Intake & Exhaust combo
Hi all,
I am a proud owner of a 06XB. Never thought I would want one then I test drove it and fell in love it's a real blast to drive.
My question is, has anyone had alot of success with a intake and exhaust system combination? I'm looking for a power increase and at the same time better MPG. Is this possible? Reading all the parts company's information it leads me to believe that it is. Please let me know.
Thanks,
JP

The 2006 xB does not accept intakes. The stock air box has some sort of carbon filter in it and when you put in an intake, it will throw a CEL. Wait a month or so and see if the big companies like AEM can fix that problem.

As for the original question, some intakes and possibly exhaust might make your MPG go up, but dont count on it, once you put these on you will stomp the gas more to feel the little bit of Hp you got from them and to hear the sound. If your worried about MPG don't MOD the car.
Most people don't report any significant gains. Intake/Header/exhaust combos for the xB unfortunately don't do as much as you'd think. Most are happy just having it and there is a slight difference but not like going force induced. I have an 05 B and it's got the Fujita SRI, Strup header and exhaust.
I don't think my milage is any better or worse. Although the idea behind an intake is to get the computer to throw more fuel to increase the horsepower. . . it's a little more complicated then that, but I personally don't understand how you're going to gain milage when you're burning more fuel. Then again some owners have stated an increase in milage. I think if my math is correct I get maybe a mile or two more, but the way I drive I only net about 28-30 mpg with mixed city/highway driving. it's not the 32/35 mpg that the sticker said but I never really believe those numbers anyway, usually with any car or truck I knock off about 5 mpg. Anyhow, do a search and see what you come up with, I spend more time making sure that someone hasn't asked then I do posting. . .ha ha ha
I understand the B needing more power, it's one of the biggest complaints. There are many ways to achieve a little more power and it can get expensive. Also until a manufacturer figures out how to make the intake for the 06 B an exhaust might not do as much as one would think on our cars. But you can do it, just won't be Carb legal in California, if you're not in California the don't worry. According to the warning labels on everything "is known to cause cancer" in California. Sometimes I'm glad I moved back to the east coast.
I'm not trying to be negative, I love my B but when I look back I could have bought my rims long ago if I wasn't trying to get a little more power out of an already streamlined engine. I know with the mods I have done I have a little more horsepower but to be honest I think I've spent around $600 or more on the I/H/E set up and to get that little oomph, I"m still not there. I did get some quality product though. . .

Let me get my point across..
Nothing has changed on the 06 xB engine's from previous years, except the way the VSV mounts( it now screws on instead of clips).
The reason you do not see the manufacturers putting 06 on there list, is beacuse they have not tested them on the 06 yet, that is it, nothing has changed.

Yea i own a 06 Xb and had my intake on for a few months now and all is good. right now i have a AEM cold air intake and a OBX-R Axle Back Exhaust and i feel a def. gain in horse and i feel i still receive the same MPG as stock. not sure if better but def. no less....... Youcan find both on ebay...
AEM Intake = 125$ including shipping...(got mine used in exc. cond.)
OBX-R Axle back - 225$ inc. shipping (Brand New/ 30 min install topps)
next is headers for sure.

some people were saying it wouldnt pass inspection due to the lack of a carbon filter element on aftermarket intakes for the 06 models. as for which state i dont know probably just cali.
as far as power increase i also have the strup header + exhaust and fujita intake and also a lightweight crank pulley. felt the most gain from the pulley.

riiiighht.
well, you're very wrong.
Ok so let me see if I have this right-
I will fail a smog test here in Cali if I install an aftermarket intake (or more specifically, airbox w/out the charcoal bs) but my smog results will be otherwise unaffected by aftermarket exhaust...
Correct?
I ordered an AEM intake and a Greddy evo axle-back exhaust a couple days ago so I need to know if I need to return the AEM. Thanks.
