I just spent a few hours working on getting the SPFR dyno results digitized from the fax Jon sent me this afternoon - I have included the original scaned fax if anyone want's to see it (since the colorized version is a digital re-make of the chart), but since it's kinda hard to read online, i spent the time making a color, digitized version for everone to check out.

so here it is, 2 runs:

1 with the SPFR Cat-Back Exhaust system
1 with the Cat-Back and the SPFR Intake

keep in mind also that these numbers are for the prototype versions, eric m. recently swapped out his prototype intake for the production version and said it feels even faster! i'll repost when Jon has a chance to re-dyno with the production model!

I really want this exhaust system. When will it be released?

I WAS TRYING TO RELEASE IT ALREADY BUT RAN INTO SOME OTHER PROJECTS THAT TOOK ME OFF THE EXHUAST. BUT NOW I AM GETTING BACK ON IT SO I MIGHT LET IT OUT AT THANKSGIVING.

thanks,

I had TRD exhaust on my xB and thought that I lost too much bottom end with it. Does your exhaust have good bottom end? Do you have stock exhaust dyno runs to compare with yours? Also, the TRD had a loud inside drone @ freeway speeds, how's yours? If your exhaust is 88 Dbs, what is stock Dbs?

that exhaust will kick some ___...JON...thanks for the intake...and i cant wait for that exhaust...(another happy customer)...

you can see on the chart that the torque is phat with this system, 105+ ft-lbs! (the 2 upper lines are the torque curve) as you can see it pulls stong all the way through the graph

WHEN WE TESTED IT I WAS AROUND 85 DB'S. AS THE STOCK SYSTEM HP MY CAR WAS AROUND 88.7WHP.

wow. almost 15 whp gain just for an intake and exhaust. Just imagine adding headers, net hp gain will be almost as much as a blitz supercharger but a fraction of the cost.

NOT SO TRUE THE PROBLEM WITH THE HEADERS IS GOING FROM BIGGER PIPEING BACK INTO SMALL AND THEN INTO THE BIGGER CAT BACK SYSTEM. WILL CAUSE FUNNY MOTOR SURGE LIKE A BUBBLE MACHINE, WE CAN MAKE A HEADER NO PROBLEM BUT I DON'T WANT THE PROBLEMS. BY THE WAY I AM NOT YEALING I ONLY TYPE IN CAPS

is there a freeway drone @ about 3000 rpm? Is there some type of resonator?

SPFRBOX

NO AT 3000 RPM'S THE EXHAUST IS AT 88DB'S IT IS VERY LOW TONE SOUNDS NICE.

STILL WORKING ON THE PRICE I AM TRYING TO KEEP IT AROUND 350 TO 400 FULL RETAIL, IT IS A MANDRELL BENT PIPEING AND TIG WELDED. WE WILL HAVE SOME PICS UP MAYBE BY TONIGHT.

Well, what if the piping is 2.25 from the header back with high flow Cat and High flow resonator? Will the cure the funny motor surge your talking about?

11-18-2003, 08:25 PM
mmm. 2.25 all the waythrough would work fine. Like a stylis exhaust system! J/K SPFRBOX didn't mean to take the spotlight away.

It's hard to compare without a stock engine as a baseline, but it looks like the Aem intake makes h.p and torque from 2000 rpm and up. This unit makes h.p and torque from 4000- 6000rpm. The fact that the AEM dyno is without a exhaust may make a difference. I would love to see a stock "vs" intake only dyno. This intake must make h.p below 4000, the exhaust probably drowns out the gains so you don't see them on the graph. Overall the combined intake exhaust results seem great.

Is this a Dynojet dyno?

Are there any pictures anywhere of the intake yet, looked but have not found!

YES IT WAS A DYNO JET. IF YOU USE THE ENTER SEARCH TERMS, TYPE SPFR IN THERE YOU WILL FIND THE PICS. LOOK IN THE TOPICS SAN FERNANDO VALLEY MEET AND GREET, AS WELL SPFR INSTALL PICS V 1.0. I DID NOT SEE WHO WAS ASKING IF YOU WANT THE INTAKE UP THERE LET ME KNOW YOU KNOW HOW TO GET AHOLD OF ME...

Are these going to be available for both cars?

If so, I have an xA, and have been waiting for a nice setup to be available.

wow, that intake and exhaust is better then the other ones on the market i bet. Next time you see jon's car....ask to ck the intake...it stays cool and keeps the hot air out.

i'll have my car at the next TSW meet - it's only got the intake installed, and Jon should be there too, his rides got the intake and exhaust :)

if anyone wants a quick ride around the block to see what an xB with just the SPFR intake feels like, just ask! i'm the guy with the blue glowy engine bay ;)

hey you guys, many of you saw me installing the production intake at the last TSW meet, and i have to say that it was more powerful than the prototype piece i had. first of all, it never gets hot. even after 50 miles of continuous driving, the intake is as cold as when the engine was cold, although everything else in the engine is hot. my prototype intake used to heat up pretty good on long drives, and bringing all that hot air in slowed me down a bit. but the production version is actually better than i expected. i think that coupled with the SPFR exhaust it will make the car really fly.

i went for a drive in jon's car, and he has big axis wheels and it still feels very fast. i know we drive slow cars, but with the SPFR intake and exhaust, it will seem like a whole new car. when accelerating, jon was chirping second gear, and even third one time, which i have never seen before, especially on a scion with big heavy wheels installed. very impressive.

and not to step on any competitors toes, but i have heard that a few people have already made the switch from injen and AEM to the SPFR intake, and noticed an improvement. i'd like to see an unbiased comparison to see how much power all these intakes are really making. include the stock intake, EL prototypes, and whatever else is out there to get a good test.

yeah.. a shoot out of intakes and exhaust would be great.

ya i'd love to see and honest to goodness dyno showoff with 1 stock xB and all the different intakes.

do a few dyno pulls stock then put on the AEM, Ingen, SPFR, Blitz Etc.. intakes and do a few runs ans see how the numbers stack up between all the different products.

as for personal feelings i gave a kid a ride in my box at the SFW meet and he thought it felt faster than his xB with AEM intake and TRD Exhaust, he seemed bummed that my box was faster with only Jon's intake...

I had the trd exhaust for a few days..I felt it gave me LESS power then the stck, so I took it off. I also have the AEM and think it's just ok........but I like the fact that it's still warrantied with it on.
