As you may or may not already know, the Monterey Historic Automobile Races at Laguna Seca are quickly approaching. Toyota is the new presenting sponsor for this event and they are pulling out all the stops to make this year the most spectacular event to date. The agency I am with, RWB, is handling the entire event on Toyota’s behalf.
Toyota has one of the most loyal followings of any brand in the world, and they want all those people, you, to come out and learn more about Toyota heritage, and simply enjoy an action packed weekend around the most beautiful and exotic cars in the world. Toyota will be displaying several historic and modern day racecars, as well as an on track performance by F1 pilot Ricardo Zonta in the current Toyota Formula One car, it will be nothing short of spectacular. There will be on track races throughout the day and a no shortage of all things automotive to be involved in.
Toyota has made it very clear to us they want all Toyota, Scion, and Lexus club members at the event. There will be a special parking lot reserved just for Club Members and a few all access credentials enabling the winners to hang in the Toyota suite and mingle with various Toyota personalities, such as Ivan “Ironman” Stewart, Ricardo Zonta, Juan Fangio, and many more. To win these credentials please:
•Writing - tell me a wild and crazy Scion experience in a 100 words or less.
•Photo – do a creative rendition of the “I love what you do for me, Toyota” with your Scion in the background.
Please send all responses to montereyhistoric@yahoo.com
We are also looking for enthusiasts to work inside the Toyota tent to help out with the cars and answer questions. We are paying $18/hour and it’s a 3 day event.

Ok people this is going to be HUGE!!! I've been on the phone with John ( original poster on this thread) And the more attendance we can get at this meet the better. I'll have much more detailed info to follow, but Saturday August 19th, is the day to go if we're going to make a concerted effort to show in large groups. This will also be re-posted in as many other Toyota/ Lexus group websites as possible. Toyota is looking to get as many car group/clubs there as possible.
Yes I understand that the date does conflict with the LA HIN, however, I know not everyone will be attending HIN in LA, as most NorCal'ers are going to the SF one. So this will still be a great meet to have, AND to watch some really awesome cars race at Laguna! I know I want to see an F1 car out there trying to beat the track record.
Anyone interested, wanting more details see me tomorrow at Capitol Toyota, or Sunday at the JDM Theory event in Fremont.

Hi guys, I'm still working on things. Sorry, been a little busy between work, car shows and a wedding I'm working at today. No club affiliation needed to come as Trung mentioned. just come on down. The entrance fee ( and this is per Laguna Seca and the Historical Car Race annual event is $65 for Saturday's attendance. I am working with John to get everyone who comes with a flyer or some other such thing a discount on the entrance fee. More info will come in the next week. Like I said I'm kind of swamped this weekend. lol

I've been to the historics probably about 10 times in the past 25 years. It's a great event!! Pits are open and you can see everything up close. I took my brand new XB last year.
I'm soooo bummed, I have Tower of Power tickets for that weekend!

Ok people, I don't want you forgetting about this event, because this IS going to happen, and Toyota definitely wants a Scion presence there!! I've been talking all week with John, and there have been things in the works for discounts for us to go (since this is not an actual toyota event but sponsored by Toyota there is an entrance fee) however, John has managed to work a simply AMAZING deal for cars to go, and show. I will have more information tomorrow night.
For now, those people interested in working the event here is the info you need:

I'm going to work on getting a room down there for the entire weekend, may even take that Friday off. I would love to help and work the event too, but we'll see how things go. This is simply fantastic, and even though it's not our little imports running around the track that weekend, it's still an event that shouldn't be missed! These historics are truly a sight to see!!

07-20-2006, 04:51 AM
I've been many times. This is the most prestegious car weekend in the country. You also have the Qvale show and the mother of all shows, The Concours at Pebble beach. These shows are NOT CHEAP. (Over $100 a ticket)
But the races are afforadable and you actually see one of a kind , history filled multi million dollar race cars, at speed. Pits are open and everyone is very friendly. You will see people. i saw Bobby Rahal last year.
You're not going to get a motel room anywhere near Monterey this close to the event. Your best bet is Santa Cruz if you hurry. Next would be probably Gilroy, then San Jose.
Check out this months Road & Track.
I can't believe there will be Scion parking this year. And I can't make it!!! :tap:

I know... I had the pleasure and priviledge of going to a Concourse d'Elegance about a decade ago and I still remember all the gorgeous cars I saw that day. Even saw the Concourse Italiana that weekend. Still have pictures laying around in a box somewhere. Can only hope I can afford to go again someday.

Ok people here is the skinny as it stands thus far:
Toyota has purchased a large number of FULL WEEKEND PASSES for our use, and we get them at an EXTREMELY discounted price of only $20 for the whole weekend! Now I know most people may not be able to go for the whole weekend, but it is still good for the Saturday August 19th, that we want to make our presence at!
The gates open at 7:30 but as long as we can roll in and park between 9 and 10am, we're golden. We have guaranteed car corrall parking for at least 100 cars, and if we can get more than that well... John said and I quote "We'll just make it work!" Toyota is extremely pleased that Scion is showing an interest in this event. So the more cars/car clubs we can get to go and enjoy the races as well as the car paddocks and people that will be there it just looks great! There are going to be TONS of vendors there, things for everyone to do, and well of course the historical cars are a draw on their own.
So I'm going to start up a Roll Call List of people who want to go. Remember that the $20 price for the whole weekend pass is LOCKED IN!!!
Let me also just say that I want to see EVERYONE who is interested and can go, to be tehre. This is regardless of Car club affiliation! I would love to see SE and Scikotics and Scion Society and NVS and Most Hated and everyone else just rock this event! ( My apologies to car club names I forgot to mention)
So count up, and lets see who wants to enjoy an awesome day in Monterey!! ( Of course I'll be going out to dinner afterwards, so we can all caravan somewhere!)

EvilScionBabe
07-22-2006, 01:05 AM
Well if you're driving a Scion, it will be parked with the other Scions in the guaranteed car club corral. Do your buddies drive Scions as well? If they don't they'll have to park in the regular parking sections. As for how many we can get, I'll verify that tonight. Haven't been in contact with John yet today, playing phone tag. lol

I'm wondering the same thing. Can we get passes at that $20 price for friends as well? They'd be riding with me, so its not like they'd be parking somewhere else. Thanks!
Hi everyone and thanks to the marvelous EvilScionBabe for all her help. The idea is to gather as many Scions and Toyota's as possible in the Car Corral. The price incentive is for Scion/Toyota owners who are bringing their cars. Perhpas you can use this venue to organize a meet of some sort. Talk about a great venue....surrounded by the worlds most beautiful cars...at a racetrack....please!! We are planning on taking a picture on Saturday which will be framed and mailed to all the Toyota and Scion heads, including the president of Toyota Motor Corp in Japan. Let me know what else I can do to help. The credentials will be handled via mail and will need to be paid for by August 9th.

My wife and I are interested in going. I will have to check our schedule before I can make a firm commitment though. Is the $20 entry fee "per vehicle" as are most car shows, or is it "per person." Either way it is a good deal. Just need to know so the wife and I can work it out.

Hey there, glad to see 2 more in! This is awesome.. I knew as we got closer more people would come out of the woodworks.
As for the price question, what I've been instructed thus far is that it is $20/per person asn long as those people are driving Scions/Toyotas... if you have a bunch of friends coming down with you in other cars, then I'm sorry to say the price is full price. (Which I think is $65 for Saturday, but I will check that right now.)

Quinn you rock! Hey all...please feel free to contact me at my work email....johnk@rwb-llc.com
We've got some serious momentum rolling. I have spoke to Toyota and they will be doing something special for all people with cars there to show their appreciation. Yes, something tangible and it's for your CAR!! You are going to have to wait and see though.
I don't know how many of you are Formula One fans, but if you aren't now, you will be when you leave. It is simply jaw dropping and you will get the chills I promise you. There will media of all sorts there covering this, moreso than other years as this is year Toyota is pulling out all the stops. You will all have the opportunity to see the Formula One car up close and check it out. There is only one formula one race in the US each year (Indy) and at those races you are not able to see the car up close. You will be able to walk right up next to it when it fires up.
I am also working on a Scion drift program, although no drifting this year at this event. Well, that's all for now.
Thanks again Quinn and everyone else who is going to make this event...."The Event"

07-31-2006, 09:24 PM
OK... My wife and I are in. I need to get some specific answers though. Whether from John or Scionbabe.
1. Does the $20 price apply to all in the car, or just the driver? It will be my wife and I, as well as her sister and brother in law in the xB.
2. It was said that we do not have to belong to a Scion club. Do we just say that we are in a car club so that we are directed to the car corral at the entrance?
3. When / where do we get the $20 tickets? Will it be at the gate, or ahead of time?
4. Any plans at this point to roll in together on Saturday? We should plan on meeting somewhere in Monterey, or Seaside. It would really send a good message to have a whole crew of Scions (club affiliated or not) rolling down the 68 together, and into the show as a group.
Anyway, at the very least count myself (S/N - RTon20s real name - Dustin) and my wife in.
johnnykendall
08-01-2006, 05:31 AM
Glad you are going to make it!
1. The $20 discount is for the driver and 1 passenger....$20 each
2. You do not have to officially be in a Scion club
3. You need to mail a check payable to:
RWB LLC
Attn: John Kendall
3000 Ocean Park Blvd. Suite 1070
Santa Monica, CA 90405
(310) 396-8800 x 228
Once we have received your payment we will add you to the list. There will be a registration booth at the Hyatt Regency Monterey all day Friday and Saturday of race weekend (Aug. 18 and 19). The registration booth will be adjacent to the hotel entrance at the convention center entrance and will be labeled "Toyota". We will issue your credentials and Car Corral parking pass here.
Hyatt Regency Monterey
1 Old Golf Course Road,
Monterey, California, USA 93940-4908
Tel: 831 372 1234
4. This would be a good meeting place and I agree it would be a nice effect to roll together. Once you are the gate entrance, tell them you need to go to the Car Corral and chow them your pass. They will guide in from here.
Please let me know if you have any more questions and I will do my best to answer them as quickly as possible.

So now I guess we need to get planning for a meet time on Saturday morning. It looks like the Hyatt there in Monterey will be as good a spot as any for us to meet. Just like John said.
Maybe we can even plan a little mini-meet for Friday night so everyone can hang out and get to know each other. There has to be a decent parking lot somewhere in Monterey, Seaside, or Sand City that isn't going to be over run by the thousands of other car enthusiasts. :)

Also, please include the following: name, address, year/model/mileage of Scion, names of each person you are writing the check for, number of parking passes needed,a nd anything else you think I should know.
As far as being able to get a ride around the track....I like the way you're thinking but that's a very tall order. As a kid I used to wait until the end of the day and sneak on with a pit-bike and get chased knowing I was too young to get arrested. Following is a template letter I just wrote and thought I would post it. I'm sorry that hotels are such a problem.
Monterey Historic Registration Information
Dear Car Clubs,
Following is more detailed information on the registration process for the Monterey Historic Races at Laguna Seca. Time is running out so please get your money in if you haven’t already!
Weekend ticket prices are normally $125 each, but for car club members and Toyota/Scion/Lexus owners, it is only $20…and it includes a special Car Corral parking pass!! This incentive was put into place in an effort to get owners to come out with their vehicles and show support for Toyota. In order to receive this special $20 rate, you must drive your Toyota/Scion/Lexus to the event. You will also have the best parking of anyone at the event – and it’s free. There is a limit to two(2) tickets, at this price, per vehicle. In order to secure your spot in the Car Corral please make your check payable to RWB LLC and send to:
RWB LLC
Attn: John Kendall
3000 Ocean Park Blvd. Suite 1070
Santa Monica, CA 90405
Include:
• Payment
• Names of attendees
• Email
• Year/make/model/mileage
• # of parking passes
I must receive all payments no later than August 9th!!
On Friday August 11th I will send out a confirmation email.
Due to the overwhelming response, we have decided to not mail out the credentials to each person individually for logistical reasons. Instead we will have a registration booth at the Hyatt Regency Monterey to pick up your credentials. The “Toyota” booth will be setup in front of the Hyatt convention center which is directly to the right of the hotel main entrance. I got a room at the Motel6 in Gilroy for Friday & Saturday nights a couple of days ago for $56/ night. That's as close as I could get. I've usually stayed in Santa Cruz, but it's too late for that. Not the best digs, but this late a room is a room. They may have some left.
To the newcomers to this event, it will blow you away with the exotic cars everywhere. This event is the top auto weekend in the country. Look in motel parking lots as you get closer to Monterey and you will see what I mean.
We have tickets for a concert on Friday night (in Oroville!) and will be driving down directly after. So no Friday meet for us. We'll be lucky if we get 4 hrs sleep!
My plan is to pick up the tickets right at 8:00 at the Hyatt on Saturday and head directly to the track. The earlier the better for walking in the pits and looking at everything up close. If anyone wants to caravan to the track at that time, I'll be there.

Well we still aren't 100% sure where we are going to stay yet. We have family in Salinas and friends in Hollister. Both say they would be glad to have us, but may be out of town that weekend. How convenient, right? :) Seriously though, even if we don't stay with one of them there are still rooms in Gilroy.
And I'll know exactly how you are feeling that weekend losmorob. We are supposed to be having a new cat-back exhaust for the xB prototyped on the wife's car next week. Dropping it off Monday and picking it up Friday. If that is the case I will be leaving early Friday from Fresno, driving down to the 909 (East of LA) picking up the wife's car and then driving back to Fresno to pick up the wife. From there we will head over to Monterey. Should make for one LONG day. Hopefully we can make the meet up on Friday night though. 13.5 hours on the road in one day just to make it to the meet up. And then we'll have to drive back to Gilroy for the hotel if that is where we stay.
It should be a blast! :)

oh crap!!!! i forgot too. i'll mail them out today!!! hope it gets there in time.
A quick note to say a big THANK YOU to all of you...and an extra special thanks to Quinn for her all of her positive energy and help!
I am leaving for Monterey on Sunday. If there is anyone who has not sent there money but is still planning on going, please send me an email to... johnk@rwb-llc.com no later than WEDNESDAY AUGUST 16th!!! I will then have your name added to the list at the Hyatt and you will have to pay cash. This was originally not going to happen but many people for one reason or another were unable to get their money in on time. Don't forget to provide me with: # of people/parking passes/vehicle info...etc...in the email so that you will be able to receive the special gift from Toyota.
I will be sending out an email in a few days to all people attending with final details/thoughts.
The Speed Channel and various other media will be there so make sure your cars are sparkling. I think the Toyota/Scion crew might be the largest one there!!!
See you soon.

A couple of links for you all! This thing is going to blow your minds. There are 2 days for people to register via email and then pay cash at the Hyatt. Be sure to read the first one for sure.
F1’s latest generation of 2.4-liter V8s kick out over 700hp, and rev to an incredible, sense-shattering 20,000rpm.
will that fit in my tC? :silly:

Ok people back on topic here!!! Only 2 more days until the start of this truly amazing weekend!!! (That would be Friday) As John had mentioned there will be a small amount of CASH ONLY tickets available at registration at the Hyatt. If you HAVE NOT sent your money in by now make sure you bring CASH to pay for your tickets in!! Also it would be an extremely good idea to email John to let him know how many of these tickets should be set aside for you slackers. hehehehehe It's soooo close I can't wait!!

OMG It's Ashley!!!!!! Hey there darlin, we will be posting up the drive down route tomorrow. I believe you guys would probably be best off to meet us at Home Depot where you met us before for the last Monterey drive. That will be our 2nd pick up stop. Again Tim or I will have the roll out details for you tomorrow. We actually managed to get a hotel room in Monterey tonight. So we also have floor space for people to crash on Saturday night.

Same questions as Bobby_Lee and Hiperchik.
I work until noon on Friday and will probably be leaving Fresno no later than 2:00. We'll head straight over to pick up our parking passes. We will be staying with friends in Hollister, so we need to know a.s.a.p. if there will be a meet up on Friday night. Don't want to go all the way to Hollister after we get the passes just to head back over to meet up.
Also, when will the "roll-in" route be posted up? I know the Home Depot you mentioned EvilScionBabe. Where else will you have as meeting points, and at what times? As I said, we will be rolling in from Hollister, so we will have to pick one of the meeting points and times.
Also, if anyone would be kind enough to email me this information I would very much appreciate it. I will not be able to get to scionlife tomorrow. We will be headed down to Riverside to pick up the wife's xB. It will be freshly equipped with a brand new cat-back exhaust system soon to be available for the xB. You all will be the first to get to check it out at the Monterey show.

I'm spending the night in Gilroy and would like to roll with the group. We were planning to leave Gilroy about 6:15 to get to Monterey early to be at the Hilton to pick up passes by 7:00AM.
How early is everybody (or anybody) heading down?

So does anybody have an official "roll-in" schedule? We will be leaving Fresno this afternoon, and won't have email access after that. We will be going to get our passes on this afternoon, and then staying in Hollister with friends tonight. If there is a get together tonight in Monterey or Seaside we would like to be there.
Losmorob, if you would like to meet up Sat. morning on the way in, let me know. There is a gas station on Old San Juan road where 156 and 101 merge. We could meet there at a specific time and then roll in to Monterey together from there. Hopefully we could find out where the rest of the roll in will meet up at as well.
I am also interested in finding a decent pay and spray carwash somewhere near Monterey as well. After driving all the way from Fresno (not to mention the trip to Riverside this week) our car is going to need more than a detailing touch up.
If anyone can get me any of this information, I would greatly appreciate it. You can reach me on my cell anytime after noon today at (five five nine) three zero zero - six five nine nine. Or send an email to rton20s@yahoo.com.

Ok we just got home, and I'm too damned tired to say much right now. What I would like to say is how grateful I am to John Kendall and Toyota for making this such an amazing event. I've been to the races in the past but I can say I have NEVER had as much fun as I did this weekend. Not only were the cars truly beautiful to behold, but the weekend was truly special for Kelsey who celebrated her birthday there with us. She is so happy that she got an autograph from Ricardo that she couldn't sit still most of the way home. We were extremely well taken care of this weekend. I cannot express enough thanks to the people who worked the event for all their hospitality ( Way to go Michelle and Trung!!!) I can only wait for next year!!! For those who did not go, I'm very sad you did not get to take part in this, but there is next year!

The best part of the event was the parking area, especially with the fellow Scion/Toyota peeps there as well.
I've been to this event for many years and the general admission parking is so far away, you can't see the track or any of the vendors, etc... It's a 10 min hike just to get to the event. It was so nice to be right in the middle of it all. THANK YOU TOYOTA/SCION!!
Most car shows are park your car and set up a chair. This is right up there with Scionnight. There is so much to see and do.
Next year, DON'T MISS IT!
Next year, Toyota races Nascar (see below). This was in the Toyota display.
