View Full Version : wat HID temp did u get?
bronxblaza117 06-06-2006, 03:40 AM thinking about getting HID's but dont know whether to get 5300 or 6000 color temp... some pics of 6000 are to blue, so are nice and white...maybe some can post some pics of each on there tC... i want a nice bright white with some blue, which from wat i have read is 6000 but i see some pics and it looks just blue to me...
jwaggz82 06-06-2006, 03:58 AM I went for 8k and thats perfect for me. It all depends what you like. I think i made the right choice for me.
magyver 06-06-2006, 04:22 AM anything over 5000K is worthless IMO... stock luxary vehidcles are 4300K.. you lose output after 5000K. but everyone wants the"look at me i stick out" color temp.. sorry, not a fan of colored bulbs.. HID is for visibility.. not color.. i think everyone who wants HID's should read alot over at www.hidplanet.com/forums.. a little info goes along way.. i say 5000K.. color should only come from projectors.. but that is me..
jwaggz82 06-06-2006, 04:29 AM yea and you team a 5k bulb w/o projects and you blind the hell out of people comming at you. 8k and its a lot brighter, blue'r, and not as blinding .....which is what i was looking for.
CatalepsicFox 06-06-2006, 04:39 AM ^ 5000Kelvins vs 8000Kelvins
5000K is brighter a lot of people mistaken for the higher color temp as a brighter color. But the truth is the lower the temp the brighter it is.... and the last eye strain you get too. Anything closer to yellow has less eye strain and is the brightest you can go.
taken this off a HID website. I asked my friend which is a physics major... it's true ^_^.
Please note: most customers have a common misconception that the higher the K (Kelvin temperature) the brighter it gets, but in fact, it is the opposite. The K rating is inversely proportional to the light output, therefore the lower the K the brighter the light output. Also Xenon runs cooler and than your traditional halogen, therefore it will not meltyour housing.
If you want to look more like the luxury cars. I recommend 5000K perfectly white. I regret having 8000K right now.

am i missing or reading your reply wrong? 5K is blinding, but 8K is brighter and bluer but not as blinding... not sure what ya mean.. LOL HID bulbs are 35w regardless.. the more color temp, the lesser the usable output... so yeah, higher temp will lower output, but also amke you stand out like crazy.. thats insta po po in my area...

exactly... K is basicly related to color now adays.. higher the color, the less the output.. i just hate the ricers in my area w/ 12K hid kits in there civics the glare the crap out of everyone w/ in 100 light years... daym kids
GenericUserName 06-06-2006, 05:21 AM i went with 8500 and theyre great
i know thay are not as bright as the 5000k or less but
they are still really bright the color is good and the
biggest improvement besides visibilty is the reflector
things in the road...they are so white now its amazing!
a lot better for night time driving
tC9o9 06-06-2006, 05:38 AM i plan to go with 4300k for the lows, and 3000k for the highs which will be converted into DRL's
Kilo6_one 06-06-2006, 06:05 AM i have 5k without projectors and i dont have any problems......
greddy05tc 06-06-2006, 06:59 AM i put the 6000k in mine. they are the best for the way i want my car to look. i like just a slight amount of blue tint to my headlights. the 5000k are just barely brighter than the 6000's that is why i chose them.
over all it depends on what you want out of your headlights. everything after 6000k is just adding more of a blue color and less light output.
Nakioki 06-06-2006, 07:03 AM 12,000k
because everything else is just... Blue
beside i love exotic looks
eujin 06-06-2006, 07:26 AM i have 6000k. i dont blind oncoming traffic, everyone blinds me cuz i'm so low lol.
Lilflip041786 06-06-2006, 11:33 AM McCulloh 8000k

ICrazyChrisI 06-06-2006, 03:26 PM 5000k
krdshrk 06-06-2006, 05:29 PM 3000K - "Ion" Yellow
4500K - Pure White - 3200 Lumen
5000K - White with a Blue Hue - 3000 Lumen
6000K - White with a Violet Hue - 2800 Lumen
8000K - Blue - 2600 Lumen
~4500k is the brightest.
I have 8000K - it's still brighter than stock and looks great (I like the bluish look)

i agree, i had 6k on my first set
i was glad i switched to 8k the second time around
little clearer, but still has nice blue/purple tint to it
bright as hell
greddy05tc 06-07-2006, 07:42 AM hey lilflip, did you adjust your headlights up a little bit or are they still the stock setting.
i have the McChulloch 6000k kit but mine headlights seam like they aim more towards the ground. maybe it just because i have my coilovers all the way down.
any body else have this issue.

Promax 10,000k HID's
Tekka 06-10-2006, 05:51 AM I got 7000k for $140 and love em...
i tried four diff bulbs 5000k was pretty white and the birghtest of all, 6000k which was bright but not that ricer blue enough for me and 8000k which were really beautiful but too dim so i got 7000k which was a nice trade off between the two still bright white with a little blue
the truth is not all HID of the same tempertaure will look the same, ive seen a 6000k mccullochs vs 6000k techones and the mccullochs looked alot bluer.. From what i understand, the distributer i got it from told me each HID kit are probable off by 100-300k so diff brands will be diff colors...
Besides don;t believe the pictures because in person the lights usually look like a diff color...In person my lights don;t look so blue but on my camera depending on my ISO setting and the angle it;s looks like like SUPER SUPER blue...
so i suggest you go see them in person...
nismoskyline 06-10-2006, 09:27 AM 6k here, not too blue not too white perfect imo
