For sake of sounding like an idiot...what is powder coating? Is it just a coloring of the stock wheels?

umm its sorta like painting the wheel but a lot tougher because they put this powder on the object to be coated and then they actually heat it up and bake it on.

if you mean can they change the color of a chrome rim yes... they would just strip off the chrome then powder coat it. as far as can they make something chrome i know you can get something chromed but i dont think its done with powder coating.

Oh no...my chrome wheels are being delivered today by FedEx and I wanted to "color" portions of them. Does this powder coating hold up better than having them painted?

Default stupid question

can you tell me if my are powder coated or painted. The reason i ask is that is how i bought my car and i have alot of people asking me that question and i really do not know. So people who have seen my car let me know.
Thanks
Andrea
Sorry for sounding like an idiot

as far as powder coating holding up better than paint it absolutely does. as far as being able to powder coat just portions i dont know about that you would have to ask someone who does it. and streetracergirl i briefly saw yours at the last m&g i think and i didnt get a close enought look to tell for sure... though as an off hand question... anyone have there old rims that i could borrow for a few days so i can get mine powder coated? yes no maybe?

Steve,

Are there any places in the Puyallup/Auburn area that you know of that might do this? Or can you tell me who'd you recommend as doing a highly professional job?

I have to shy away from the recommend doing a highly professional job part.... it is a fairly simple process (with the right equipment) I would suggest taking your project in and see what they say!

i would love to change the color of mine to black but they are to wavey to do that, if they were like straight spoke rims maybe i would do it but one thing that gets me is why when the person who owned my car before me even thought that those rims even looked cool. cant wait to replace them and sorry eric i which the dealership would have given me the stock rims back you know i would have let you borrowed them, hey i do have spare rims buy they are a four lug : ( sorry
