Just did a tally on the second tank of gas for my new xA.

This time around came in approx. 312 miles, filled up approx. 9.5 gallons
and my milage was approx 32.7 MPG. This was mostly highway driving.

The first tank of gas (actually about 3/4 tank) I got about 24 MPG. This was a mix of highway/city driving (and racing around every chance I got ^_^).

Just more data for anyone who wants to know.

is yours auto? or manual? it sounds about right for highway only.

i got around 30 for mix city/highway on my 5spd

I have a 5 speed manual.
I know that the gas milage will go down the longer I have the car, its already going down hehe.
But still, compared to the 19 mpg I had to squeeze out of my truck and barely getting 300 miles to a tank....if I can get 300+ miles on a tank of gas, or get 25+ mpg I'm happy. The other plus is that it only costs 1/2 as much to fill up the xA as the truck I used to have. :D

The maximum mileage in one tank I have had so far is 365 miles. I'm not sure how much further I could have gone, but the gas warning was flashing for a while. I'd say 340/350 is probably my average mileage per tank.

about 29 - 30 MPG for me after add on a dual exhaust system

The salesman at my local Toyota-Scion dealer said the Scions (and the Corolla too) can get “up to” 47 mpg. This sounded so outrageous to me that I did not even ask him how this could be. He said 32/38 is the “average” and it’s possible to get much higher mpg.

Anyone else heard this? How do you get 47 out of a car that is rated 32/38? Drive 50 mph at 2500 rpm all the time? This sounds more like fantasy than reality. Even so, I look forward to getting an xA this summer and putting it to the gas test.

He is FULL OF ____!! if it got that good of gas mileage-trust me - Scion would be advertizing it! I average 34.5 MPG in my xB MT

I've got 10K miles on my Xa so far and I've noticed that the biggest factor in your mileage is your RPMs. These figures are for a manual. If I keep it under 3Krpm (still pushing it, but shifting a lot) I can get around 33mpg around town. If on the Highway, cruising consistantly @ around 3500 RPM (~72mph) I get about 35mpg. But if I hold it at 3Krpm (60mph) I can get almost 39mpg. If I take the gloves off and romp on it all the time in stop and go traffic (redline frequently, never use much more than 3rd gear ) I can drag it down to about 26mpg. If I do a cannonball run on the highway, (80-100MPH) I also drop to about 29mpg. I don't know if our ECU is the type that adjusts fuel mapping by driving habits, but if it is, this info should still be fairly correct since I drove several tanks full at those driving styles. I got better mileage as time went on too, btw.

We've had a manual xA for about 3000 miles. Around 33 city, and on the highway 35, but that's at 70 mph at 3500 rpms. It's hard to go 60-65, where the milage would probably be better. My mileage seems average for the group.

I just got back from my first spin in a Scion. Cool car! I drove a Phantom Grey xA with a manual trans. Quite zippy. The salesman and I were talking about mpg, and he recommended that I get the cold-air induction system ($390) because it would improve my mileage.

Is this true? I thought the cold-air system was for more horsepower. This salesman is the same one who told me that Scions can get “up to” 47 mpg, so I am not inclined to believe him. Any cold-air experts out there?

As for placing my order, I'm waiting to test drive an auto trans to compare it with the manual.

Both times it was full after 8 gallons. Driving was mostly to and from work with a joyride every other day...who can resist lol. Most of the speed limits are 50 on my way to work and there are 2 stop signs and 3 stop lights.

You might get "up to 47" MPG if you drove like 500 miles at 3000 RPM. no stops, all flat. But i highly dought it!

How an auto xB might get closer to 47 mpg than Silvertoy's 5spd getting almost 39 mpg @ 3000 rpm going only 60 mph. An auto trans has a higher final gear ratio than a 5spd, right? and I know my Auto w/ CAI and Sport Muffler goes 69 mph at 3000 rpms. 69 mph is 1.15 times faster than 60 mph, So wouldn't the car get 1.15 X the gas mileage, that's 44.85 MPG.

Or take in consideration Silvertoy gets 35 mpg at 3500 rpms, Could you say, since he gets 4 mpg less than at 3000 rpms, would an Auto get 4mpg more than a 5sp at 3000 rpms? That's 43 mpg.

I just called my brainiac stepfather to ask how bad I had butchered the concept of Algebra and he said "You are missing pertinent information, how hard each of your engines are working to maintain 3000 rpms." My mom said "Why did have to buy parts already, I thought it was new car."

Long Story Short: I'm pretty sure I could break well into the 40's on the highway, only pushing the gas pedal hard enough to accelerate slowly.

I've only put 410miles on the xa so far and have already filled up twice.huh i thought this was to be a 300miles per fill up car. i just to fill up our 02'jetta at every 295miles.i drive the same way i did with the jetta nothing has changed in my driving habits..........

For the 11.9 gallon tank, I get gas at the third tick. This gives me around 270miles...and a fill up of 9 gallons. I've pushed it to 310miles and the idiot light didn't even turn on (1.8 gallons left?).

But as you increase speed, you increase resistance. For each benefit, there's usually a price to pay...

Also it's an "average" If the average is 30 and some people complain that they are only getting 20 then some others must be getting 40 to maintain that average.

And Toyota and all carmakers MUST only use the EPA estimates. Anything else will get them in deep trouble. And the EPA estimates are only to be able to gauge one car vs another, not to give actual mileage estimates...

I only got 26MPG first time. But I hope that is more about my style of driving. Learning to srive a stick hopefully as I get better the MPG wiill go up.
