Well, i was driving and coming off the turnpike to get to my scionevolution club, and i was making my final left turn, my tires acted stupid on me and had to go cheap. so i basically skidded out of control and hit the median infront of me and jumped onto the other lanes and it turned back and i landed back ontop of the median. thank god i didnt hit n e one or n e one didnt hit me. i thank God that im ok and everything because i know it could have been worse. My tires are the worst, never buy kumho ecstas, the slide for no apparent reason. i will never buy from kumhos again. well heres a few pix of the incident:
Plz if your a mechanic or something, could you tell me how bad this thing is? like will it cost alot to fix and do you know whats broken? i took pics of behind the rims:
jesus man....thank god you're okay....is it just the tire thats screwd up or is there bodywork screwd up too?
fishingexpert87
06-13-2006, 05:17 AM
thanks, within all seriousness, im hoping its just the tire, but when i drove it a bit to get it off the median, the rim kept rubbing on the fender :(

You've got some structural damage. The bill is going to hurt. Sorry. I learned years ago that before anything else, tires are most important.
fishingexpert87

wheres the structural damage? the people that came to help me were from the scion club too and they said it wont cost too much. they said i should look in a junk yard for a tc and get one off of that and i shouldnt be looking for over $400 to spend

I think what you have there is a bent lower control arm, and wheel. I say lower control arm because I had a minor "mishap" on the road in November with my xA.
Essentially I spun out a smacked a telephone pole with the passenger side front fender and my wheel took most of the impact. Afterwards I had the same problem as you, minus the flat tire, and after I did an inspection I found my lower control arm was shaped like a "U".
You may have some other damage in there, so I would have a professional look at it first.

possible: upper strut damage, strut damage, upper and lower control arms, cv axle, check for any frame damage, sway bar damage, rim and tire of course....and add if any body and paint damage
might also want to check for any under carrage damage too

dam dude i head about this at the meet. im glad to see that you are ok and thats the most important thing. as far as damage to the car.
1. defenitely strut, axel, sway bar and component damage.
2. you also have some frame damage at the strut area because your shocks are pushed back to the door and the wheel is not centered.
3. LCA and UCA damage. i can tell by the stress on the LCA especialy
4. you might be lucky but also your axle looks fried and i would check also on the other side as you seemed to have taken a direct impact from the side which might haved shoved the engine over or given the axle housing a good wack.
from those pics that looks like that sums it up. if i was there i could tell you more.
mostly like also you will need to replace the entire assemblye from LCA to UCA for safety reasons as im sure also your rotor and caliper took a hard blow.
hopefully you have a good insurance company. the damamges are pretty bad but can be fixed with the right shop. i hope all goes well for you and if you need any parts info or good shops to help LMK.
also get rid of those tires and buy some flaken azenis, toyo proxies, yokohamas or pzeros.

I am willing to bet the lower control arm is all jacked up, especially since it's rubbing on the fender. This happened to my mom on her car and it looked the same way as yours on the picture and it was around 150 for the part at the local junk yard, and 75 bucks for the CV joint........ her husband put it on. So sorry and wish you the best of luck,

Hey jessicagmz, thnx for the info, i think im gonna go get my car checked and see what the problem is, i just have the biggest feeling the shops are gonna tell me more things than i would need so that they can get more money. i dont want insurance in this because its gonna get so high and id rather pay for the damage. this morning i checked it out again and i still see no damage, i checked the struts, rotor, the axle arm, everything, i dont seee n e thing, im hoping if i take off the feel and look at it better, it might just be bent. but the junk yard is a good idea, im gonna have to find one nearby that might have some tcs.
And guys, i wasnt speeding, trust me, the space to make that turn is basically the width of my car.

06-14-2006, 05:16 PM
Alright guys i think i found the possible problem in this, i basically jacked my car up and looked under and this is what i found:
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g162/fishingexpert87/DSC02373.jpg
This picture is from the other side to show how its supposed to be straight
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g162/fishingexpert87/DSC02366.jpg
That bottom arm thing is bent pretty hard and twisted to the side making it like a U. I guess thats why the rotor isnt exactly in the middle, plus idk if the last picture is normal, i just took the pic just in case, everything else in there looked normal, no bents nothing. You think i could just take it to a shop and get them to make it straight again? or should i find a new one? Also i have a biiiiiigggggggg problem, i cannot find the key lock for my rims, i have one that unlocks 4 of them, but the fifth one i cant find :( what do i dooo???????
it came off that *uck up car? and its in perfect condition?? wow..
89 bucks things are looking up^
fishingexpert87
06-15-2006, 02:17 AM
ok i finally found the lock for my rims and i took off that wheel, and when i tok it off, i got a closer look at things and i noticed that my sway bar under there was bent, as you can see on the last picture, so i guess i need a new sway bar, and a new control arm. most likely i will buy a performance one, unless if i can find someone that has the stock one. can i take off the sway bar and the car will be ok without having one on? or will the car split in half or something? lol
TCpete
06-15-2006, 05:48 AM
i would highly recomend getting new control arms they both might be bent so check the top one also.. also compare both side of the car so u can notice the diferences in the angles of the arms.. they look bent but i cant tell the from the pics on the top one but the bottoms one is toast. dont reshape it buy a new one.
you should be ok without the sway bar off the car but i would not do an heavy driving. take it slow and easy. also dont get a mechanic for that ____ dude. those are all easy parts to swap out. the arms are not hard and the only thing i would recomend also replacing is the axle as the boot looks busted and so could the insides.. that leak should not be there and i wouldnt take a chance... start by switching the LCA and the UCA (if its bent or damaged) see if that helps straighten it out. then start inspecting the rotor assembly and ball joints.
you might be able to get around with the axle for a few days but atleast you can start driving again.
fishingexpert87
06-15-2006, 06:04 AM
i thought i read that the lower control arm is pretty hard to install without a proper lift, i mean i have the jack stands if that helps. i only noticed that the lca is bent beyond belief and the sway bar is bent and hitting the axle , those two parts are wats make the wheel pushed all the way back like the picture shows. im not sure where that leak is coming from but i will take care of this as soon as i get a job lol

From the pics I can see that the sway bar endlink is slightly bent, the steering rack is totally F'd (the one with a decent bend in it, its not an axle). The front sway bar might be bent. And possibly upper and lower control arms but I cant tell too well form the pictures.
Just my opinion on whats messed up. A shop or some friends with simple know how should be able to help you out.

believe me i feel for you.. accidents suck...
but kumho's are not as bad as you say. primarily for
price reasons, i've purchased more kumho's than any
other tire brand, and they've served me well.
but for your car to actually 'jump onto the other lanes, spin,
and jump back into some other lanes,' seems like you were goin a little beyond safe speeds to maintain control of
your car. as i am in florida, and it's been raining...
high speeds + turn off freeway + wet road= not good

06-21-2006, 03:47 PM
lol i could swear to you as many times as you guys want but i was not going fast. you can even ask miamibusta because he was infront of me. I was the slow one from the group. the floor could have been wet but i was too scared to know what to do but to look only at my car.
miamibusta69
06-21-2006, 05:41 PM
wasnt wet........crappy tires and a jerk of the steering wheel from one side to the other to get that lil bit of momentum .. even though you might not of noticed it.... also you said you hit the brakes into the turn correct me if im wrong but the front brakes apply more pressure which would definitly cause the back to slide under a hard turn well thats what i think..
I never hit the brakes into a turn no matter how fast im going . but then again ive never felt the back come loose the whole car just stays straight and slides a lil bit...
idn ala but id find a big lot and play with your car when your get new tires like i did to c what your car can handle!!!!!!!

Your tires went stupid on you? Shouldn't that read, "I was stupid", "I have poor judgement", "but I'm ok and I learned from my mistake".
If I could blame other people on all the stupid things I've done I wouldn't get anywhere in life. You have to just suck it up and move on. Yeah it sucks but if you don't you'll just keep making the same mistakes. The first thing you should invest in after you fix your car is some time autocrossing with a good teacher, you'll find out you don't know what driving is compared to some of those guys.
The good thing is it's only money and it's only a car. It could have been worse, you could have gotten hurt, hurt someone else, or worse of all gotten a girl pregnant.
Peace.

What kind of kumho ecsta's? There are 711, 712, ASX, and I think one more.
I have the 711's and have never had any similar problems, they grip pretty well.
Sorry to hear about your accident. I hit a curb with mine about 5 months ago and bent a lower control arm, it sucked.
Jimmy

hey looser i told you it wasnt my fault, u werent there so dont try and blame this all on my driving, i told u did not speed and sticking to that. i think it was raining earlier that day so it might of been from that, im good at driving, its not hard to control a car, but dont try and put this accident as if i did it on purpose.
DoubleJ16 i think they are 711's, i agree they do grip pretty good on dry floors, but have u noticed how bad it is in water??
Jimmy, man that sucks to pay$7k on all the damages, did they tell you what was wrong with your car?? cuz so far all i need to spend is $400 and im good

Yeah, I agree they don't hook up too well in the rain. Maybe just slightly better then the stock bridgestones which make you feel like you're driving on ice when it rains. Those crappy stock tires got me into a habbit of driving insanely slow in the rain.

wheres the structural damage? the people that came to help me were from the scion club too and they said it wont cost too much. they said i should look in a junk yard for a tc and get one off of that and i shouldnt be looking for over $400 to spend
either way, even if u dont spend much on the body, your rim is screwed man, you are most probably gonna want to replace that or your car will shake back and forth while u drive

hey esisso i was thinking of getting my rim repaired, a shop told me they will fix it for $150 so i might go that route,
Tcpete: im on vacation right now but as soon as i get back i will go the same day to buy the inner tie rod and install it on, im not sure how to take the tie rod off but we'll see :)

ok i got everything in and i put everything back. now when i turn the car on, i noticed the ABS sign is on and the little squiggly circle with the exclamation mark in the middle was flashing. ok so i start my car and i start driving, but my steering wheel feels so loose and i have to turn it to the side to make the car go straight, plus when i make a turn it sounds as if im drifting. wat do i do? i kno for sure i need a wheel alignment but is that the only problem???? i never seen the ABS sign before, what do i do with that?
Im sure you figured out by now that the little squiggly circle with the exclamation point is letting you know that any of your tires pressure is low. once you get all your tires set... the reset button is in the glove box upper left corner
fishingexpert87
07-15-2006, 05:36 PM
^^ yea i got all the tires the same pressure and pressed the button but the exclamation thing is still up, it might be because i have 18's in the back and 17's in the front.
hey faulkner, the problem is, that if i wanna buy a new rim, its gonna cost me $250, it depends on how much money i have at the time so i guess we'll see.

08-15-2006, 02:29 PM
yea..find a junkyard with a TC and get the sensor from it. put it in your pants and ride the hell out lol.. thats what i use to do when i needed a small part for my civic lol..
and special tool my ___ if you have a nice breaker bar, huge open ended wrench and sockets and some strong hands that rod will come off no prob.
either way screw ABS lol. ride with out it until u save up for it. if its only the sensor then good because atleast u know were the problem is.. just drive easy until u get one.
man whoring though would be the best option lol.
fishingexpert87
08-15-2006, 03:06 PM
lmfao manwhoring sounds so fun, lmao
im gonna wait for the sensor till i get the money or taking one from a junkyard sounds fun lol.
but right now what i notice is that when im driving, my steering wheel wont stay straight if i let go of it, it will always go to the right no matter what, i think this is a problem but idk what?????????

sigh, just when i thought everything was done with the car, 2 days ago i begin to hear a loud vibration on the front right side of the car, (where i crashed), whenever i reach like 30 mph and let go of the gas u can hear it, and it travels thru the car making some parts rattle, so i took it to tire kingdom to blame it on them when they fixed my camber because thats what was making my wheel not aligned too much. so i told them ever since they fixed the camber ive been getting a weird noise from the front right side. they checked it and said it was a bearing that went bad, so they said $325 to fix. than i took it to the dealership in which they first told me to take off my rims, which i did, and than i gave it to them to check my car, than they called me and was like "uve had a frontal accident didnt u" (damn they caught me lol) so i told them it was 3 months ago and i got everything fixed. they said the warranty cannot cover that. and they said $350 to fix. so i guess i have no choice but to pay up because they said the bearing can get worse and mess thigns up :(
curse the day i had that accident :( i could of bought a turbo with all the money im spending on this

yaaaay i got my car fixed!!!!! lmao when i drive i hear no noise at all and i feel like im floating, i love it. now all i got left to do is get the abs thing fixed, they showed me wat was wrong with the abds, they said it wasnt the sensor, they said the abs ring broke, so i guess i need another one of those suckers but they were charging me $505 for it plus tax, the guy said he will help me with the price with like 10 or 20% off but thats still alot of money for a ring. looks like i have to find me a good junk yard :)
