For those that are quick to dis the Nintendo Wii... it just won best of show at E3. It also won best hardware and Excite Truck won best racing game.

Time and time again, Nintendo gets it right. They make a game fun first, then they worry about how pretty it is. Form follows function.

If you really want to get technical about this, NONE of these games would exist without iD creating Doom my friend. And just because GoldenEye influenced Halo, doesn't make it superior.

And John Carmack wouldn't have created Doom/Wolfenstein/Quake without John Atanasoff creating the computer and on it goes. (I actually have a lot of respect for Carmack. I met the guy at QuakeCon2005. I just felt like playing the Devil's Advocate.)

Yes its true, I just hate the halo lovers mentality. There are a lot of people at school that really think Halo is the only good game ever.

None of the games we have today could have just come about in and of itself. For the more popular genres an idea can be derived from past games, platforms, or even "discarded" concepts (G4 show Icons about Donkey Kong) It's very rare today to come up with a game that can generate revenue and still be unique to the point where you can say "I have never played that before" In my own experience, the closest recent game I played that had those traits was Katamari Damci, and I'm convinced that that game was designed with the help of copious amounts of marijuana and LSD (the drug not the differential). So, I think, we should just accept that nearly every game today will have a precursor, and enjoy the wonders that technology can provide us in terms of gaming. But if it's a straight near carbon copy of a game, that's just whack and don't buy that $h!t.

I'll have to agree with you about Katamari Damacy. I have both Katamari games and theres nothing out there like it. The soundtrack is funny and whacky at sometimes, and the gameplay is addicting especially when your making the Moon.

and i think we are getting carried away with saying so and so wouldnt be here if it werent for its predecessor. which is true, but what game wouldnt be here if it werent for the games of the past introducing a new genre?

thats why Nintendo has their Blue Ocean strategy. they dont want to be with the competition, they want to be distant and show others(3rd party developers) there is opportunity for them to in the blue ocean if they decide to come join. and playing is believing :P
