i, for one, am curious to see what the consensus is driving. It's often a question I get asked "Are there more 5-speed tc's than Automatics?" since all I really see for sale around here are auto's...

I was curious too since I see about an even number of auto and 5-speeds. I always figured it was the people in my demographic driving the manual and the novelty crowd (old women etc.) driving the automatic. I figured I wouldn't get that demographic surveying people on scionlife though.

Being a new manual driver, I love it and don't plan on going back! It's interesting how close the polls are.

Seems like everyone around here drives an automatic.

*shrug* I drive a 5-speed.

Wow, 50-50 after my vote. I love my 5-speed and don't plan on getting an auto until my joints are so bad that I can't use the clutch anymore. I love the feel of the car flipping through gears. In autos, there is nothing to do. You get in, put the car in drive, and fall asleep. A manual transmission keeps you busy and active. It is more of a driving "experience" instead of a ho-hum commute.

Wow that many people drive auto's? I'm actually shocked. Everyone I know with a Scion (tC and xB) drive manuals.

But after my vote the manuals are ahead!

The manual tC is a cool car, but if i were to do major performance modding, I'd get something else like the 06 Si or RSX type-S...these two cars only come in Manual so you know what that means...major performance cars.

^^ no, sporty coupes are more like it. They arent sports cars, just marketed to people who can afford a coupe and want a sporty one.

manual all the way here. I have owned 9 cars in my life (three currently) , out of them all 3 have been autos. Out of the three I have now only one is an auto, that is the 4runner. I like the 4runner being auto because it is primarilly my fiances truck, and she likes autos and it is nice every now and then to cruise around without shifting. But given a choice I like manuals.

i have an auto. i kinda want a stick car now. but i still think i prefer the tc as an auto b/c the manual's gears are set too short and the rpm at highway speed are too high in my opinion. if the auto had 5 gears like the new civics then it would be cake...

There should be a male/female vote too. How many females drive manual - that would be interesting. How many males drive auto after that.

Seems like Standard is edging out in the lead. 33 > 28 So Far.

On an enthusiast forum the poll is going to be skewed by a large amount. I have only seen two M/T tCs around where I live (mine not included) and believe me, there are a LOT in SoCal.

That is deff true.

I hope to see more cars in the future with DSG and SMG transmissions. No clutch, manual shifting, faster than any human. The Euro 2006 VW R32 with the DSG is 3 tenths faster 0-60mph than the 6speed.

manual, because:
-it was like $900 cheaper
-i don't fall asleep while driving (i'm joking, but you know it's got substance)
-so none of my friends can take joyrides in my car
-it's fun
