View Full Version : Car wash improves performance?
TheRealBoxster 07-20-2006, 02:17 AM I know this sounds strange BUT after I wash my XB it seems to drive better :eyebrow: I know this is not true but it really does.
Have any of you had this experience or ever felt like this?
Rodek 07-20-2006, 02:53 AM I have. Seems to happen with all of my cars too! I notice the same phenomenon after an oil change.
ModelAXb 07-20-2006, 04:18 AM Ive read about this in car mags. If your car is dirty, drag really starts to kick in. Try waxing your car and then you really might tell a difference. Slick surfaces really cut down on drag.

What can you do to improve the aerodynmics of our boxes??? I can not believe wax is enough. I am sure we just feel better when our cars are clean and so feel they are driving better.............
hotbox05 07-20-2006, 06:04 AM our aerodynamics are actually veyr , very good.
mattxb 07-20-2006, 12:35 PM I notice the same thing.... no joke!
I think is the cars way of thanking me for keeping it so clean. :P
boomster 07-20-2006, 01:07 PM Lay of the crack!!!!! :lalala:
I think its just you feeling better about your car when its clean :P
Archngl 07-20-2006, 03:10 PM I second the fact that our aerodynamics are good.
We have less drag than alot of sport cars includign some ferarri's and lamborghini's. <---Can't find the link... but I'm sure someone can
ModelAXb 07-20-2006, 03:22 PM I friggin knew I saw it somewhere. No. 7.

D_M_A_N 07-20-2006, 03:41 PM I agree with boomster... I think this might be a mental problem... seek professional help
J/K
:D
TheRealBoxster 07-20-2006, 03:50 PM Thanks I reall appreciate that!!
I'm not that crazy!!
kkawana 07-20-2006, 04:55 PM eh... i dunno about it driving better.... but once its clean you'll get better mpg for a bit... once the bugs & dirt start piling up it will cause drag and stuff....
plane makers/airlines will tell you the same... clean fusalauge will improve fuel economy... even read recently that boeing wont let airlines paint the engine nacels/pods because the paint will cause more drag, disrupt airflow to engines...
PhillyCamoBox 07-20-2006, 05:47 PM hahaha ____ i wish
midtowndesi 07-20-2006, 05:50 PM What the ____ are you guys smokin', seriously? One person says this - I think AS A JOKE - and now everyone and their baby mommas are experiencing the same thing...
please lay off of whatever narcotics you guys are using - it's not good for you.

Big_Kokujin 07-20-2006, 06:06 PM Nah, its just that YOU drive better. I drive like a maniac when its dirty, but when i clean it, i cruise...so you driver better, not the box.
kkawana 07-20-2006, 06:32 PM lol.... eh.. im sure the improved MPG is not noticable in a tank to tank thing.... especially since you cant duplicate everything 100%
as for driving better its just like the "butt dyno"
Boxer_Rebellion 07-20-2006, 07:04 PM Why do you think cyclists shave? And they only go 30mph :)
kkawana 07-20-2006, 08:11 PM true... and swimmers
cherryBox 07-20-2006, 08:35 PM I always feel lke my car runs better after an oil change, but I have never noticed any difference after a wash. in fact, I drive really slow, so i don't get those annoying mirror drips. :P
vintage42 07-20-2006, 09:16 PM ...after I wash my XB it seems to drive better...Have any of you had this experience or ever felt like this?
It's a definite euphoria, doubly high if you also wash the engine (unless you get a spark plug wet). I wonder if you are sensing how much better the car feels, or the car senses how much better you feel. :P
xA_Factor 07-20-2006, 09:20 PM Why do you think cyclists shave? And they only go 30mph :)
So, you're saying that if I shave my crotch-fro and back hair I could run faster? :ponder:
kkawana 07-20-2006, 09:28 PM yeah... 2 fold.. cuz for any1 to notice you'll have to be nekkid.... and 2nd cuz you'll probably have some cops after you for indecent exposure
D_M_A_N 07-20-2006, 09:51 PM now THAT would be
running around naked from the cops like some meth, crack head.

If people can see your crotch fro, I sure hope you're riding fast :)
Def affirmative on the back hair tho, perhaps a .02 drag reduction? Depends on the surface area i would guess...

Umm...I was thinking of all the times I go jogging topless in my speedo. :P
susano705 07-25-2006, 01:19 AM I've noticed the car wash = drives better phenom on all my cars but only if I run them thru a car wash. I subscribe to 2 theories: 1) look good, feel good and 2) the undercarriage spray gets rid of dirt and crap under the car that helps it run better (especially in winter). Maybe not, but it's a nice thought....
RBasil 07-25-2006, 01:47 AM If you really think a little bit of dirt and bugs are going to hurt your MPG I have some swamp land in Flroida for sale.
xA_Factor 07-25-2006, 09:20 PM I thought there WAS swamp land in Florida? :ponder:
