Smoked the factory wire harness that feeds the Stereo.
Somehow someway, i smoked the factory wire harness that feeds the headunit. I can pull new 12V, accessory, ground and speaker wires without much of a problem. My question is the stereo wiring fused all together? Can I just pull a fuse and just kill the power to those wires? Want to pull the fuse before I start the car again, so I am asking before I go pull the fuses one by one. Again, what a mess. Was installing a new headunit using a aftermarket wiring harness that connects to the factory harness and something went really bad. So asking the good folks here if they can point me in the right direction.
A recap, want to kill the power to the existing 12v and accessory wires that feed stereo headunit. Dont want them to hit something while driving and short something else out.
Thanks, again
Scott

your owners manuel will tell you what fuses go to what. there are a few lines that are hot behind the radio the constant power. switched power, dimmer, parkings lights, ect.
here is the wireing for just the radio there can be more hot lines back there and other very inportant wires that u dont want to short out . i say trace all wires after pulling fuses or best unhook your battery and make sue you dont have any shorts if you do not have a DMM (digital multi meter) or know how to use one take your car to some one who does
Radio 12v

Well I was able to rewire the HU, but now I am interested in replacing the factory harness. Would this be a dealer item? Let me rephase that, I am looking to cut the damaged harness wire out and replace/splice in a factory replacement.
Any suggestions as to where to get a replacement harness at would be great.
Thanks again

Factory harnesses are all or nothing- if they're even available.
An electrical specialty shop or the dealership can repair the existing harness, but the color code may have to change on some wires... just the way it is.
Or you might find what you want at a junkyard...

Ok, well I was able to remove the dash thanks to the info on this site and cut out most of the burnt wires. But I have one last problem that someone on here may be able to help me out with.
The clock is not getting power when the car is off. If someone has access to an shop manual (if its even in there) I would like to know which one of the pins going into the plug that connects the speedo, guage, clock cluster powers the clock when off. Ill just tap into that and run to a permanant power line.
Thanks again, and I really wish that I had removed the top of the dash when installing the HU because man it makes it eaiser to run the wires. And no hanging wires to tie wrap under the dash.
Thanks again and if someone can find that info on the guage cluster it would be greatly appreciated.
