Default I need a high flow cat for my Megan Exhaust!

When I had my Megan cat-back exhaust put on, they had to cut behing the stock exhaust and weld the echaust on. I am now going to go with the megan header and megan s-pipe, and I don't want it to be restricted by the stock exhaust cat. Can somebody please help?

replacing it with a non OBD2 cat is also illegal.

you should have just bolt it on yourself and save the OE pipes when needed.

i concur. installation is a snap and would probably take at most 1/2 to an hour if you absolutely do not know what you are doing. just replace o.e.m. for smog test.

If I decide to go with the Megan header and S-pipe, do you think that runnung the stock cat will effect performance?

you will still have restriction, so it will take from your top end and it will probably silence it a bit. other than that you shouldnt have many problems.

I bought a generic Magnaflow round high flow 2.5" cat from e-bay. It worked like a charm. I would also go with a resonator because the car will sound really good then.

I might be better off keeping it on, because it will probably delete some of the rasp from the header.

wow, welded on a bolt on exhaust? haha that sucks. should've done it yourself and would've saved money. it's only 4 bolts, oh well too late now. good luck with this

well if you get a high flow cat make sure it will pass emissions on your car, just becase you have a cat on it, doesn't make it legal. you should go with the header but dont' hack anything up and put your stock one back on for smog, i don't know how strict they are where you live but in cali. if you have a header your are NOT going to pass smog, even a HF cat might not pass because technically you modified the factory emissions system which is a no no.
just remember from now on, never hack up your exhaust system for any reason, thats what bolt-on's are for.

i hacked up my stock midpipe, but thast because i can roll down to a smog shop in pomona, slide the guy a hundred, and he will pass me.. without even looking at the car.

gotta love the ghetto

I live in Indiana, where the laws on emissions are very light. I will probably go with a high flow cat, but don't know what kind to get. Any suggestions?

Thats not a restrictive cat at all, its a secondary cat. The secondary cat doesn't do a lot of work, it just cleans up what the first cat left behind. So its not that restrictive, if you want to be smog legal still;I recomend keeping everything bolt on and try not to weld everything. The most restrictive part in your exhaust system is the Cat on the manifold. Replace it with a header and you will never talk about the secondary cat ever again. Because you will have so much more power after the header is installed. You might even get a rasp too.

i live in maryland. the emissions are tested on obd2 cars by just plugging in a code scanner to the ecu. as long as you have no check engine light and the ecu has enough memory code stored you pass. they take a mirror around the vehicle but you could still get away with just putting in a straight pipe then putting the heat shield from a cat around it to make it look like you have one.

when i do my full exhaust eventually i'm going to put in high flow cats. i'm going to use random technology cats. they make the highest flowing aftermarket cats. i had a magna flow on my truck and i will never by one again. it wasn't on my truck for a year and the guts broke and turned sideways inside the cat. i had to buy another cat again.
