Default Thinking about getting an audio system

I'm thinking about getting an audio system this weekend but I don't know what good quality speakers to get. I'm just gonna replace the stock ones and later I will get two 10" JL W7. But for now I just wanna replace the sock ones. My question to you is what would be a good sounding speaker that i can fit from front to back? Strong sounding and clear. Any answeres?

couple of questions first. (1) are you going to be running an amp and/or an aftermarket headunit? (2) what does "can fit from front to back" mean? (3) do you have passengers in your back seat a lot? (4) whats your budget like for now?

the fronts are 6.5s and the back are 5.25s. if you dont have rear passengers often i'd ditch the rear speakers especially if you're going to be running jls in the back....the base would most likely block out the sound of those 5.25s and a lot of people feel that having rear speakers (rear fill) don't really add anything in terms of sound quality and may infact hinder it (think of a concert all the speakers are up front nothing coming from behind you). with $400 to spend i'd get a nice set of components up front and an amp to power them. with this setup keep your stock rear speakers and power them off your deck, fade your speakers all the way to the front and if you have rear passengers that complain they can't hear the music well enough just fade a little to the back. that would be plenty loud even if you do have rear speakers and with the jl's later you'll need an amp to power your speakers upfront anyways because they'll drown out anything running off the deck. i'd suggest a elemental designs package deal:

http://edesignaudio.com/packages

eDi 6500s Components + NINe.2 Package Deal = $395.25

you won't regret it

Anyone in WI so I can finally listen to some of the ED stuff? It seems to be solid equipment but I won't recommend what I haven't heard. Nice choice with the JL W7's but if you're looking to save a few bucks and want superior sound quality consider the W6v2's instead. An added bonus? They'll work in smaller enclosures than the W7. If you like the JL Audio stuff check out their XR series of speakers. The XR 650 CSI (component) and CXI (coaxial) systems are purdy dern nice. My favorite? Boston Acoustics baby. Mark

I was going to recommend taking a look at the JL component systems as well. They can be had pretty reasonably when ordered online. The XR 6.5" 2-way component set runs around $240 plus shipping. Unfortunately that doesn't leave you a whole lot of money to buy an amp to power them. It does leave almost enough to buy the XR series 5.25" coax speakers for the rear though.

That would eat up your entire current budget though, and you would still be running an unamplified system. It would probably sound decent if you had a good powerful aftermarket head unit, but not outstanding.

You could also always spring for the XR 6.5" 3-way component system. That runs about $100 more than the two way system, and it would require more custom work to get it installed than the 2-way. And again there really isn't enough left in the budget for an amp.

And I don't want this post to get too long, but if you are really budget conscious and still want JL you could always consider the VR series. The VR 6.5" component set sells for about $190. That might even leave you enough to buy an amp you can expand your system with later. Again, if you want to stay JL, the e4300 is a "budget" amp from JL that could easily fit your needs.

Anyway, you get the drift. If you like JL and want some very nice equipment spring for the XR. Just remember that you won't be able to do as much right away. You are building a better system over time. If you want to do more now, the VR series is a decent compromise.

Good luck, and let us know what you decide.

Please, if you do go w/ JL, do so authorized...or at least eBay/forum from another individual. Buying unathorized via the internet gets you no warranty and just helps out distributors that shouldn't have the product anyway.

Sorry for being preachy, but they don't authorize internet sales for a reason

Right smack dab in the center of the state. "Wisconsin. Come smell our dairy air!"

tC- I haven't heard the ZR stuff yet. Looks good on paper, but we all know how that can be. Anyone remember the old Alpine ZR stuff? They made some pretty decent components.
