Default BLOWN!!!!! (as in RIP) xb motor

i just blew my motor this weekend and it was caused by a bent(twisted) piston rod bashing a hole in the side wall of my block. they (TOYOTA OF CARLSBAD) took the oil pan down and said that it was because i was over reving it!!!! WTF?? this is a commuter car, i bought it as a commuter car, and i was commuting when it happened!! i had driven 30 miles at like 80MPH and then poof. Well if any of you have read about this in other forums that i cant seem to find let me know i need all the evidance i can gather. thanks agian!!!!!!!!!

FYI: 40,000 miles on the car, the car is stock, i have done more than regular matinance, and i called several random mechanics and they all say that it sounds like a headgasket leaked into the cylender....but not TOYOTA!!!!

Good Luck! You should get a new motor. Look at that guy that "purposely drove through deep water". They fixed his even though it was clearly driver error. He got new motor from his own neglect.

So apparently quality control at Toyota's manufacturing plant is the only one in the world with no imperfection?

well i went to Toyota today and talked to the service director...OOOOO, and he gave me the number of some toyota customer relations line, saying that they might get the DSMP (the person who said i over reved my engine) to take another look and perhaps pay for some of the labor. it seems like i'm playing pin the tail on the donkey. oh well. I really hope this works out... I REALLY CANT AFFORD AN ENGINE!!!

if i were you.. i would walk in and kick the DSMP in the nuts and walk out..

then come back later and do it again...

then maybe again...

then come in the next day and yell your @$$ off until they do what you want... it always works with my dealer..

hey man, i had almost the same thing happen to mine. they thought they were going to have to replace the whole engine but then they said that it was some faulty valve i think (its late...i can't think right now). luckily for me the dealership took care of everything for me. took care of the tow bill, the rental car (even if it was just a crappy carolla). They had the car almost 2 weeks i think but they eventually got it fixed. thats ridiculous that they are blaming you for it. but yeah if they try making you pay for it i'd suggest going as far up on the chain of command as you can and raise hell. tell them your going to get on scionlife and talk about how bad their service is, that might get them going

Your car shuts down before you get to the redline. What did they base this scientific finding on that you over revved the engine. Exactly what RPM blows the engine?? You need to demand an arbitrator if it comes to that................

Assuming the ECU could allow the engine to "over-rev", I don't see how that bend a connecting rod. There is no unusual force in "over-revving" to do the bending.
Has your car ever had a cold air intake? A more plausible scenario is that a little hydrolock bent the rod and it later failed under normal high rpm.

That sounds almost as awesome as Dodge telling my buddy his doorlocks weren't working because he had too many TV monitors/amps/ and replaced the radio, they then refused to look at it and when they did, they just hit the button and was like works fine. My buddy was like I can fix this, and took his door apart, seems that the lock rod and the handle rod were hitting each other preventing it from locking properly... Electrical problem huh?

Request it back from them, and take it too another dealer, then call Scion and complain about the customer service. These cars were made to be modified, so they can't just claim abuse without probable cause.

They got used motors with low miles for 5-9 hundred dollars on www.car-parts.com .
