How many lbs?

To me a wheel should weigh at most, one pound for every one inch of diameter plus a little more to compensate for width and offset. So a 17" wheel in my opinion should weigh at most, 17-19 pounds. So anything 20 pounds and over, I would consider heavy for a 17" wheel.

 

anything heavier than stock wheels. so anything heavier than 19lb is heavy

But Tirerack says the 215/45 R17s are 23 lbs. So 19 lbs is the actual weight?

 

I thought it was determined that the stock wheels were 22lbs after that whole bathroom scale thread.

 

what does that have to do with the wheel weight?

 

Sorry, my bad. Getting new tires soon (yay!) so I got them mixed up.

 

It was either the same or a different "bathroom scale" thread (>1?) where I recall seeing 19lbs., not 22.

 

I have a stock wheel without a tire mounted on it. I will weigh it on a postal scale when I get home today.

yes, but with no cap (which weighs almost nothing anyway)

 

That was my wonderful bathroom scale . I forget what the numbers were. Wasnt it something like 41 lbs total I had? I have the pics somewhere.

 

That's what I seem to recall, 41lbs with the tire, and TireRack (?) indicated 22lbs for the tire (iirc) thus the 19lb wheel weight. Sure would be nice to see a pic of the wheel only on a postage scale, if sscamatt would post it.

 

But back on topic lol anything more than 20 for a 17 is heavy. The tire weighs a bit more but u can't really do anything about that. Just make sure your rims are <20

 

well, im getting Enkei EVO6 18" rims, ive searched all over the net to check the weight and only 1 website (http://www.edgeracing.com) listed the weight which is 20.5 pounds.... is that heavy for an 18? and what is TOO HEAVY for an 18?

 

its all up to you. doesn't really matter unless u are track racing. thats not bad but there are better
