I finally got around to making some progress. It's not much to look at right now and the front mount (bolted to the plate) needs some adjustment and isn't 100% in line yet. There is no need for the edges on the piece that hangs down to be square as they do not touch anything.

This may be a bit confusing, but bear with me. I'll post progress on the prototype build in this thread.

For those wondering, the main plate is 6061 3/8" Aluminum. The front and rear mounts (rear not finished yet, as you can see) will be made from 6061 1/2" Aluminum. The bolts are 1/4 -20 thread Grade 8 x 1 1/2" deep, and will have lock washers and locktite on the final mount. The Blower to plate bolts will be 5/16 Grade 8 and get the same lockwasher loctite treatment.

Our final kit will look MUCH better than this. I am building the 'proof of concept' rig so to speak before we spend a bunch of money on powdercoating, milling, CNC time, etc. My new blower pulley is on the way as well.

Anyway, here are the pics, again, this is not a final product, it is only a prototype and prototypes do not have to be pretty :) Before you ask if it's strong enough with just those 3 bolts, I can set it on the ground as it is and stand on it, they will hold just fine, but the final design will be welded aluminum with inner triangle supports.

The red dots represent where holes will be drilled. The red area with black fill is going to be cut out as well, the square is where the outlet of the blower will be and the circle is the bypass valve.

BoogieQ, I am 100% behind what you are doing, but I feel it would be wrong for me to keep quiet here. You need to ditch those bolts. It doesn't matter if it is 7075, or 6061-T6 that aluminum stands a VERY GOOD chance of stripping out where you have those bolts in it. If you can't weld aluminum yourself, contract with someone who can. Using the dissimilar materials will definitely work against you. Steel and alumium expand and contract at different rates when heat is applied, and you will see plenty of it under the hood. Those bolts will hold strong, but the alumimum around them will fail.

And I know this is just a prototype, I am speaking in terms of final production. Also, the triangle gusset (support as you put it) is an excellent idea. Depending on what is in the way on the bottom side, you could get by with a single "beefy" (that is a technical term) support in the center, or run a two supports, one at each side. If you want a really trick piece you could always machine the whole thing from a solid block of aluminum. Then again, doing that would send the cost for this modification through the roof.

Anyway, keep up the good work. And I hope you take this post in the spirit it was intended. I can't wait to see the final product.

To address your concerns, yes, the final production kit would be all welded aluminum.

For my prototype, it only has to survive a few thousand miles in a month and it will be replaced with a production version. Either that, or I am highly considering having it welded after the bolt structure is set.

I basically HAVE to build it using bolts as I simply don't have a way to design it and have it welded. But once it's in finalized and aligned form, Yes, I was considering having it welded anyway.

I will be adding gusset's too. Again, much work to be done yet.. this was just a progress post :) I do thank you for your concerns though and they are duely noted :)

I have the resources to weld the aluminum and I am working on a more finished product as we speak.

My man here is just doing this to get a blower under the hood and to get this prototype functional.

I am also about to complete the first 5th injector controller for these kits. It takes quite a bit of time to solder this device together, but Once I get this thing down and get the bugs out of it I will pay for tooling and have the circuit boards made and then I would just have to wire up a few components and I'm done.

Progress is being made, look for pics soon I hope.

I posted these in another thread but I'm adding them to this one too. I have been working on a camshaft install on a grand prix the last 5 days so I haven't had much chance to gain ground. I will be hammering away at it again this weekend and HOPE... HOPE to have the blower under the hood this weekend. It probably won't be boosting but it will be testing the structure and ingegrity of the mount.

*** This is unfinished, you can tell the blower is sitting on the plate and not bolted to it.. these pics are for .. well.. just because, so there.

I remember BoogieQ from theGrand Prix forum I used to frequent. I can't wait to see this completed. Not that I'll ever have the money to buy one, but a girl can dream can't he, I mean she, I mean a guy.

Good stuff... but don't ya think a 62 is a little large for a 1.5L..?? What about a 45 with a clutch like off a benz... or an ogura SC14 from a previa with a clutch system.... "just asking for I have setup many sc systems for race and play haha"

We have covered this topic before.

The M62 is cheaper and easier to find and work with. Also the M62 puts out more air for the hp it takes to run it.

Boogie can go into it more, I don't know all the details about the difference in blowers.

yes it does put out more air, but the parasitic loss over say an mp45 is much greater. Also you can find sc14 blowers with clutch assembly for around $150.00 "the same sc manufacturer as the blitz kit" Just a thought, either way, good stuff!

The losses @6psi in terms of HP to spin it are around 3HP difference. That will easily be made up in a cooler intake charge from the blower without an IC. The 62 also has a 6-7% higher Volumetric Efficiency at any given RPM as the M45.

Yes the blower is large, but at the lower end of air delivery it really isn't going to take any more extra power to turn than the blitz sized M45 by making it up in efficiency and lower charge temps.

WHY did I choose this one? Moreso for headroom..... The M45 is a better low power match in the 130-150whp range.. but who wants that?? :P :P This should work AS well as a blitz/greedy kit but is more designed with high HP in mind to combat with the turbos while still giving good low end torque where this engine DESPERATELY needs help.

Ok, got a 5th injector controller done that I would consider acceptable to be in this kit as something to sell to someone.

I have designed the S/C pulley. I designed it after the custom built deep dish steelies on my xB.

Not to scale....

That's lookin sweet dude!

I'm so tempted to toss all my other obligations aside and work on my kit. I should have some cleared up soon so I can make some progress. I have all the parts now other than my injector controller and belt. Just need to finish bolting and pipe layouts.

What is the latest on this project? Is it still going forward, or has it fell by the wayside? Love the concept, just curious.

I've just been inundated with stuff to do around the house. Found out I'm going to be a daddy!!! So my priorities have slightly shifted (as some could guess) and I've been taking care of more things around the house. I haven't had time to sit and work on the car.

I know I have said it before but this weekend my wife has to work so I think I can get a good 12 hours in on it and that should push progress WAY ahead.

I have just about everything I need. I figure 20 hours more labor and it will run.. though, after I prove it, dyno it, track run it, it's probabbly coming off to save gas money LOL. Premium is just too much money.. sure it's only 25 cents more, but it adds up in the fact I drive everywhere for work.

Don't get me wrong.. this won't affect milage all that much, but simply having to pay more per gallon hurts.

Anyway.. I know I am still working on this and still intend to see it to market. There is no reason why we can't get a good 30-40WHP out of it and still keep the price under $1,000. It may not be the most pretty kit in the world.. but it won't look BAD and will be function over form.

I should have some more pics soon. I have not heard from Ctruss in a while so I do not know how things are going on his side. If I fall out of contact with him I'll see to it to have kits manufactured local to myself for those who would want one.

THanks! :) :)

I have ~6 hours set aside to work on it today. I want to get it at least mounted to the engine even if it's not functional so I can test the mount driving around for a while. I'm sure I'll have some pics today.
