It's kinda the same thing as when Harleys were in short supply. The used ones were selling at or near what the new ones were. Atleast Scions can't be marked up the way they were. But look at them now that supply has finally caught up with demand. LOL
wowo I got mine used with 32000 miles for like $13000, yeah I paid a litthe high but hey there was no down payment and I actually talked them down about $2000 dollars form what they were advertising. Apparently they had the car for a while on the lot that they just wanted to get rid of it so they literally gave it to me.

I was checking one out here in my town 05' and they want 16,500.00 for it no rims or nothing done...and I was like I can buy a new one w/ rims for 16,307.00 but I bought my RS 3.0 and I love it
I think you will love you box too.. congrats
Don't want to follow the trend but.. it happened to me too. I saw a charcoal colored one and went to see about it. It was an 05 with 12k on it. You could tell it had a bunch of crap done to it but it had all been put back to stock with the hub capped wheels. The interior was pretty thrashed and the center console wasn't bolted down at all.. I put my arm on it was falling all over the place. They wanted $15,900
Thanks for the welcome, Saddlesore...
Got my box at Burt, on S Broadway, because of a friend's experience awhile back buying a Subaru... all he got elsewhere was the runaround, at Burt they went straight to the numbers. My experience there was positive, although they're just about ready to screw it up with the financing. I've been driving it a month, and they still haven't gotten the paperwork thru to my credit union...They're nice enough, though, for bandits...

Congrats on you box
but if you paid 13K you actually paid more than what you should have. Not the other way around.[/quote]
I think its a better deal than me having to pay like $15.5K when they were advertising. Also I did get a 2 year warranty with the dealership including the drivetrain warranty from Scion still there, Full GAP insurance and guess what KBB (Kelly Blue Book) retails the car at $15.5K anyway with way more miles than I have on the car Right now.. So for $13K with all the insurance you can think of on the car, I think I got a good deal IMO.

Iw s going to trade in mine last month untill the gas prices shot through the roof i paid 11,300 for an 04 xb last rear and the trade in value of a 04 is 10,500 so i realy wouldn't have lost any because i owe less than that .but you should always get the pricing from the Kelly Blue Book first before looking .>
