Default Reusing the Pioneer stock HU???

Has anyone hooked up their XB Stock HU to another car??? I replaced my stock HU about 3 months ago, so I had the old one just lying around and my dad was thinking of putting it in his old Chevy...but I didn't know if that was possible considering the type of plug it takes...anyone know if I can purchase another plug that will fit the back of that stock HU, so that I can hook it up to another model vehicle???

Sure you can do it. You will need a male Toyota harness to plug in the back of your Scion radio and then you will need a female Chevy harness to plug on the factory harness in his Chevy. Usually there is no problems of wiring one Makes radio to another make. The problem you run into is fitting and mounting of the radio in the dash. Since that radio doesn't belong in that radio you will proably have to costomize some brackets to hold the radio in, if it will rvrn fit in and it may not look that good. What year is your Dad's Chevy and what model? You will also need a Chevy antenna adapter, so the antenna will fit in the new radio.

What no hack job??? Proshop is right on. BTW will the deck fit in a Chevy? Scion radios are double DIN, meaning they're 7" x 4" where as most Chevys (Chevies?) are DIN and 1/2 meaning they're 7" x 3". Mark

Yes you would be correct, most Chevys' from 1988 to 2002 are din and 1/2, starting in 2000 the Cavaliers and Sunfire's went to Double- Dins and the rest of Chevy joined in 2003. This is why i want to know what make Chevy and what year.

Its a Monte Carlo, and I think its either a 1999, or 2000...we took the old unit out and its a double din...the pioneer is just a fuzz bigger, but there is room in there for some modification...my dad is a master welder/fabricator so he said he feels pretty good about fixing up a bracket so it will fit...I'm just not sure where I can get these plugs...I've been lookin at ebay, u guys got any other suggestions where I could get one???

Google Metra 71-1761 for the toyota harness
Metra 70-1858 for the chevy harness
Metra 40GM10 for the antenna adapter
That is how i got the pics and tons of places to choose from for these items, just make sure the shipping isn't outragous.

Donovan we just need to talk Bill into renting one from Toyota for a day and we can check it out to see if it's possible.
Looks like it would fit and look pretty sweet.

Do you have a stock radio or an aftermarket? If its an aftermarket radio, you forgot to hook the blue wire( power antenna wire) of the radio up to the blue wire on the female Toyota harness up. The B's have an amplified antenna and if not hooked up then radio reception stinks. I will not mention anything about it if it is still the stock stereo, until i hear back from you.

More than likely yes, but always double check to make sure. Somtimes the Toyota Female harness has a blue(power antenna) and a blue with white( amp turn on). Just double check to make sure they are hooked up.

Anything and everything is possible in electronics, ive seen it all . Try un hooking the blue wire from the radio that goes to the blue wire on the harness. Then tap the blue wire on the harness to the blue with white from the radio. Then check you fm. Welcome to the wonderful world of trouble shooting, it isnt fun at all. You can pm me if you would like instead of us blowing this thread up.
