Well it looks like the Spec model has arrived.
Before I found out what a crippled car this was, I thought it sounded interesting and spoke with the manager over at Scion of Dallas.
Of course that was a month ago and they had no idea what I was talking about when I asked for the Spec model.
Lo and behold, he called yesterday and said "we have a spec model in stock with your name on it!".
Like I said, I have no interest in these anymore since getting all the details on them, but hey, they're finally showing up.

Crippled as in no cruise, steering wheel stereo control, etc. I don't feel the minimal price difference is worth all that they've taken off the car. Initially my main thought was it would be cool to not pay for the nice factory rims when I'm going to replace them anyway.

it's supposed to be like that.
saves money so that tuners can do what they want with it. come on... who's gonna use cruise control on the track..?
also why the steelies... you already mentioned why it was smart to do so (you're going to replace them).
same thing with everything else.

I am glad I don't have steering wheel controls. I think the wheel looks much cleaner without that and it isn't that hard to reach up and actually push the buttons on the stereo. I can see the "no cruise" being an inconvenience, but not crippled. This is a "sporty" edition of the tC meant for modding and racing.
Ok, so you guys like it, I get it, so sorry. They took away thousands of dollars of features and only give you about $1500 in savings. It's not to my liking, if you like it, please buy one. This wasn't even the point of my original post, so I'm sorry if I've offended anyone.
I just didnt understand what you were refferring to. I see what you are talking about now with it not having all the features. Personally I agree they should have knocked more off the price as well and am not interested in that model.

I HATE my steering wheel controls!!!!
LOL, everyone was ragging on this car in one of the other threads, now everybody loves it.
If you don't like the steering wheel controls, you could always put a wheel on without them. I mean, with the Spec, you're paying for the feature even though you're not getting it so it would be the same deal

I agree with mplex. We have 2 spec models right now and overall I wouldn't have a problem with them if the cost reflected it more. I don't think they took off enough money for what they took away. Just my .02. However I do kind of like the one piece glass roof. Without the motor and track not only is it cleaner but it appears to have more viewable space.
I wouldnt mind having the steering wheel controls... maybe a wheel swap is in order squall
But I think I would like them better if it was all the color of the wheel. so if they could be dyed to match the color of the wheel it would be a LOT nicer. I am not a fan of the silver parts on the wheel.
But like everyone says, a tuner edition should be stripped down, that is the purpose of it, for people that seriously want to mod it. So they should have knocked more off the price. For that price difference you could just buy the tC, mod it and sell off the stock parts and still not be looking too bad. And they should have put in a metal roof. The whole reason for getting rid of the moonroof is to shave the extra 68 lbs it adds to the top of the car, so replacing it with solid glass just removes a feature, but not much of the weight. I personally love my moonroof, but if I wanted a "tuner" edition I would want minimal features, light weight and lower price.

i'm gonna have to paint those plastic pieces though (eventually)... they just... err... take away that nice smoothness of it... i know... i had an '05 before... and imo, they look sooo much cleaner.
People aren't saying the really "like" the Spec one... we're just pointing out the target for it. It's NOT meant to be a cheaper tC with less features. It's for a true TUNER who is going to replace most of the items on/in the car anyways - so no point in including them.
And of course they could have knocked off more of the price for what they removed... but like I said, it's not meant to be a "cheaper" or "affordable" version.

Personally I don't care for sun/moon roofs at all. I was thinking of making a fiberglass panel to replace the roof on the tc. I'll have to wait until my "full" 07 comes in to see if that's possible though, I haven't looked at it closely enough.
But if they dont make it reasonably cheaper, you are just being ripped off by buying it. If they took off $3000 worth of mods (just an example) and only gave you $1000 break on it.. what would be the point in buying it? I could just buy the normal tc, take off the stuff and sell the parts on ebay unused and probably do better. I dont think too many will be interested in that deal personally. But you never know.. people buy used tC's for $18k
