bB Concept
This wild machine is available in Japan and we're already wondering when we'll get to see them stateside. Called the bB, it went on sale in Japan in February 2000. Powered by a 1.5-liter inline four and a four-speed automatic trans, the bB is available with front- or all-wheel drive.

Dressed up for SEMA show duty, this box-on-wheels has an updated grille, bumper and front air dam. There's also a rear spoiler, a ground-effects kit and custom "chameleon" paint. This bB showstopper rolls on 19-inch wheels with Pirelli P7000, 215/35R19 tires. To help a little when the road gets curvy, TRD lowering springs and shocks have also been added. The bB is yet another car that we think is unusual and cool. Of course, we don't get the chance to buy it in this country. Maybe someday....

DJ X Trodinaire and I were talking about the 4wd versions of the ist and bB earlier today. I don't see a market for them... With their 108hp motors, no one in is going to play $17k+ for a a 4wd ist or bB. I mean, sure some of you would like a 4wd bB, but that's because you are part of the Scion cult. If they put a bigger/faster/torqueir engine, maybe I'd buy one...but it'd still be hard to justify the pricetag...

It would be nice if they made a low volume high performance model for each errr model. Doing both the xA and xB wouldn't be too hard, and the TRD stuff coming out for the tC should be sweet. Having an AWD, turbo intercooled xA, would sure shut up a lot of Mini S and Beetle Turbo owners, not to mention that this car was never designed to compete with them. If we had high performance models, these cars COULD get very competitive. All they would need would be 220hp, and AWD, which a tuned/blown? XRS motor and the 4WD tranny could provide. Man you could sell em for $24k and I'm sure they would all be sold. If they did that, it would put really put Scion on the map. . . you know like how a lot Subaru's sold aren't Sti's or WRX's, but the models bring up the whole brand. Same with the EVO and the Lancer.

xB may be a bit hard as its body is too tall. but xA is totally capable to be a little speed monster. in fact, even hyundai accent can go to rally, why not xA/ist? there are still rooms in the engine bay, put a supercharge 1.8L engine should not be a big problem.
