Default GPS System in tC

I definately am looking to put a GPS system in my tC... Am I able to do this through the dealer or would I have to look elsewhere? If I have to looksomewhere else, what should I look to get?

get a iPAQ 1945 and blueteeth enable GPS reciever, total cost won't go over 500 if you shop online. plus you can update map data and feature if new software is abaliable. also, you get a PDA. plus, you don't need to "install" it and can be use at any car.

that's what i am using in my 93 corolla now(except i use a viewsonic v35 and an old gps reciever use serial communication, total cost 370, that's a years ago).

simple approach is the in dash units from all the major brands... Pioneer, Alpine, etc... they are jacks of all trades... DVDs, radio, XM, CD, changers, MP3s on CD... check http://www.crutchfield.com

the fancy and powerful approach is a full blown computer system complete with wifi, etc... the sky is the limit... check out http://www.mp3car.com be sure to check out the forums, towards the bottom they have a show off section... UNBELIEVABLE quality these guys are doing...

gimme till the end of the month to complete my tC install... almost everything is ready to go...

AVN2454 all in one unit (no hideaway)
TC harness is compatible, plays CD, DVD, MP3. Has Sirus connector (not XM)
3 Wires to connect, power, VCC, Break ( mount antenna).

I was curious is the double din screen units were gonna fit... so any clue on the others?? the Kenwood slides differently...

also, these units are in the $1500 MSRP and up price category, for those interested...

You can pick up the AVN2454 at any eclipse dealer it is going to cost you between $2000 and $2500 installed.. I picked up my unit on Ebay (new) for $1725 and had it installed for $100.

I have to call the installer on monday. I can't find WHERE THE HECK he put the GPS antenna...... I mean I ge excellent signal but I can't find it. He did a great job.

The Kenwood is basically the same unit only it has a hideaway unit which will need to be mounted under the seat.

I actually like the features of the Pioneer better then Kenwood and Eclipse but it just doesn't work in the TC. I also don't like having a retractible screen. Hopefully Pioneer comes out with a Double DIn unit.

But the AVN does have a gyroscope and uses your VCC to detect speed so even when there is signal loss (downtown) you stay ontrack.

Wow, that AVN2454 looks really nice. Does it have in A/V inputs? Is it possible to connect a PS2 or somthing of the sort to it?

I found that site, I have looked all over it. Found no pricing info, and nothing about A/V inputs.

That’s a very nice looking unit, it's touch screen, and has such a clean setup (physically). What I would really appreciate are some of your impressions of the unit. For example, what do you think of the picture quality, how good is the touch screen, how well do DVDs play, is skipping an issue, how does it sounds w/ stock speakers (if you haven't replaced them already), do you like the nav. function, will it drive the car by itself :D, etc? Thanks in advance.

On a side note, is there anyway to get around the video being disabled when the car is in motion? No, I don’t want to watch DVDs while I'm driving but I'm sure my passenger would appreciate it if (s)he could on long trips. I wonder if video is still fed to any external displays you have connected to it when the car is moving....

Default Navi accuracy on AVN2454

Samendolaro,

I got this same unit installed yesterday in my TC by the GoodGuys but the NAVI is not very accurate (especially on the freeway or at night). Are you getting the same issues? Please e-mail me at lazyleg@hotmail.com. I also have an Acura RL with NAVI and that thing is dead-on.

How does it sound? Do the stock speakers do well with he extra wattage? Do you think you will get a significant improvement if you replace the speakers?

Stole this fromt he Eclipse Website: Just thought some would like to know.....good feature I guess, but not if you have a passenger that actually wants to watch a DVD

Note:DVD and video facilities are disabled when the vehicle is in motion.
Inserting a DVD will only allow the audio to be heard

I another thread ( https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...hlight=avn2454 ) samendolaro said they installed a toggle switch that tricks it into thinking it is in park so he can watch DVDs on the road. I hope my installer will do that.

Does anyone know the price of the in-dash double din eclipses that DON'T include navigation? Are they significantly cheaper? I think there are one or two of these... but I haven't found info on them. Also, has anyone found any more units like these without the flip-out screen. I posted this before a while ago from what I've found so far there are the eclipses and a kenwood... any more?
