So I was driving in a residential neighborhood going 25 mph then all of a sudden crack!! Glass fell and my moonroof deflector just shattered. I looked at it and my god its horrible. I didn't find any object that struck it.

If an object doesnt shatter the wind deflector its covered under warranty right?

I think some of the early 06 models didnt have recall work done on them. I may be wrong. Otherwise this is a very very weird occurence.

I have an 06. Yes I got the recall. Well its simply a piece of laminate.. thats not going to prevent it from shattering... it just prevents glass from falling... which got into my hand and had to cut myself about 5 times to remove the glass

im going after my class tomorrow to bi*** about it.. if they refuse to fix it.. i dont know where im going to go from there... but im going to print out the other topics that include the deflector shattering just to show them this is BS!. I pay for a car and how can such a poor design be released to the public....

Welcome to the Broken Glass Roof club. Membership growing daily. I'm a card-carrying member, too.

If there's no evidence of impact, it should be covered under warranty.

Hope your dealer doesn't give you a hard time when you take your car in. Mine didn't, and pretty much assured me everything was covered under warranty before even inspecting the car. Anyway, if you do run into a hard time, give Scion Customer Care a call. I found them to be pretty attentive to complaints, and their follow-up was excellent.

The all-glass roof design looks great on paper, but they didn't execute it very well.

your most likely NOT going to find what hit it, if anything
had you gotten the deflector recall done??

No point of getting the recall done. It just prevents the glass from falling. It will still shatter regardless

i can tell you that if you opted to NOT get the recall handled, they will most likely
tell you your SOL

it will help prevent it from shattering, but if you have a ginnormous rock or wutever hit it, no amount of laminate will protect it

so if thats the case, your SOL anyways

I think im going to trade my 06 in at the Mazda dealer for either an 3 or 6 series... The tC seems to be poorly designed... hatch rattling, moonroofs exploding, wind deflector shattering, etc. Well I'll go to the dealer to talk about the deflector at around 2:30 PST.

So you got the notice to get the "recall" performed?
And you realize that it prevents the glass from falling into the car and into tons of little pieces?
And you didn't get it performed?
And then your glass broke into tons of little peices and fell into your car?
And you want THEM to do something about it now?

HAHAHAHAHA!

Sure, the laminate wouldn't have prevented it from actually breaking... but from the sounds of your situation it is the ENTIRE REASON they decided to apply the laminate. I'd tell you to take a walk...

It sucks it happened, and I'm sorry if you actually got injured... but seriously. If you didn't get the work done that they recommended, you just might be SOL.

Quit being a smart a** The point is that the deflector is a piece of crap.. My point is that it will shatter no matter what.

Any glass will break if something hits it or there's enough heat stress. And it will NOT shatter "no matter what" ... it may BREAK... but shattering assumes that it's breaking into a lot of tiny pieces and falling all over the place - which the laminate (that you believe is useless to get done) is intended to prevent.

so, can we lock this yet????

For those that have had the recall work done how does the laminate look? how dark is it?

You don't see it. It's applied behind the glass and virtually invisible. But it is there and should do what it is intended to do.

Just got back from the dealer. Told me its under warranty and should be replaced tomorrow. Depending if I'm beat to the part that is at the local warehouse. If I am I will have to wait until next week. They gave me a rental car too as well.
