Default I have a serious Super vs. Turbo question (gimme your $0.02)

Do you think that a tC fitted with a SC by a toyota dealership would be easier to sell/trade in than a turbo that could have been fitted by anyone?

If I go the SC route then I wouldnt get headers or pulleys so as to keep the warranty, So its a lot of money for the horsepower.

If I go turbo then I can produce a lot more horsepower for the money, but will I pay the price in resale value?

I dont think I would buy a second hand NA car that has been turboed by someone I dont know or have heard of, so why would I expect someone else to do it instead?????

I know a turbo is where the fun lies but I'm not goin to keep this car forever.

Do you see my point? what do you guys think????

Your resale value will be substantially higher with a supercharger as opposed to a turbo, but both will be lower than stock naturally.

That kind of depends who you sell it to, though. But Mattys is right.

You'll have a much better chance of selling a car with Toyota Certified parts installed by a Toyota Dealership than a car with a ton of aftermarket upgrades.

hmm.. hard to say.... i think if you are going to go f/i.. the trd s/c is the way to go if you're planning to resell.

I think even if I put a header and pulleys on with the SC someone would be more apt to buying the car if I had a receipt from a Toyota dealership for installing the SC.

Ive got a new job that pays good, and my wife graduates in Dec ( me 33, the wife 21 year old student nurse and very cute!! its amazing what a Scottish accent gets you)anyway back to my point.

Its going to be about $4k - $4.5K to get me 230 whp.
Dunno, maybe a Subbie is on the horizon?

I wouldn't buy it if I could get one for the same price that didn't have the header & pulley. If you're looking for the highest resale value, then the sc with no other mods would be best, imo.

Yeah super would be your best bet. You may even be able to get more money with your resale too than compared to stock. Considering it is all toyota, And if someone sees it and you say it got a factory super, you can raise your price for the sale. Think of it like a mustang with a roush blower on it. You can get more money for it cause you can tell the people if there are any probs you can go to any toyota in america and get it fixed because it is all toyota. You don't have to go to some special speed shop to get it fixed or worked on, like a turbo.

If you have a toyota installed SC with receipts, you'll be able to sell it for much higher than the book value of an n/a, and much MUCH higher than one with a turbocharger unless it was professionally installed by a mutually (between you and potential buyer) respected performance shop.

however, there will be more buyers wanting an n/a or supercharged tC than buyers wanting a turbocharged one.

The supercharger would definitely get you a higher resale value. Not just because it is a supercharger, but because it is a dealer option and the buyer would know that Toyota put a lot of money and time into the development of the kit.

Thanks,I'm trying to decide this with my head and not my ...heart!!!!
a lot of people get caught up in the performance without thinking that one day you will put a for sale sign on it.

My dad always said that no matter what you really like in a car, you must always think that you will need to find someone who likes it just as much as you.

A turbo will limit my customer base, I think the SC is a better option.

Heres the list.
Supercharger, s-techs, hotchkis sways, umnitza intake ( i have one already) and a good exhaust maybe a header (but only when im outwith 36k miles).

FWIW, especially since you have an RS2, the more TRD stuff you put in there, the more you'll get for it in the future. That's the sole reason the only stuff I'm putting in my car is TRD. When I sell it, I'll be able to get loads more than people with mix and match performance parts.

To those who would disagree with me, you know it's true!

TRD Supercharger will not add a penny to your trade-in. Dealerships don't care about your upgrades, some will even give you less because they will have to return it to factory condition. Ask me how I know...

Best way to go if you don't have a buyer lined up for your modded car is to return it as close as possible to stock, eBay out your upgrades and sell/trade the car by itself.

Trading in your car at the dealer is the worst thing you can do. Sell it privately.
