Hi everyone,

I just purchased a 2005 XB and am wondering whether to get the factory or aftermarket Rostra cruise control. For $25 extra I can get the factory which includes a square rather than a round handle and an LED indicating whether the cruise is engaged. Is factory worth the extra $25? Does anyone know of any drawbacks or advantages of factory vs aftermarket?

factory is aftermarket. . . depending on the dealership they offer the aftermarket one as a dealer option. Do a search I think there have been several subjects like this. THe two cruise controls your are refering to are the old version and the new. . . well if I rememeber that correctly.

 

If you get the "factory" it should be covored with the warrenty. Shouldn't it?

The only cruise control that is specific to the xB is the Rosta. You can get it with a RF unit so the controls are on the steering wheel or stick with the column mount.

 

Has anyone here seen an install for the RF unit? I'm curious to know the advantages and disadvantages of the RF control vs. the stalk-mounted one.

 

I think the controls on the RF unit are easier to use.

That's funny, I bought my ROSTRA cruise control with the RF switch from the only rostra dealer in the country. Go figure.

 

Where did you put the RF control, did it simplify the installation because you aren't drilling the steering cover, and does it work well?
I looked at an xB with cruise control with column switch at Exposed 06, and I am so tall I think the stalk would be too close to my knee.

 

It works great, it's on the steering wheel. The installation is about the same, except you don't drill the column shroud.

 

The RF control box goes on the steering wheel - in the middle I guess? Can you put up a photo of that?

 

here you go not the best pic, but you get the idea. The white is some double sided tape I tried in there, but took it out because it didn't do anything.

 

Maybe they think it will go flying if the airbag deploys.

I wish they had a stalk like the Corolla.

 

argh can't they make any kind of "not hideous looking" cruise control's for us?

 

Maybe because we are on the lowest grade of Toyota's global parts bin.

Which is probably why there isn't a correct stalk with variable delay and rear wiper control.

 

ah we aren't the lowest but we are close to. diahatsu's are the lowest , hino trucks are low , yaris is low , vios is low. many , many other toyota cars are as low or lower than we are.

our wiper stalk is correct just not nice.

 

Question, whats an RF switch and how hard or easy ir it to install the cruise control system?
where can I find it?

 

Yaris replaced the Echo which was the same parts grade as us. We got better versions like C50 v. C150, but they were basically interchangeable parts.

 

we are still higher on the food chain than they are.
