View Full Version : Thinking of Taking Off Window Tape NCBOX 06-03-2006, 09:25 PM I was just wondering if anyone has a picture of a black cherry without the black window tape on. Thx  Jugglah 06-04-2006, 01:37 PM Check my profile... kustom_play 06-04-2006, 11:12 PM what is the window tape? is this the black stuff on the pillars? Max 06-04-2006, 11:17 PM what is the window tape? is this the black stuff on the pillars? Yes. Your car is painted underneath that tape. Jugglah 06-05-2006, 12:30 AM I think it makes the cars look better... more color but the one argument against it is that you lose the look of having one sort of long rectangular window across the side of the car... Short_Bus 06-05-2006, 01:05 AM i was thinking of doing it myself on my BOP Jugglah 06-05-2006, 01:11 AM Go for it... just not in the winter when I did it... MUCH MUCH MUCH faster in the summer... all you need is a hair dryer, goo gone and some decent finger nails. Pull off the rubber stripping around the windows and there are 6 strips total... if I remember correctly. kustom_play 06-05-2006, 01:35 AM does anybody have a nice pic of one without the tape one it? bBlover 06-05-2006, 03:47 AM Do it!! Do it now!! :P I plan on doing it when it comes time to get my xB. NCBOX 06-05-2006, 04:32 PM Cool I think ill do it just going to wait for a hot day. THX exige 06-05-2006, 04:35 PM can this be done on tC's? IH8ONYU 06-05-2006, 05:36 PM get a heat gun or hair dryer, makes it go much faster... any car with tape on the window pillars can have the tape removed, the pillars are painted and cleared under the tape. be sure to have some bug & tar remover on hand as well for the glue. good luch, took me a hell of a long time to take mine off all 4 doors. kustom_play 06-05-2006, 09:18 PM somebody post up a pic i want to see how this looks kzhorse 06-05-2006, 09:34 PM Here is mine took about 20 minutes on a 90 deg. day. http://www.scionlife.com/gallery/personal/15359_19.jpg Scott richdog 06-06-2006, 08:59 PM i was thinking of doing it myself on my BOP Dude if you need help we can do that............I did mine......it took a couple of hours in 65 degree weather with a heat gun........with 2 people that know what they are doing it should take about an hour.......Here's a picture of my box peeled http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h142/richdogxb/salsa06022.jpg kustom_play 06-06-2006, 09:22 PM kinda cool i might have to do this next week Jugglah 06-06-2006, 09:39 PM i was thinking of doing it myself on my BOP Dude if you need help we can do that............I did mine......it took a couple of hours in 65 degree weather with a heat gun........with 2 people that know what they are doing it should take about an hour.......Here's a picture of my box peeled http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h142/richdogxb/salsa06022.jpg Yeah and how long did mine take? In fairness it was almost below freezing.... Bonger6693 06-08-2006, 09:01 PM I did this last night and today, still got 1 window to go but anyone else have problems in the pillars at the bottom when you rip it up? I have a little line of black tape still I have tried tweezers which im still gonna keep trying to pull it out but anyone know of a better way to get rid of it? Also it looks 10x better with the ___ tape off! :) Thanks for post! NCBOX 06-08-2006, 09:46 PM Going to do it this weekend, well if it ever stops raining. fastxbman 06-08-2006, 09:48 PM I took the door sill trim off too. That made it easier for me it only took me about 35 mins on a 80 degree day and I didnt even need any goop remover. scyon 06-09-2006, 12:39 AM Thats sweet I'm def. going to do mine.. It looks alot better w/it off..:D sciondrgn 06-11-2006, 03:10 AM Heres mine done.. Took a couple hours http://www.images.setuners.com/scion5.JPG richdog 06-11-2006, 03:27 PM nice box and I'm glad someone actually painted the paintable altezza style tail lights RaginCajun 06-11-2006, 05:58 PM I kept looking at the pics trying to find out exactly what it was you guys were taking off, then I realized it. Well 1 hour later heres my RS3 untaped. I like it. Before...... http://www.hunt101.com/img/398722.JPG After....... http://www.hunt101.com/img/413077.JPG sciondrgn 06-11-2006, 06:01 PM Lookin Good Ragin!!! NCBOX 06-11-2006, 06:52 PM Both look good SirScion 06-11-2006, 07:26 PM my recomendation: take a razor, put it at a 45 degree angle, and run it across the top of the door, removing a small section of the vinyl, then run the razor lightly across the bottom of the pillars where the pillar meets the door, that way you dont have to pull the moulding out to remove that, you can just remove it like a sticker :D. And you dont have to pull the vinyl over the edge of the door (hard to do) ALSO....as you are pulling it, move your hands slowly down the tape as you pull it off, if you dont, the tape breaks, and that sucks..... I only removed it from the front two doors, it makes it look like a two door IMO... http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y283/SirScion/Sam008.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y283/SirScion/Sam006.jpg yellowxboy 06-11-2006, 07:38 PM does anybody have before and after pics? the tcs have it too and i'm thinking about taking it off too but i have the cf pillar in the way now :X RaginCajun 06-11-2006, 08:10 PM does anybody have before and after pics? the tcs have it too and i'm thinking about taking it off too but i have the cf pillar in the way now :X Check my pics on page 1 for before and after. honey0bucket 06-12-2006, 01:48 AM ok im too lazy to go outside and check...but i look out the window and..doesnt my 06 BSP come w/o the black vynal...or am i just crazy? mad-sciontist 06-12-2006, 01:50 AM Ragin do you have a pic from a different angle??? Not one thats so low. SirScion 06-12-2006, 01:51 AM no, BSP comes without vinyl...lucky people... honey0bucket 06-12-2006, 01:51 AM ohhhh ok...i thought i was being crazy or something lol mad-sciontist 06-12-2006, 01:52 AM And also, does anyone think that If I did it then added the carbon fiber pillars from Scion, would that look good? honey0bucket 06-12-2006, 01:54 AM i think cf would look neat on the green. sciondrgn 06-12-2006, 02:02 AM Yeah go for it.. The CF would look good on there in my opionon. RaginCajun 06-12-2006, 02:46 AM Ragin do you have a pic from a different angle??? Not one thats so low. Diferent angle but not as low.. http://www.hunt101.com/img/413287.JPG mad-sciontist 06-12-2006, 04:33 AM Thank ya! I likes it!!! bB2NER 06-12-2006, 08:06 AM I've seen some with the CF pillars and it looks like they only removed the top portions of the tape. I wouldn't add the CF Rage'N. Here is a BCP without the black crap http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v403/020263/loweredandwheelspainted003.jpg SirScion 06-12-2006, 07:47 PM I was just gonna ask why no one took the little strip off the back door...I thought maybe it wasnt painted underneath...THAT LOOKS NICE. OH OH! How did you take it off around the mirror? :O teach me your wise ways master! bB2NER 06-12-2006, 08:06 PM That part was black plastic that I had to paint to match. SirScion 06-12-2006, 08:45 PM darn  thanks though Huberc04 06-12-2006, 08:47 PM All I can say is be careful.....I did mine this weekend...There are two spots; 1 as big as a silver dollar and the other about penny size....they look like the factory just stopped wet sanding or didn't polish/wax all the way.....So just be careful! Overall...VERY VERY VERY SIMPLE!! PM if you need anything! buzzwyzr 06-12-2006, 09:15 PM http://www.regionofdoomforum.com/Upload/userfiles/buzzwyzr/126316730501_3300.jpg http://www.regionofdoomforum.com/Upload/userfiles/buzzwyzr/126316791173_3300.jpg http://www.regionofdoomforum.com/Upload/userfiles/buzzwyzr/126316842885_3300.jpg Since I haven't seen any BOP's in this thread, I thought I'd throw mine in here. As the last few posts above have stated, it's very easy! If the car's been in the sun and is warm, it's even easier. Or you could just use a heat gun. bB2NER 06-12-2006, 09:39 PM All I can say is be careful.....I did mine this weekend...There are two spots; 1 as big as a silver dollar and the other about penny size....they look like the factory just stopped wet sanding or didn't polish/wax all the way.....So just be careful! Overall...VERY VERY VERY SIMPLE!! PM if you need anything!Mine had those kinda spots too. The factory didn't worry about them because of the black crap. I just hit them with a little 2000 grit and polished them to match. The hardest part is when you get to the bottom portion. yellowxboy 06-12-2006, 10:09 PM anybody have pics of it with a FM scion? haha i doubt you'll really notice a difference though. i wanna do it but i have the CF pillars in the way  hxckid88 06-16-2006, 01:58 AM Okay, so I took the tape/vinyl off the driver window, and it looks alot better, even my mom was like ooooh I like it...haha. But I got a little bit of tape at the bottom that I cant seem to get out, even with tweezers. Any ideas? Big_Kill 06-16-2006, 02:35 AM My only concern with removing the tape on a black (which doesn't come with tape?) or a blue, or any dark color is finger and hand smears from people closing the door. I keep my black '95 Impala SS pretty spotless and taught my family and close friends to try to use the black rubber strip that runs along the bottom of the window where it meets the pillar to close the door. As soon as someone "un-initiated" goes for a ride and closes the door, there are always hand prints up and down the pillar that are VERY noticable against the rest of thedeep, black shine of the rest of the car. So far, with the xB, I haven't noticed any greasy hand smears on the tape on the pillars from any passengers closing the door. I like the look of just the door pillars exposed rather than the whole door frame, but maybe the tape is cleaner. Pretty anal, huh? SirScion 06-16-2006, 02:44 AM but the handprints are easyer to wipe off the paint than they are to wipe off the tape, if they are on the tape too long, they stain it (like mine) Big_Kill 06-16-2006, 02:53 AM but the handprints are easyer to wipe off the paint than they are to wipe off the tape, if they are on the tape too long, they stain it (like mine) Ahhhh... that's what I was wondering, 'cause so far I haven't seen any prints on the tape. If the tape picks up the prints as well (and if they are more prone to linger) it'd definitely be easier to wipe 'em off the paint. It's gonna be like 88 degrees or something here in Pittsburgh over the weekend - might be a good time to try some removal. I just don't want to uncover any scratches or anything. :( hxckid88 06-16-2006, 03:24 AM Wouldn't it be awesome if the tape was functional and it was there so that finger prints wiped off easier when closing the door? Sorry to repeat my question, but in case anyone missed it and knows the answer, I'm trying to get the bottom piece of tape (closest to the handle) to come out of the little crack. It won't come out (and my finger hurt), any suggestions? SirScion 06-16-2006, 03:34 AM get a butter knife or Plastic putty knife, pull the moulding back, and tuck the vinyl under the moulding :D thats what I did, and no problems yet hxckid88 06-16-2006, 03:54 AM Hmmm, butterknife might work. I was going to use a razor to cut it. But I was right about to cut and I noticed how the holder was too thick and was about to dig into the paint. So I figured not. I'll just use the tweezers to kind of stuff it int there or pull it out. I just hate moving things around, next thing you know they're loose or falling off. SirScion 06-16-2006, 04:23 PM just pull it back a couple MM, It didnt hurt anything when I did it. micaxB 06-16-2006, 06:22 PM anyone have a picture of a shadow mica xB with the tape off? thanks. arizonaturbo 06-16-2006, 11:56 PM somebody post up a pic i want to see how this looks I took the tape off of my RS3, but now I have the carbon fiber appliques. You can still see some of the green exposed. http://www.scionetics.com/scions/arizonaturbocar1/arizonaturbocar1_pic2.jpg RaginCajun 06-17-2006, 12:20 AM Nice. I thought about the CF pillars but thought it would throw the look off. crex149 06-18-2006, 04:12 AM Did mine today. GEEZ my fingers hurt like hell now, and I have no fingernails left. Looks so much better without the tape IMO[/img] SirScion 06-18-2006, 05:11 PM why didnt you follow my above method? that would have saved your fingernails... mad-sciontist 06-18-2006, 08:37 PM Arizona, is their any chance you have pic closer of the CF pillars... Id like to see where the CF meets the paint at the top.. jon-w9 06-18-2006, 08:39 PM I am thinking about doing mine (silver) but it has the carbon overlays on there already. Is the black 1 piece that I would have to cut the tape near the fiber? I think rmoving the tape will really focus on the CF look. Has anybody removed the tape after the B-pillar stuff was already installed? caphillcruz 06-18-2006, 11:46 PM did mine the other day..looks good http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e157/ScionFusion/Scion%20Fusion%20Photoshoot/IMG_1838.jpg Inneradiction87 06-20-2006, 06:45 AM Can someone describe the little parts that aren't pollished or whatever is wrong with them. Like where are they, and what to do to fix it? SirScion 06-20-2006, 06:59 AM I had no problem with mine, and this is the first that I have heard of it, so chances are, you will not have them. Inneradiction87 06-20-2006, 08:30 AM Cool Ill give it a try and let y'all know what I find. firesquare 06-20-2006, 12:08 PM i took mine off a long time ago. i want to put it back on SirScion 06-20-2006, 06:16 PM LOL I'm sure you can get a kit from the dealer Inneradiction87 06-20-2006, 09:29 PM Why do you want to put it back on? SirScion 06-20-2006, 09:46 PM probably wants the 'single window' look back. Inneradiction87 06-20-2006, 09:54 PM Geeze I dont know if I should take my off now. I like the way it looks but I dont want to regret it. SirScion 06-20-2006, 10:01 PM take it off only front like me :D soundwave 06-20-2006, 10:31 PM my bsp came without tape...is this common? cherryBox 06-21-2006, 10:44 PM ^^i don't know... I was just thinking that the only color it would look halfway decent on is BSP. The only thing that bugs me about the factory vinyl is the piece on the pillar under the door. That looks pretty cheap, but the color would come thru... my 2c mad-sciontist 06-22-2006, 12:43 AM my bsp came without tape...is this common?Yep, the BSP's dont come with the tape... I know for a fact they dont on the xB, not sure about the xA.... arizonaturbo 06-22-2006, 12:56 AM Arizona, is their any chance you have pic closer of the CF pillars...
