Default Haggle with the price of tax?

I'm curious to see if anyone has haggled their way to a lower price for tax/document fees/liscense plate? Is that possible? I will be paying cash upfront for the Tc.

You won't be able to haggle tax unless you a politician.. :D

Same goes for licensing.

Doc fees should be fully negotiable, but don't be suprised if you hit a brick wall. If you want a tC, be prepared for them to stand firm, becuase if you don't buy, someone else will.

Having cash in hand will help...

Also look at the top right of the screen.. see the box that says "enter search terms"? Click in it and type "doc fees" and you'll see a whole list of forums that have already discussed this inside and out.

I wish. Mine is $170 bucks. I'm going to call today and see if it can get lowered. I obviously have learned that I can't get the taxes lowered!

Only if they dealer can haggle on the amount of tax they pay the state.

You just give them a check for the exact amount and then burn rubber out of there. Long live ***** Nelson!

It's not your responsibility to pay sales tax, therefore you are not evading taxes. Either way, sales tax will be paid. . . by the dealer. But in most transactions, the price of sales tax is not included to fool you into thinking that the price is less; a standard business strategy. But each time you make a sale, that money isn't immediately sent to the government, but that portion is allocated and saved until it is needed to be paid by the seller, when taxes are collected based on their receipts.

You can negotiate sales tax, although I'm not sure if Scion dealers will be willing to do that. Basically, they still pay the tax off the "sale price," but you are deffering some of that cost to the dealer. If they are desperate to sell, then they will be willing to do it. When I haggle a car's price, I ALWAYS haggle the "out-the-door" price, the bottom line cost of the car, but in the case of the Scion. . . good luck.

Yeah, I was just kidding. I realize that people normally evade their income taxes.

actually djtc i don't think that's how it works. the dealership has nothing to do with you paying your tax or license as those are state things.

we are taxed on the profits we make but that has nothing to do with your tax. auto tax is a state legislated thing which is why you are either given the information to pay it or it is mailed to you. since it is a state law there is no haggling with the dealer. on a toyota you might be able to get them to kick back some to you, or roll part of the tax into the sales price. with scion though it's not gonna happen.

one reason i know it's not a dealer thing and why we don't include it in the price is because in our state every tax amount is different on top of the fact that some people do not qualify to finance the tax in because of their credit. they would require the difference between allowable amount and total amount as a downpayment, and then we wouldn't sell as many cars because not very many people like putting money down. the auto industry brings enough revenue to the state so the state took it over instead of leaving it to the dealers.

wow. . . must be diff in OK, here in good ol CA, it's not treated that way. . . at least by my experience. I've NEVER had to pay the tax on my own, and it is completely the dealer's responsibility. It is a SALES tax. . . maybe you're talking about a vehicle tax, but what I'm talking about is the sales tax, which is treated as a sales tax, like any other. But even sales taxes are state mandated, so they can vary. I guess other states are less fortunate. . . or maybe I have it wrong, which isn't impossible. But financing the sales tax has never been an issue with any dealer I've ever encountered in CA, and every dealer has been willing to shift the tax burden as well, as I usually buy cars as new models are being rolled in (best time to buy). But I never tried that with the Scion, tax or no tax, I don't think they are set up to be haggled, and the headache, paper work, and trouble would just not be worth the effort by dealer, as they are selling pretty well now. I was very happy with my Scion purchase that I didn't get the usual SOB treatment from Toyota of charging a zillion fees for packages I don't want or need. I honestly HATE Toyota dealers. . . most, not all of them, are the scum of the planet, often surpassed by any of the big three by a large margin. Lexus. . . good job, Scion. . . good job, Toyota dealers. . . you can take a @#$(*^! and put it up your @#*!@#$. I almost didn't buy my Scion when I heard that I had to go within 2 feet of that damned Toyota dealer. Kinda ranting off topic now
