Default New Megan OEM style exhaust gets a Big THUMBS DOWN from me

Before i start i want to say that the rest of my exhaust is stock as far as Header/S-pipe and i am not running an intake. Also the bends and welds on the Megan are very nice and there was ZERO fitment issues...
So anyway I just installed the Megan Racing OEM style exhuast on my TC (axleback+midpipes), fired it up, checked for leaks....none. Immediately i was a little deterred by the idle, which sounded stock. I rolled the car off my drive way and unloaded it down the road...same deal. maybe 5-10% deeper at WOT. All 3 of my roomates agree. So then I checked for leaks again, none.
Thought maybe it needed a few miles on exhaust for the sound to change. Drove it for about 15-20 minutes 10 of those on the freeway, no change, it did smoke a lot, but thats normal with a new exhaust.

I cant comment on any performance changes yet as i was mainly listening at the tone.

Sorry if im coming off like an @$$ but for f##K sake my buddy's TRD exhaust is louder and deeper

Arghh looks like i need to start looking for a Header / S-pipe / $$$ combo

If you wanted it load, you shouldn't be looking for something like that. Perhaps an Apexi custom set up or HKS exhaust.

not a big fan of the coffee can look, i wanted oem look and didnt want to go trd (overpriced). i thought this would be a great alternative and the color of the tip would compliment by RS2 color (which it does) The first review from the guy who installed it on the CF tC was very misleading IMO

He said g35ish sound.....maybe if the G was only running on 3 cylinders

Wow, so it actually might sound good with a header & s-pipe.

Did you notice a power increase at all yet?

Did you hear sound clips of it before? Because when I read a name of the exhaust with the word OEM in it, thats what you are going to get. Something close or similar to OEM.

OEM style, no where dit it say OEM sound, thats crazy

this is what i read

"Looks
The pictures speak for themselves, the titanium tip is beautiful. The full piping is nice and shinny, and best of all the fit is perfect (As those who know me via my fitment problems with other products).

Fit
The best thing about it becides the looks is the fact that the catback pipe connects in a stock manner. Thus when you want to switch back to your stock muffler it is simply an unbolt.

Sound
In terms of tone, this thing is G35ish deep. I have heard first hand the TRD, HKS, etc in person and this is the best. Deep, low, and no rasp"

g35ish deep is a ridiculous claim

OEM is still OEM, our system is quiet too; but would never put OEM in the title because that would be too confusing.

Where all these positive remarks about the exhaust from the company or people here on the boards?

sorry man but i completely disagree with your claim
when people read OEM style megan racing exhaust. They are not thinking .."OEM look with OEM sound" They are thinking OEM look (no can) with a mean tone and sound. You pay $450 for an exhuast thats going to sound nice and mean with little rasp, especially from a brand like Megan Racing.
I know you are a sponsor so you may have a little bias, but think from an average joe point of view.

If its that quiet than thats quieter than the PrecisionMuffler.com axle back. Ours is quieter than the TRD, but still makes some sound. The plus side here is that with this quiet axle back you can now get a header without having to worry about rasp.

I am about the customer being happy. If my own neighbor wanted a muffler from another company, who am I to hold a grudge? If Megan made the claim,"G35 sound" you can be mad at them. If you heard the claim from the boards, you can't be mad at them. You made the choice yourself. Trying to see where you got lost in the claim thats all. No hate here. :D

exactly, the quieter the muffler, the better it will handle rasp with a header. You might be complaining now, but when you install a header you will not be complaining. :D

I hold no grudge against megan racing, i have a feeling they put this set up together to help people running headers and s-pipes to help with the whole rasp situation. i do hold some frustration towards "aznchild" the original reviewer who blatently mislead me and many others and any sponsors who quoted him.
down the road ill get a nice header / s-pipe system going with an intake and maybe ill be singin a different tune but for now im just giving a honest review of how a stock car running no other performance mods sounds with this set up. Just doing this to help other people in my shoes.
