Thank you sirs...I've been meaning to post a little mention in the sponsored sales forum about the spacers for a week now, but I've just been way too busy trying to take care of a lot of other things around here. I'm only now able to slowly catch up on scionlife! Anyway, also, if anyone happened to email me at the van@onetongarage.com email address within the past week but hasn't received a reply yet, please try again. Our cable modem service died, and then when it came back up, the email server was acting up... so I might hae lost some emails in there. Anyway, I hope all you guys who bought-and will buy-the spacers make sure to take pics of your cars before and after!

I FINALLY bought a set from Van.

I haven't had time to mount them due to rain and lack of strength in my right hand.

These are just as good as the prototypes I saw over a year ago, if not better. I know some peeps that have been running them ever since Van relased them and have had not troubles w/ them.

The only thing I've been thinking about, can I run these AND camber plates? If not, anyone know where I can find some studs at least 25 mm longer?

quick question. are these spacers hubcentric like the HR's?

chino5149
12-30-2004, 02:31 PM
They're not wheel spacers, they're hub spacers....... Much safer.

Van sells hub shim spacers (much safer) and wheel spacers. His wheel spacers are not hubcentric...

my bad. i see now. still, i feel as long as the spacers are hubcentric they are safe. it's when they are not that you run into problems. the price is not bad at all. i'm still a bit partial to the HR spacers but we'll see. money talks

your cars look great though. i did not know about the 3 millimeter difference. crazy. has anyone found a remedy for this?

oh and before i forget. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I just installed mine in the morning on a socal rainy new years eve. I have 18X7.5 wheels with 215/35/18 tires with 45mm offset. Used rear spacer shim, and 5mm blue in the front, with tein s tech springs. I did it all this morning, and it looks sick. I'll post picks soon.

Yup, finally got mine installed w/ the help of Ken (NCP31) of Michael's Mufflers.

Man, I should have mounted these over a year ago when they were first available!

Nice job VAN!

The pictured vehicle in the instructions is our very own "ScionJohn" We always talk to other people about our spacers whenever we can. :D

This may sound dumb, but do you need Shims and Spacers?

For me personally, No. But I did get them and installed them. For some it brings the rear wheels out a bit more flush for appearance reasons. Unless of course you have staggered fitment wheels.

But as far as handling and track stuff, I'm still a firm believer in having a wider track up front and would prolly not run these for those reasons.

I have to admit though, it does make my xB look a bit better, though it may not be noticeable to some.

I am looking to just push out the rear wheels to make it flush, are shims for the rear and spacers for the front?? Or do you need both to push out the rear wheels?

I dont think I was clear in my first question

You can run the rear spacer shims to add 10mm to the rear. If you need more than that you could add a spacer also. The shims go behind the whole rear hub assembly, pushing it all outward. The spacers go over the lugs, pushing just the wheel out. Spacers can be used both front and rear if you need them

Ok, this may be a stupid question so forgive my ignorance. When you install these shims do the rear wheels need to be balanced?

A nice subtle mod to flush out the rear tires w/o having to buy wheels spacers and extended lug nuts. And easier to install!

Nope, it's not needed. Just make sure everything is tightened to spec. You can also use the "yeah, it's tight" method.

I don't even think the dealership does rear alignments on the xA/xB/Echo...

Van is AWESOME!!! I ordered my set on New Year's Eve, and they arrived on Monday the 3rd. I had some issues with the first set that was shipped out to me. It seems that the machinist made a slight error, and the holes did not line up correctly. I contacted Van and he overnighted a new set to me the next day. It is great that there still are people who believe in customer service and stand behind their products!

Install was easy. It took under an hour by myself with hand tools.

Paying for an alignment is cheaper than paying for a new set of tires with improper wear.

Mang, I'm glad someone FINALLY agrees with me on this.

Anytime I do suspension mods or tire/wheels changes, I get an alignment.

I think what Tomango meant is that the dealer may have done a front alignment only, if his theory that they don't do rear wheels on xB's stands true, and just charged you for four, since that's what you asked for :)

Yea, I didn't get mine done and, 7K miles after lowering, my tires are (were, I took them off for winter) about beat. But, they weren't the tires I really wanted anyway ;-).

Anyway, "shims are cool" ;-)

WE STILL NEED CAMBER~~~~!!!!

u only need camber when ur wheels are TOO WIDE/LOW OFFSET to fit in the car.

until we see more cars with that issue, camber isn't somehting we need.

Really!?! I dialed in 2 degrees of negative camber on my front end, and the handling and steering response improved. I also adjusted the toe-in accordingly also. I don't have TOO WIDE/LOW OFFSET wheels either, but then again, I'm not an expert.

I guess its all my imagination.

Van still has more rear wheels spacer for those who need them. Ask him to send you a pics of his Q45T. 19x10s in the rear!

You can buy those camber bolts for up to 1.25 degree of camber in the front. I'm looking at Camber plates up front and camber plates in the rear. Tho I may not keep the plates i the rear, guess I'll have to see how it affects my times.

I have the Cusco front camber plates. I'm at 2 degress which on my xB is 5 notches. I still have 5 more notches to go. The steering and handling has improved dramatically. HTH.

The shims are a great mod IMO. The xA RS especially "needs" them to bring the tires out. Van's stuff is top quality and very well priced.

Here's some pics: First one is with the shims and the second one is with shims and 5mm spacers installed.

I'd say very safe. No problems with mine at all. I've driven them on fast corners, highway and bumpy back roads.
