I personally think they are a great idea and should be made mandatory to have but in regards to cars I have no idea...

Does anyone have info about the Clear Bra for cars (asked above but never answered)? I found one company in Irvine (http://www.elitecoating.com/) that has some information and pics. Has anyone used this type of product before? Does anyone know of any companies in San Diego that do this? Thanks, Jayme

well, I think I just answered my own question. Found a link to this San Diego company in an xB thread. Guess I'll give them a call for more info.

I have a clearbra kit on my audi, and it was the best $500 I have ever spent on the car. The kit covers the front bumper, 1/3 of the hood, a bit of the fenders, the sideview mirrors, and the door edges. Not only does it protect your car from rock chips, but bug guts, and tar, and all that other nasty ____ is really easy to clean off the front of your car when you have the clearbra on.

i know 3m makes some clear bra's. its like a film i think that you have to put on your car like saran wrap. (i think)

I had one put on my car. It cost a over 600, but was well worth it. The company that did mine (roadblock) uses a 3M film. They did a ____ty job the first time, but my dealer _____ed them out and they are going to redo it soon.

You can notice it when you are up close, but not from any kind of distance. Its totally worth doing, as it you plan to keep the car for a while the front end is gonna get chewed up, and in the case with the clear bra, it does no damage.

I just inquired about this and got this response:
Thank You!

Cost for the Hood and Bumper kit for the tC will be $389.90. While we
do not have the kit listed online yet, we do have the vehicle in our
tracing schedule. If you desire the kit to be cut and sent to you, we
can put it ahead of the other vehicles we are preparing.

Shipping cost will be $6.50.

Please let me know your desire and we can send you an Invoice through
Paypal from which to start your order.

The kit will take about one (1) week to process from reciept of
payment.

Sincerely,

The price seems reasonable, but I'm not sure if I would install it myself or get somebody locally to do it. Some tint shops also do the clear bras as the technique is similar.

Does anybody know of a good clear bra installer in Delaware (or nearby)? The more I think about it, the more I want one, and I know how important the quality of installation is, so I'd like to find somebody that does good work. Thanks.

I had mine installed for 150. covered 1/3 of the hood and mirrors. For another 100 he could do the bumper but I didn't want to...

Having it dealer-installed around here is 499 for toyota and 399 for scion. No point in doing it if your car doesnt come with it, coz you are gonna have to take your car somewhere (or wait for them to come to you) anyway... so why pay more?

I have a picture of a Ferrari on my desktop, and it literally took me 5 months before I realized that it has a clear bra on (what a chest!). I think it's a great idea, and I will definitely get one if I get a tC. My current car has lots of paint chips due to rocks and it just makes me sad when I look at the front of my car up close.

Well, it sounds like the clear paint protection stuff is much more popular out west. I called a local place that I heard installed them, but they don't do it anymore. They referred me to a company in Baltimore that does them and they sound really good (Proform Protective Films (http://www.proformauto.com/index2.php).) I know how important the installation is on these things, maybe even more than the materials themselves. I also know you could easily spend more than a thousand dollars getting one installed (including materials.) Here are some great pics of an M3 getting paint protection (http://www.imagestation.com/album/pictures.html?id=4291563809).

Anyway, long story short, Proform said the install price would be about the same as the materials price, so figure about $800 for the stuff installed. I really can't justify that kind of expense on such an "economical" car. If I bought a Corvette or a WRX STi or something, maybe, but then I probably wouldn't be able to afford an extra $800 :).

Yup. The last Z8s were all Alpina Z8s (http://www.bmwworld.com/models/z8_alpina1.htm). On that car I would spend more than $800 for paint protection. I'm sure he spent plenty more.
