View Full Version : Does the xA make a great autocrosser? Swechi 06-22-2004, 04:51 AM I know that the Mini Cooper is awesome, but how does the xA do? DJ_X_Trodinaire 06-22-2004, 01:46 PM there could be a potential when you drop a load of cash  Tamago 06-22-2004, 02:22 PM not necessarily a load of cash! i'm gonna have maybe 1600 in suspension (including wheels) when i'm ready to autoX.. i'll let ya know how it goes.. adn remember, the 1.5 in the xA puts it in a pretty easy class to win.. only against the older mini's and older civic/crx's.. it'll hang.. :) runforestrun 06-23-2004, 03:39 AM there could be a potential when you drop a load of cash  That's a load of crap! JACKMOTT's mods: 04 Scion XA - Koni adjustable shocks, AEM Intake, ground controll aoilovers, 15x6.5 inch wheels, 205 Falken Azenis tires, DC Header, lightweight battery, hotchkiss swaybars - that's not a load of cash! As CivicEater stated, his XA will be close to what JACMOTT had (springs/shocks and intake only mods on his first time out with the XA) and performed very well against minis and even took out some cars outside of his class. Tamago 06-24-2004, 02:11 PM when are upgrades EVER cheap? you get what you pay for.. yes, eventually, APC will start making parts for you cheap bastards, but in the mean time, companies like HKS, JIC-Magic, and Tein are here.. i happen to think that the $600 i spent on Tanabe S-OC Type II coilovers is worth it.. can you honestly say you think $600 is a bad deal for a full coilover set? didn't think so.. kdanie 06-24-2004, 03:45 PM The Koni shocks are the only expensive part of the upgrades, and they are not absolutly necessary. The "coil overs" are not necessary either.... Technically, all McPhearson struts are coil overs, just not adjustable. The rear "coil overs" are really just adjustable spring pearches, the coil isn't "over" anything! The tires/wheels, though very sticky, are much cheaper than most of us run on the street!! Wheels are about $100 ea and tires are $60 ea.!! Add shipping of course. The xA will likely fit in the same class as the N/A new Mini which dominates that class. I don't think the SCCA has classified the xA yet. OH, Yeah.... don't think the early Mini's are easy to beat, they have had decades of development and a properly prepared "S" version is a VERY quick car. The xA can be made to handle VERY well for not much $$$. Will it be competitive in it's class (when they get around to classifying it)? It won't be able to beat the Mini on a regular basis if the drivers are both competent, the Mini has a much better suspension design, lower CG, and more development already. ken DJ_X_Trodinaire 06-24-2004, 06:55 PM *watches runforestrun shove DJ's face into that thread... damn...lol I am skurrrrrd! anything over 1000$ a load of cash to me :P Tamago 04-25-2007, 08:36 PM *load of cash spent* car still slow.. but pax's pretty well :) |
