Default Aftermarket H/U and '06 Steering Wheel Controls

I have an Alpine CDA - 9833, awesome head unit that I absolutely adore. I also have an '06 RS2 tC that I'm contemplating putting it in. I am curious if there is any way that the steering wheel volume and track selection controls can still be used with an aftermarket h/u...

link to the h/u is: http://www.tweeter.com/sm-alpine-cda...i-1760732.html

Any info would be appreciated!

try http://www.crutchfield.com. Call them tell your situation and they will tell you the parts you need. Then buy the parts cheaper on ebay.

I'll do that...we'll see if they've got the answer...

2 other questions,

a.) has anyone here pulled this off already?

and

b.) has anyone used those buttons to control options other than volume / track selection?

well, Lex over @ Crutchfield was very informative, also an xB owner and contributor to this site (cool to talk with someone who knows these cars personally), and he suggested this:

http://www.crutchfield.com./S-KMRRRH...SWIX&i=127SWIX

As for buying on eBay, I'm really hesitant about that when it comes to electronics, I'd rather buy those types of items from a reputable authorized dealer.

Tweeter-
pardon my ignorance when it comes to stereo stuff, but what's a W200?

And I never said my RS2 was anything special, I mentioned it simply in case there were potential issues with the "upgraded" stereo. What's up with people on here feeling compelled to talk $hit about the release series cars? I'm happy with what I got and what I paid for it (particularly the seats), why do you feel it's necessary for you to talk $hit? Does it make you feel better about your own car, that you saved $1800 and didn't get some of the options mine came with? I mean seriously, what was the point of throwing that in there?

Hey man ya i did the control thing to my 06 tC ....i just soldered it to the wires and hid it in the back with some ziplocs tieing it down. It isnt as fast as the stock controls, but it gets the job done I had to hide the detector for it above the plastic sliding cover in the car. ...you know the thing above ur headunit. Uhm ill provide some pics ASAP

If someone could post up a picture of how their wires from the PAC-SWI-PS are connected, that'd be awesome. I'm still trying to understand what the heck they're talking about in the instructions regarding what wires to solder/jump.

I didn't think of taking a pic, but it is really easy if you follow directions.

You got your plug which looks like this (this is the smaller white plug):

You only have to worry about pins, 6, 7, and 8.

Pin 6 connects to ground.
Pin 7 connects to the white wire on the PAC
Pin 8 connects to a 150 ohm resistor which then goes to the white wire on the PAC

Then the Red wire on the PAC goes to switched 12+
The Black goes to ground

Thats it for connections, programming it is kinda tricky, but pretty easy once you get a hang of it, and you only need to do it once.

Hope this helps.

No offense taken as long as there was no ill intent. Trust me, I'm still well aware that I'm driving a car that starts off around $16k, I definitely don't front like I'm rollin' in a Lambo by any means. I've had nicer/more expensive cars, and even then I didn't act like my car was far superior to anything others were driving (unless their parents bought it for them, then I might have been a bit of an ___ since I have always bought my own cars).

but you forgot to answer one question...what's the W200 that you mentioned earlier?

I don't own a RS.2 so i can't help out much but first thing first. You need to know if that OEM sub has a built in amp or if it's powered by the head unit or what's the surce of the power. You need to start there before anything, after know you that I or someone here can figure out how to do it.
