I think it is just a method to sell cars. I am pretty sure there is not a bunch of people requesting to buy a used vehicle at above market price. THat being said, if you have the time, stop by and see what they are willing to offer. Be prepared with you kbb.com value or some other method.

IMO this is just another method to generate traffic in the store. Similar to "giveaways" and other crap dealerships pull.

Yea, I hear ya. As long as I would not be financing more then what I currently owe on the xB,...the thought of a brand new car does not sound to bad.

Ok, this is just a marketing deal, that is all. They just want you to trade in your box so they can sell some new cars. Repeat, it is nothing spectacular. It is just business as usual. There are no "buy back" events, it's just a sale put on by the dealership. If you are happy with your box, you need to evaluate if it's worth trading.

First: Consider what they are offering you.
Second: Subtract that number from the price you paid for the car. This figure is what you will lose on the transaction.
Third: Divide that figure by the number of months you've owned the car. And include the taxes, because that's money spent too. You can also divide it by the number of miles you've driven, to get a cost per mile. That actually might be a more usefull number.

Now, some lines you are likely to hear if you start to balk:

"Matt, your car is never going to be worth more than it is today."

"Matt, the price of your car is only going to go down in the future while ours is only going to go up."

And they are telling the truth. You seem to drive a lot, and that's always going to be expensive. You really might want to think about trading if you are going to continue putting that many miles on the vehicle.

HOWEVER, if you have payments instead of a title, do not trade if you are negative. Paying interest on taxes and negative equity is one of the worst financial decisions you can do short of throwing money out of your box while flying down the road.

If you are negative, what you need to do is start paying your car down ASAP. With that many mi/year, you need a title on that car.

Go by there, listen to the song and dance, then politely ask for your $100 wal mart card and go blow their money on wash and wax stuff for your box, since it will "never be worth more than it is today"...heheheheh

being a salesman, i've seen it both ways.

since scions are pure price, they cant discount the car in any way.

WITH the mailer, you have a better chance of getting a good trade-in value.

once again, this is just from my experience at my dealership, but if we're low on a certain type of car, the appraisers will put good money on the trade in value...

we ALWAYS are low on scions because everyone wants it, so i dont think it would hurt to see what they can do for you.

good luck to you.

If you fall for this, I'd like to talk to you about the 20 acres I own in a Florida swamp. For sale cheap.

The one thing that I read into that letter is that they want your Scion but it didn't say anything about being able to get a new Scion, only Toyota or used cars. Just my 2 cents.

Also note, it states from their pre-owned vehicles. Meaning they'll sell you a used car.
