Just finished with the base I have to put 1 more layer of glass down on the grill and get it painted...now the vehicle is completely debaged on the exterior...there will be a total of 4 layers:
3 layers of 4oz f/g cloth
1 layer of cloth used to strech over the factory grill to get the shape
the way this is made I can take this piece off and still use the factory grill

I don't understand why you would want to do that? IMO it kinda ruins the look of the grille.

read it again - it's not finished yet, he's got to 'glass it once more then paint it, so this isn't the finished product.
"Just finished with the base I have to put 1 more layer of glass down on the grill and get it painted"
"the way this is made I can take this piece off and still use the factory grill"
one would assume that means he still has the stock piece.
So to quote Randode - don't hate, fabricate! If you don't like it, ____ off and design something that's better in your eyes

xtremeOrange = thanks
The reason for doing this is I don't like the way the front grill looks with the huge ___ logo in the front after its painted it will look really sharp but thats IMHO
yes the stock grill has not been touched so I can replace it when and if I need it for any reason

Alright, well my bad. Just a misunderstanding. I'm sure the finished product will look sweet.

How I made my front grill simple instruction for those that want to know:
You’ll need:
F/g cloth or matting
2” blue painters tape
Aluminum foil
Fiberglass resin
Brushes
Spandex / Lycra
Glue gun or a needle and thread
Dremmel
•Removed the grill
•Put a layer of blue painters tape across the front side of the grill to fill the gaps.
•Wrap the grill with 2 layers of aluminum foil
•With the spandex / Lycra stretch it over the front and secure it in place either by using a hot glue gun or sewing the material together on the backside
•Now for the fiberglass mix up your first batch of resin and spread on the fabric and let set up
•After the first layer is cured get the f/g matting or f/g cloth and start adding layers to the grill I used 4 layers of 4oz f/g cloth…when applying f/g resin dab the brush don’t use strokes
•Let dry
•Once dry and your happy with the thickness take a dremmel or similar tool and sand the excess off

correct me if im wrong, but how can it not be bigger. you are getting the shape from the outside of the grille, plus you are laying multiple layers of mat.
yes you can trim it down, but what im saying it is still bigger, techinically speaking.
please post pics for us all to see.

It looks good. Since the factory has no holes it doesn't hurt anything but I am not sure if I like the flat look better or the actual grille look. Would be nice to have a factory one without the cut out for the Scion emblem as well.

Can you post another pic where your hood is closed. I think it might be cool but I can't tell from that pic. Also from that pic it looks like the color is a bit off.

i would have filled in the top hole as well. i did that on mine, and can still access the hood latch.
maybe you should try that on your next one.
im guessing it only mounts on the lights?

um nope it mounts to the factory locations...remeber i said in previous post that the how to i gave out was vague and very brief i left out alot of things just so people would have to work for it not have it handed to them

do you mean that slot the tab slides into at the bottom of the grill if so then yes the grill uses those to hold it in place also

No offense but I hope you don't run into any trouble installing something and want help from people. Maybe they will just leave out some steps for you and hope you figure it out. Kind of an ___ move.

the steps I left out are little details that will affect the look but nothing else...just because i wrote a how to doesn't mean i have to state every step I did so people could copy me...well sorry but I’m not going to lead the lemmings off the cliff this time people want to do this they can figure it out for themselves…

Thanks, but we dont need your help. especially if you have to steal other peoples mods, cant figure out/ or be creative enough to make somthing up on your own.
Whats a real ___ move is expecting a detail shop or mechanic to tell you step by step how to mod, or fix your car over the phone. Then you dont pay them for it, or appreciate the info they gave you thus far, even though they did all the work, and had to put countless hours into figuring the situation. Thats an ___ move!

What do you think these boards are for? They are for help. If you don't want help then why are you here to boast about your ride? If these boards aren't for help we should just take down the whole tech section above. Everyone should just figure it out for their self.
I know most people come here to ask questions about how to do certain stuff that they are not as knowledgeble on as others are. Personally at this moment I am creating a tutorial on how to install lambo doors for a few people on here. Yea it will probably take them half the time it takes me since I had to struggle through it with no help but big deal. To me this is a community. Almost a family. I think it is fun when other want to copy something you did or come to you for help.
Also asking someone how they did a mod has nothing to do with creativity. It is a technical question not a creativity question.
I guess I view things differently.
PS Im not bashing xBofMNx if it comes across that way.

no no no....I dont want your help. Whos boasting wise guy? He is proud of a modification and seeks respect or admiration from other scionlifers, sheesh.
I seek help on many mods that I have done, ie;
If these boards aren't for help we should just take down the whole tech section above
Are you lost? We are in Drag Coefficient.
Everyone should just figure it out for their self.
As stated in his first post, this is a breif description of the mod. THE REST IS UP TO YOU TO FIGURE OUT YOURSELF.
I am creating a tutorial on how to install lambo doors
Sounds cool, wish ya luck. I think lambo doors on the xB would look badass. Are you fabricating the entire mechanism from scratch? The reason I ask is, I have the seen the entire kit ready to go on ebay and other sites for sale. Now if you are are saying you are going to do a tutorial on the walk through of install and leave ____ out. Thats pretty mean. But if you are going to fabricate the entire mechanism from scratch, give out all the info on how to do it...then I just call that stupid. Why is that stupid? Well any right brained fool would know how to make one, sell em on ebay, and your idea would no longer be your idea.
Yea it will probably take them half the time it takes me since I had to struggle through it with no help but big deal.
Yes, but are you making the entire mechanism yourself? If not...why buy a lambo kit w/ out instructions?
I think it is fun when other want to copy something you did or come to you for help.
I totally agree with you here. The only thing is, he stated in the first post he wanted you to work for it. If you knew him you would understand why. Everything about this mod was divulged to you. You just had to do the planning to make it possible. Obviosly 4 coats of fg all around is going to make it too large to fit....that means some areas get less. Or other get more, or you need add a shim to part of the mold, because of gaps.....Planning....measure twice, cut once.
Also asking someone how they did a mod has nothing to do with creativity. It is a technical question not a creativity question.
Yes its a tech question. The amount of creativity that went into the mod was all xBofmnX. He designed it, fabricated it, shared it with the scionlife community. Let you in on a general discription of how to make it possible. And let you know that is was just that, a general description.
PS Im not bashing xBofMNx if it comes across that way.
Well it did appear that way...but whatever, water under the bridge. Good luck with your doors.
