for a given small engine, i don't expect the AC will be a super cooler. i am planning to get xA in 3 months. i want to know what's the negative too. i heard that the MT is not very good for high way driving, can someone tell me the rpm at 65, 75 and 85?

Negatives...a little loud at fast speeds. It has to do with the aerodynamics... Also, the AC isn't the best. I usually roll down the windows when I get in the car and put the fan on the first notch. As I drive, the hot air is expelled. I roll up the windows and turn the AC on. There is also rattle...especially from the silver piece on the door. It's just a little loose...nothing that can't be fixed.

65? 75? 85? those aren't speed limits! lol. In 5th gear, 60mph is 3000rpm, 70 is 3500 rpm, and 80 is 4000rpm (what I'm usually at on the highway). Just calculate mph * 0.02 to get the rpm... Top rpm is 6500rpm...Top speed is theoretically 130mph...

I had the same reservations, but I put down a deposit a little over a week ago. The biggest thing that bothers me now is the WAIT! For the AC, it is only a few cars that are affected. If you do notice that the AC is not cold, the dealer will fix it for free, as there is a TSB (Toyota Service Bulletin) on it. It's really just a simple fix too. On the MT, the RPM's are bit high, yes, but liveable. And it unbelievably gets good mileage at thos high RPM's. . . if it had another gear, the gas mileage would be even better, and it's already nearly 40MPG. I actually won't mind the higher RPM either, because that means the engine will be closer to it's powerband, meaning less shifting, although don't expect to go shift free, as it is only 105 hp. But if you are considering an xA, keep in mind that other cars in this class don't exactly have stellar acceleration either, so in most cases the xA will be better, if not equal (the xA's 0-60 beats just about every car in this class). The only thing I will be concerned about is the engine noise at highway speeds. From my test drive, it wasn't a problem, but I will let you know more when my xA arrives. However I strongly recommend that you go test drive one and compare it to the competition.
But you know, the best thing about this car is the exclusivity, and how much attention it gets(good attention!). You know what, I change my mind. Don't buy it. It's crap hahahaha

even after the TSB, the AC is still not cold enough...

I guess I'll find out when mine arrives. . . I say take the advice of others over mine since it hasn't arrived. But the xA I test drove at the dealer (post TSB) had a plenty powerful AC. But again. . . best idea go find one and test it out and see for yourself.

Well.. one thing that i hate on my xA are the SILVER PLASTIC THINGS on the side of the doors... just like what MIKOCHU said, they seem to be loose and when I crank up the BASS, they just rattle... :x :x :x
Also, I like to Push my seat way back and what happens is the leg room at the back becomes tight for passengers.
A/C is CRAP... :x

Other than that? I love it. :P

I just hate that I got an automatic instead of a manual verison, :screams at sister for not knowing how to drive stick shift:. Other then that, I love the car for the price we Paid for it and I didn't expect to any luxury car.

one thing to remember is get the 5spd.
depends on your personal needs, my gf and i have both xA and xB..

xB got lot more room than the A...but A feels little faster somehow...maybe the weight.

I have an auto and love it. Watching the maint. problem board makes me think it was the right decision. Many xA and XBs have shifter/clutch/trans problems. They sound like simple adjustment issues but still a pain. Mine has 12,000 hard miles and absolutly no problems.

Here's the trick to the AC.... turn it on for a short time then put the vents on "recirculate" so you are cooling cooler air from the interior instead of the hot air from outside. My xA is black and it's a sunny 95 deg today and it can keep up just fine.

If you need to be talked into the xA, it's not for you. Drive one and decide.

I would say the same thing ...also wrapping the ac hose will make it blow colder too....personally I love my xA from the moment I saw it. I driven a xA for 20k miles and all those complaints are valid, if you wanna complain about it. Honesty is important yet I'M A VERY SATISFIED OWNER. I got what I paid for...a very inexpensive, 13K car.

If you want nicer, quieter, smoother.more power..... BUY A MORE EXPENSIVE CAR.......THE xA,,,, SIMPLY ISN'T FOR EVERYBODY!

I spend 95% of my time in a car because of my job..... The AC is good especially considering how small the engine is.... Sometimes when it's REALLY hot, I blast my AC to the 3rd power and it cools me instantly.... And even if I do that, the MPG and it's performance is still excellent.... It would also help to keep the inside cool by tinting your windows.... I'm not complaining and no one else have either who have ridden on my car in hot days....
