View Full Version : Another example of why you need one....
1epoXyBox 06-22-2006, 04:00 PM This is your lungs without a cabin filter. I just took out the old filter after about one years use. After seeing this, I'm glad I installed one. Give your lungs a break and install one if have not already done so. Follow the links below for more info:

Baine 06-22-2006, 04:33 PM only $12 @ Autozone and it less bother than DIY
evilBOXevil 06-22-2006, 06:23 PM *cough* *cough*...really?!
 Good show of how necessary the filter is.
YourNameHere 06-22-2006, 06:29 PM what do i ask for at autozone? partnumber?
Baine 06-22-2006, 06:33 PM what do i ask for at autozone? partnumber?
Just ask for a cabin air filter for a Scion xA, xB, or a Toyota Echo. It's the Same filter.
I think that the Rav4 also uses the same filter. They where able to look it up on their
computer.
GetCaughtDead 06-22-2006, 06:37 PM omg! do you smoke?? either that, or it's all that smog in LA.

hehe, not a smoker. This is L.A. !!!!!
GetCaughtDead 06-22-2006, 07:26 PM lol, I don't know why, but all I could think of when I read that was that Sheryl Crow song... "This ain't no disco...this is L.A.!" :lalala:
Jenna 06-22-2006, 07:33 PM only $12 @ Autozone and it less bother than DIY
LOL, not for me. Had it made and installed after reading this thread in 5 minutes. Though I do want to go to Home Depot and get that special filter and use that instead, eventually.

I have been doing the DIY filter for a year. the OEM filter work better IMO. Not for
the $25 the dealer charges you. But for $12 I will buy one. Well two no as the wife
needs one as well. If I buy a case of them, they will go done to about $10 each. I have
been thinking of a group buy for the local club.
I just made two of these for my boxes ... took me about 10 minutes, including figuring out why my glove box wasn't going back in right (didn't have the "feet" hooked in)
Awesome cheap first mod!
djrza786 06-24-2006, 06:31 PM Man, that's something, I got a furnace filter a couple weeks ago for my tC, but just haven't had the chance to put it in. I think I gotta do it soon.
Thanks for the pics man.
spaceace77 06-24-2006, 06:55 PM My nose's built -in hair and snot filter works better than any paper filter! My higher power modeled it after the K & N.
But seriously,...you all understand that your nose filters out almost all airborne particulate in normal dust conditions....
Ok kids...flame away! :P
Thanks for the pics!
OldYeller 06-25-2006, 05:06 AM I finally broke down and got one from my local Kragens. When I got it home I noticed that it said it would fit the Echo and Rav4. As my wife drives a Rav4 I decided to look and see if she had the filter. HOLY CRAP!! It was full of leaf debris and was pitch black. I got one for her car right away.
Rodek 06-26-2006, 01:00 AM Will it get that dirty if you don't use the fresh air setting or drive with your windows down?
zinker 06-26-2006, 08:13 AM Got a 4 pack of the full size furnace filters at walmart in the clearence aisle for 50 cents guess I cant beat that for a deal
bB2NER 06-26-2006, 09:39 AM xB Hawk should be all over this thread soon! He has a DIY thread about what filter you need to get to make 4 of them for less than 1 Toyota cabin air filter costs.
I must check mine to see how dirty it has gotten in 5 months. :nails:
firesquare 06-26-2006, 10:39 PM i cant breathe lookin at that. now ill get one. gottta protect my daughter
Short_Bus 06-26-2006, 11:40 PM Mine looked the same so I made a bunch from one giant filter...def. a recommended piece once you see how quick they get dirty
pornstarmatt 06-26-2006, 11:49 PM Only a year huh? yeah I think I need one too...
1epoXyBox 11-07-2007, 06:13 AM Well, its that time again! Time to change the cabin filter.
Old filter. Yuck!!!

firesquare 11-07-2007, 10:34 AM ooh thread from the dead! i installed mt 12 dollar puroilator filter in 4 months ago. and i wait now.
bB2NER 11-07-2007, 05:54 PM Mine has been in for about 2 years. Do you think it will be ok for 2 more. It's only got like 12K on it.
HeathenBrewing 11-07-2007, 06:13 PM Mine has been in for about 2 years. Do you think it will be ok for 2 more. It's only got like 12K on it.
Depends on where you drive, if you drive with fresh air or recirc.....too many variables to give a certain time/mileage guideline.
Pull it out and check....if you can, post a pic here as well.
Personally, I change mine every 12 months (about 8-9K miles) and it always looks horrid.
bB2NER 11-07-2007, 06:45 PM OK, good idea will go check it now and post up a pic if needed
Big_Bird 11-07-2007, 07:54 PM well guess i gotta do this real quick
saddlesore 11-09-2007, 11:44 PM Yup.. it's that time again.... x2
typhoonorchid 11-10-2007, 01:22 PM So what does this do? It filters both recirculated and the fresh air coming in the cabin?
I would get one for winter maybe, but all summer I drive with my windows down.
bB2NER 11-10-2007, 06:36 PM So what does this do? It filters both recirculated and the fresh air coming in the cabin?
I would get one for winter maybe, but all summer I drive with my windows down.Wow, that must be awful noisy. I can't stand having the windows down in the box.
Gothbox 11-10-2007, 07:37 PM I love it
well that and mine is an 04 and I have the crappy AC in mine.
OC_ScionBox 11-10-2007, 10:08 PM how often are you suppose to replace your
cabin filter and how much are they and
how hard are they to install???
CREEPINGONCHROME 11-10-2007, 11:05 PM i replace about 8 a day and it depends where you live and where you drive!i would replace every 10,000 miles!
1epoXyBox 11-11-2007, 02:28 AM I replace mine about every year (I probably should do it every 6 months since I live in the city).
You can buy a filter from the dealer, but I prefer to make my own out of a larger home filter. Its cheaper that way. I also get a better quality filter. I just cut it and throw it in there. Works great on fresh air and recirculate.
RenatUS 11-11-2007, 11:28 PM I've just installed mine today. That was easy and fast. I didn't even finished my first Heineken Light -filter was already on it's place. Will see...
hotbox05 11-11-2007, 11:54 PM tasty scrumptious
WAlterEgo 11-14-2007, 03:39 AM taking care if the in cabin filter is a must... tis a shame that dealers will rip you off just to replace 'em for ya.
xBHAWK 11-24-2007, 10:21 PM The step by step, do it yourself instructions include photos of how to pop off glove box to access the Cabin Air Filter tray.
Same filter as the 2005 RAV4, at any parts store for about $12. Dealers get $22, $35 installed.
Go to the TECH Section and see the XB thread called "Fabricate your own Cabin Air Filter".
BbTuner, I was out on the street telling Scion owners to install a cabin air filter because Scion does not provide one!
1epoXyBox 12-03-2010, 08:45 PM Resurrecting the long dead thread. Just installed a fresh filter. The old one was in there for about a year I think.
