Ok so today I went to my moms house with the box. Parked teh car facing down hill. Come out of her house to see a stream of water comeing from the car. I do not use AC at all. So i get under teh car. The liquid has no smell so i assume its water. I can see it driping REALLY fast from the under carrage. So I pop the hood. Look way in there and I see a grey tube about 1/2 an inch in diamiter. Is this some kind of drainage?

It did rain earlier in the day(like 6 hours) and I had driven home form work. then from home to my moms.

Is it like a drain for water that comes off the wind sheild or something?

could be the drainage for the cowl? or under the front wipers?

Defroster? Defrosters these days run the A/C pump to remove moisture from the air..

does the AC unit stay on even if the cars AC is not blowing it into the car???? MAybe????

If its possible that you had your defroster on, then the AC would have been on and would account for the puddle.

There is also a drain tube from the cowling below the windshield on both the drivers and passenger side. So the rain you had earlier was finding its way to the ground. Nothing to be alarmed about.

yep, side affect of AC - water moisture that has to come out somewhere... so it happens with every AC, whenever it is on, and when you turn it off some water might still drip down afterwards from the lines....

AC moisture. Otherwise, recirculating your moist breath would fog all the windows.

Don't sweat it. You should see the Grand Caravan, it's got a rear AC unit too, so the first time I saw a SECOND puddle near the back of the van had me a little worried at first

If you did not have AC on that day, or, as was mentioned by a couple, the defroster on that day, then the water almost certainly had to be drainage from the rain that happened earlier. What wasn't mentioned is whether you saw the water draining from the tube you saw and asked about, or just saw the tube and was curious.

Water due to defroster/AC action will drip regardless of whether the vehicle is on a hill or not, though you will often see a trail or water from where a parked vehicle has just taken off (motion of car sends more out draining). You will see the same thing occur when people have washed their vehicles or went to a car wash - the exterior has dried but the crevices still have water, and the movement of the vehicle away from a stop results in a water trail. This also happens from the exhaust pipe. The parking of the vehicle at an incline let loose some water. No sweat.


The AC does not cycle on and off unless the defroster is on or the AC is turned on. If it is turned off and you just have the fan moving, then no water collects because the AC is not removing moisture from the air.
