Hey guys im wondering how 18s will affect the performance of the car. Anyone have experience with both 17 and 18 inch wheels on cars in this hp range. Im just wondering how much acceleration will suffer to get that extra inch of wheel rolling. Also curious to see what fits in the wheel well once the car is lowered without scraping.

later,
Timbo

from what i've heard, 18s are fine, its the 19s that rub. Not positive but I think 8" was as wide as youd be able to go(?)

no matter what kind of car it is, wheels are always going to play a factor in acceleration. in most cases, larger wheels equals heavier wheels which means more rotational mass. there is a reason why draglites are small and lightweight. with the power the tC is claimed to have, i don't think you'll see a noticeable difference on a day to day basis. you may see one at the track however it won't be a huge difference.

Don't worry dude, soon the mods will come and the 18s, 19s. And as soon as everyone is settled in with their mods. The dynos will happen, just like it did for the xB and xA. Than the real debating will happen, its gonna be wicked.

And my post about wheel weight almost verbatim. Oh well, some people don't have their own brain to think with...

The factory Enkei 18's are supposed to way the same as the stock 17's

do you think the 18s will rub lowered?

i didn't intentionally copy a username. the original tc4me informed me that i was in the wrong and i had the admin change my name. thanks for the warm welcome though.

where is your post about wheel weights? i may be a newbie on this site but im not new to cars. if you'd like, i'll dig up an old post from a few years ago on www.focaljet.com where this same question was asked and i gave the same answer. get your head out of your ___ and realize that sometimes there is only one answer to a problem. physics is physics and you are bound to have someone come up with the same results. big wheels = slower acceleration. if anyone said otherwise, they'd be a moron.

Welcome to Scion Life.

Everybody needs to cool off. It was just a mix up, now it has been fixed. No big deal.

The factory Enkei 18's are supposed to weigh the same as the stock 17's

fixed the way = weigh :D

even if does weigh the same(wheels), its the entire wheel/tire combo that should be weighed, not just the wheels itself. the 18"wheels with tires might weigh as much as the 17"wheels with tires. it really depends on the application.

agreed, heavier wheels contribute to slower acceleration. its simple physics(i so happen to love math and science) really. you are probably wondering why. its not how much HP you have at the flywheel, its how much HP you get transfered to the ground. larger and/or heavier wheels contribute to HP loss through drivetrain.

take the Tc for example. it makes 160hp at the flywheel. correct? it havent been dynoed yet. so lets just say it measures like 145hp at the wheels for now(with stock wheels) and you decide to get larger heavier wheels. and now your car is maybe dynoed at 140hp, but engine itself still has 160hp, that extra 5hp is lost through drivetrain(more for RWD and much more for AWD) from the addition to the much larger heavier wheels. having a big brake upgrade or larger brakes from stock in general will decrease hp. just like larger wheels.

*please note: these are not actual hp figures for the Tc. just used as an example.

hmm... probably too much info... lol
