Toyota wants you at the Monterey Historic Races
Dear Scion Owners and Enthusiasts,
As you may or may not already know, the Monterey Historic Automobile Races at Laguna Seca are quickly approaching. Toyota is the new presenting sponsor for this event and they are pulling out all the stops to make this year the most spectacular event to date. The agency I am with, RWB, is handling the entire event on Toyota’s behalf.
Toyota has one of the most loyal followings of any brand in the world, and they want all those people, you, to come out and learn more about Toyota heritage, and simply enjoy an action packed weekend around the most beautiful and exotic cars in the world. Toyota will be displaying several historic and modern day racecars, as well as an on track performance by F1 pilot Ricardo Zonta in the current Toyota Formula One car, it will be nothing short of spectacular. There will be on track races throughout the day and a no shortage of all things automotive to be involved in.
Toyota has made it very clear to us they want all Toyota, Scion, and Lexus club members at the event. There will be a special parking lot reserved just for Club Members and a few all access credentials enabling the winners to hang in the Toyota suite and mingle with various Toyota personalities, such as Ivan “Ironman” Stewart, Ricardo Zonta, Juan Fangio, and many more. To win these credentials please:
•Writing - tell me a wild and crazy Scion experience in a 100 words or less.
•Photo – do a creative rendition of the “I love what you do for me, Toyota” with your Scion in the background.
Please send all responses to montereyhistoric@yahoo.com
We are also looking for enthusiasts to work inside the Toyota tent to help out with the cars and answer questions. We are paying $18/hour and it’s a 3 day event.
Best Regards,
John Kendall

also.. i can help. i LOVE helping.
Ok people this is going to be HUGE!!! I've been on the phone with John ( original poster on this thread) And the more attendance we can get at this meet the better. I'll have much more detailed info to follow, but Saturday August 19th, is the day to go if we're going to make a concerted effort to show in large groups. This will also be re-posted in as many other Toyota/ Lexus group websites as possible. Toyota is looking to get as many car group/clubs there as possible.
Yes I understand that the date does conflict with the LA HIN, however, I know not everyone will be attending HIN in LA, as most NorCal'ers are going to the SF one. So this will still be a great meet to have, AND to watch some really awesome cars race at Laguna! I know I want to see an F1 car out there trying to beat the track record.
Anyone interested, wanting more details see me tomorrow at Capitol Toyota, or Sunday at the JDM Theory event in Fremont.

Hi guys, I'm still working on things. Sorry, been a little busy between work, car shows and a wedding I'm working at today. No club affiliation needed to come as Trung mentioned. just come on down. The entrance fee ( and this is per Laguna Seca and the Historical Car Race annual event is $65 for Saturday's attendance. I am working with John to get everyone who comes with a flyer or some other such thing a discount on the entrance fee. More info will come in the next week. Like I said I'm kind of swamped this weekend. lol
I've been to the historics probably about 10 times in the past 25 years. It's a great event!! Pits are open and you can see everything up close. I took my brand new XB last year.
I'm soooo bummed, I have Tower of Power tickets for that weekend!

{edit by squall} fixed your picture for ya

Ok people, I don't want you forgetting about this event, because this IS going to happen, and Toyota definitely wants a Scion presence there!! I've been talking all week with John, and there have been things in the works for discounts for us to go (since this is not an actual toyota event but sponsored by Toyota there is an entrance fee) however, John has managed to work a simply AMAZING deal for cars to go, and show. I will have more information tomorrow night.

I'm going to work on getting a room down there for the entire weekend, may even take that Friday off. I would love to help and work the event too, but we'll see how things go. This is simply fantastic, and even though it's not our little imports running around the track that weekend, it's still an event that shouldn't be missed! These historics are truly a sight to see!!
I've been many times. This is the most prestegious car weekend in the country. You also have the Qvale show and the mother of all shows, The Concours at Pebble beach. These shows are NOT CHEAP. (Over $100 a ticket)
But the races are afforadable and you actually see one of a kind , history filled multi million dollar race cars, at speed. Pits are open and everyone is very friendly. You will see people. i saw Bobby Rahal last year.
You're not going to get a motel room anywhere near Monterey this close to the event. Your best bet is Santa Cruz if you hurry. Next would be probably Gilroy, then San Jose.
Check out this months Road & Track.
I can't believe there will be Scion parking this year. And I can't make it!!!

I know... I had the pleasure and priviledge of going to a Concourse d'Elegance about a decade ago and I still remember all the gorgeous cars I saw that day. Even saw the Concourse Italiana that weekend. Still have pictures laying around in a box somewhere. Can only hope I can afford to go again someday.
Ok people here is the skinny as it stands thus far:
Toyota has purchased a large number of FULL WEEKEND PASSES for our use, and we get them at an EXTREMELY discounted price of only $20 for the whole weekend! Now I know most people may not be able to go for the whole weekend, but it is still good for the Saturday August 19th, that we want to make our presence at!
The gates open at 7:30 but as long as we can roll in and park between 9 and 10am, we're golden. We have guaranteed car corrall parking for at least 100 cars, and if we can get more than that well... John said and I quote "We'll just make it work!" Toyota is extremely pleased that Scion is showing an interest in this event. So the more cars/car clubs we can get to go and enjoy the races as well as the car paddocks and people that will be there it just looks great! There are going to be TONS of vendors there, things for everyone to do, and well of course the historical cars are a draw on their own.
So I'm going to start up a Roll Call List of people who want to go. Remember that the $20 price for the whole weekend pass is LOCKED IN!!!
Let me also just say that I want to see EVERYONE who is interested and can go, to be tehre. This is regardless of Car club affiliation! I would love to see SE and Scikotics and Scion Society and NVS and Most Hated and everyone else just rock this event! ( My apologies to car club names I forgot to mention)
