i really wanna get tein coilovers, but im kinda in a pinch right now for loot. plus that was the reason why i got he xb, it is cheap and i wanna keep it cheap. not dumb crazy loot into it.

i was thinking of eibach pro kit. im gonna have 18s on there as well and i dont want there to be any fender gap. will this happen?\

pics if possibblle.

On Monday I lowered my bB with Tein S TECH Lowering springs and I kept my stock shocks. I'm happy, got a good drop without sacraficing the ride, I don't need to angle a lot of bumps, although I have to angle the big ones. I'd take a pic but I had to send my bB to the bodyshop so It'll be a while till I get my car back! I'll get a pic when I get it back.

Practically EVERYBODY is doing that, unless they went for the TRD packaged "deal". I don't know anyone that's replaced the stock shocks with springs...

Im running stock shocks with my Goldline springs. In my opinion, go for the 2" drop. Its perfect.

ive got the stcoks, but i think they have had enough of breing lowered, im now in debate over getting the koni shocks, or spend the cash and get the jic flta2 coilovers, i just dont know if i can justify the cost, maybe if i dig deep enough ill go coilover and get swaybars to boot, oh well time and money i guess

My xB has 18" wheels with 215/35 Toyo tires. Just had the TRD lowering springs put on. Dropped the wheel well gap from 3" down to 2". Doesn't seem to ride any stiffer than stock, which is good. The gap doesn't look that big anymore. My next approach is to put on bigger tires, like maybe 225/35's, which will be almost half an inch taller yet, and put a little more rubber on the road. The 215/35 is a very low profile tire.

The obvious solution would've been to go with springs that lowered it more than the TRDs, like Arospeed or Tein or Eibach. But I didn't want a drop of more than 1.5" because of body parts scraping and the bumpy ride. I put Eibach Pro Kit springs on an SRT-4 I used to own, and that ride was BUMPY.

I have heard that putting springs without replacing the struts/shocks will put strain on the struts/shocks, which will wear out after 1-2 years. Let me know if anyone has experienced that.

yup, pretty much everyone has the stock shocks with the 2" drop. it wont damage the shocks/struts at all, and actuall smooths out the ride quite a bit.

it will. i can deal with putting shocks in it later, but now im trying to cut back.

Cept me, i have about 1 1/2" drop with my Tein H Techs. Got rid of that stiff ride, and dropped it only slightly. The 45 series tire fills in the rest.

Just wait till the shocks/struts die prematurely.

Lowering on stock shocks/struts WILL lessen the life of the shock or strut.

Thats what I'm doin! Now the question is does anyone have TRD Shocks with Tein S Tech Springs? And are they happy?

By the time that happens, you will be able to pick up struts for next to nothing at PepBoys or Autozone.

True... but by the time you continually replace the shocks, you will have spent just as much or more as you would buying good shocks, that would last longer.

I waited over 2 months for my dealer to get the TRD shocks and struts to go with my TRD springs that I already purchased. It was the hardest thing to look at them everyday, knowing that I was waiting for those crucial pieces. But trust me, do it all at once. I cannot believe the difference that it made. You would be retarded to drop it without some sort of shock and strut upgrade.

Are you implying that I is retarded? Cause I is a high school graduate.

Hotchkis Springs (1.6" drop)
Hotchkis Strutbar
18" Motegi MR3s on 225/40/18
Stock Struts/Shocks

The ride is almost Cadillac-like. Nice and smooth! If the struts/shocks blow, I'll know it. Then it's TRD time. Why replace them now? They're still good!

I want to drop my box, but the thing is I live in NY and I worry about how it will get around in the snow . Any has a drop box that has been in a winter?

I have my box dropped on Tein S-Techs with stock struts/shocks, and I have had no problems at all. And no, we are not retarded for doing so, as Curious George 238 said. I think he's ____ed that he spent all that money at the dealership for the suspension set up, only to have a one inch drop that really doesnt require any upgraded struts/shocks.

tutorial needed. who can write a tutorial that will explain this -mere assertion- (see above) that lower springs reduce the service life of stock shocks and stock struts.

Who can tell us HOW and WHY this is?

don't beleive unsupported assertions or pass on hearsay. It may all be true bvt, uh, .... let's see the money

thanks!

I have Tanabe df210's with stock shocks and struts. 215/35/18 made a huge difference with the wheel gap, but now I kinda wish I went with 19 inch rims. My 18's look kinda small to me after seeing some other peoples rides with 19's and 20's.

IMO, anything over 18's are too much. All you do at that point is sacrifice ride comfort and increase the risk of blow outs, damaged rims, etc. Again, thats just my 2 cents. I went from 17's to 16's, and love it, so Its all in what you like. But dont think your 18's are small, they look fine. :)

I lowered mine with Goldline and the ride is perfect with the stock shocks. If i had the stock rims and tires on it, it would have ridden better than stock in my opinion. They manufacturer the springs to accomadate the stock shocks. IF my shocks ever blow out i will opt to buy the tokico's or maybe the trd shocks. But thats if, I doubt it will happen. I never scrape on anything and its a little over 2 inches lower than stock with 18 inch rims.

I wrote to GoldLine and asked them about the OEM shocks and struts. Here's the response I got:

Gold Line (along with most other spring companies) design their product to
work with factory shocks/struts. Not to say that overall ride/handling
quality cant be improved by going to an aftermarket shock/strut.

I'd rather use up the OEms and then replace them than have a nice set of unused OEMs sitting on the shelf and be that much closer to replacing the aftermarket ones...

I have a set of hotchkis springs that i won and they even recommend using the stock shocks. I haven't had any problems in the 4000 miles they've been on.

how much do the springs cost to install?

cursedpumpkin

Goldline springs cost me $135 before taxes at a local honda dealership. I installed them myself. Most places charge $50 for installation.

I used DF210s, and will replace the shocks with aftermarket units as soon as Koni puts them on the market. So, the early demise of OEM shocks scares me not.

I live in southern california... so i cant really put my input as in driving around the snow since i havent seen snow in around 3 years or so. What i can say is you can have your car seasonal.. Have your car stock during the winter and lowered with rims during the other seasons that has nice enough weather to allow to drive it. It really does not take long at all to lower it or put it back to stock. 15 min. in the back and maybe 1 hour in the front. Just keep the stock springs and rims so you can do this. It will kind of be like a bear... Hibernating during the winter and runing picking fish out of the water and ripping peoples heads off during the summer!!

koni makes shocks for the echo that WILL work for the xA/xB

tokico would be nice but they are too expensive....koni would be good too anyone know the price range....if too expensive i might just stick with trd's
