So I just got my CAI in the mail today and was very happy. Installation went okay, then i decided to make it a SRI instead of a CAI caues i didn't want to bother with taking the mud guards etc out and putting it in. SRI was hard enough.. i barely knew what the car's engine looked like but i managed. So everything goes well and i put it in, i proceed to start the engine, no ECL, but all of a sudden the engine dies. I go back, tighten the already tightened SRI, and start the engine, no ECL, but it dies seconds after i start it. Can someone please help =(.

Also if your in the OC area/Socal area and are willing to help when i decide to upgrade my SRI to a CAI, i'd greatly appreciate it and will give you some cash =). Thanks.

 

cai.. you just remove the front bumper.. no muds involved...

maybe the maf sensor.. check it..

 

Checked the MAF sensor.. Look's fine to me. Anyways, if there is a leak of air in the MAF, will the engine shut down ? If i put duct tape to tape it down on top of the MAF to prevent air from leaking will that solve the problem? Will it void my warranty?

 

no you dont need duct tape. did you put the battery back on correctly? maybe dust or something got on it.. i dunno. you must have touched / bumped something udner the hood.. never seen anything like this happen from a cai.

 

well i put the MAF sensor on correctly and duct taped it down, and it worked! Now i'm swamped with the worries of the tape falling off and my engine shutting down, worst case scenario, on the freeway =(. Heard it can also mess up the engine.. cry.. must find solution.. oO

 

you really should not need tape to seal it....... take out the make sensor and check the o ring around the maf and see if it is damaged.

 

It's not that, my tC's an 07, the injen intake is designed for 05-06's, in the 07's, it seems toyota redesigned the MAF sensor and it is not even close to fitting onto the bracket injen provides.

 

Take it off and put your stock one back on. Wait for an adapter.

to avoid any type of damage, it's best to either built your own adapter or wait for a 07 specific intake. 07 MAF is slightly different from 05-06.

 

Yes. Don't put the tape on there because it may give or tear and your engine will die. Like you said, it could happen on the freeway and you have some trouble avoiding a major accident. Put your stock intake back on until you can get an adapter for the 07 MAF sensor.

 

if your car is an 07.. i would highly suggest taht you do not run the intake. you can easily make an adapter so that it fits, its already been done i believe, just search around.

Also, the problem you are having i think is not because of the MAF.. because as you said you had tightened it in.. i think it may be the connection to the TB(throttle body).. because that happens alot, check the connection, becuase if the tube pops off.. it will shut your engine down immediately.. if you had a MAF problem the engine would not start period.

and i wouldnt worry about the CEL.. it intake shouldnt cause one unless your filter was really really oiled.

Put the stock intake back on and replace the resonator w/ a 1.5" quick cap from home depot and engine your louder stock airbox. The CAI is not worth the possible extra wear and tear on the engine or a bad MAF sensor.

 

he is gonna get an adapter made tomorrow... i will be installin his CAI part on sunday.

so no more worries

 

ok... and yes.. serious.. the whole 12 hp they claim to gain.. really does wear down your engine real quick... wears out your struts and tires the most... can you believe that.... cuz that has ot to be one of the weakest thing i've heard all day.

i am not serious at all... i'm just trying to say... what wear and tear could a cai possibly do to the engine.

 

A CAI will not have much wear and tear on the engine however a MAF sensor that does not fit properly may cause some extra wear and tear. It the MAF gets some wack airflow readings then the ECU is going to try and account for that by retuning the A/F. Maybe i worded my last post poorly that caused you to misunderstand. SR won't give you any noticable gains so your probably better off removing your stock resonator and capping it off instead.
