Default DraXas exhaust rattle...

To all of you with the DraXas exhaust with s-pipe do you have a problem with it hitting the heat shield in front of the rear tires? Rarely at idle mine rattles against it and I am trying to adjust it to not do so without much luck. I am just wondering if anyone else has had this issue.

Thanks for any ideas, and I'm going to shoot DraXas an e-mail as well.

lol - yup i knew 100% what you are talking about. To fix that you need to take the axel back off ....take the shield off .... bang it with a rubber hammer (or whatever) and put it back on. If you have the exhaust on your car for a few weeks you should be able to see the marks where its hitting. The problem is that the exhaust moves about 1/8inch in both directions. This 1/4inch movement is barely touching the shield. That cheap tin hitting the exhaust sounds bad but in reality...its not that bad at all. Do what I said and you can fix the problem.

yea - try it out - you will prob want to take off the shield because the part you want to hit is directly under the exhaust.

First THANK YOU!, second my shoulder is killing me from swinging the hammer and mallet with car only 8-10 inches off the ground... I know I need a better jack but it worked and after removing the rear section twice I think I have it eliminated. The first beating created another rattle but the second beating, beat it into submission... :-)

Try having an ingalls stiffy stuck on the 10mm (stiffest) setting for over 2 months now.

Yes, I am blaming the poor design. It's a hollowed out can with a perferated tube inside. They claim it is packed but if it were, it wouldn't be this high of a rattleing noise. I'm cutting my muffler off and going to spintech.

so your sayin that if my exhaust is makin a rattling noise around 4k rpm then my rear section is bad? it only does when im hard in the gas or rev up to 4k not at an idle.

Since my past post, I have come to the realization that it's just the design of the muffler. A hollow can with a perforated tube and no packing. It's going to be high pitched at certain rpms. After a good 7-8K miles, it has calmed down. The carbon from the exhaust will slowly start to fill the canister and dull the sound. It's not a bad muffler, just a bad design IMO.

well i hope your right. i hate the thought of spending that much money for what draxas calls a "quallity product." i love the sound of it until it starts rattling.

I agree with you 100%. The sound is great, up until it shakes. I've welded support brackets on the tip thinking it was just extending too long but that didn't help. Try this just to see the difference.

Have someone with a leather or some type of heat resistant glove push up on the muffler a bit and you rev it up high. It will actually not rattle b/c of the extra deadening from the body pushing up on it. That's why, hopefully the carbon deposits will begin to deaden it as time goes on.

i will try that and if by me pushing on the muffler stops the rattling i will have to talk to draxas about this and see what they say

I've already tried and about a week ago, I saw a post on here that Nick, the VP of Draxas,, was selling the brand. That's no good. This is the second muffler from them and it's that same sound. It's just the design. He never got back to me about sending my old muffler back and after 1 month, i just threw it away. I have the second one on here and am just dealing with the sound. It was expensive, but it's going to cost more money to get another muffler and get it welded on. Not worth it to me. I'll just rig something or wait to see what happenes if you get throught to them. I emailed and called for 2-3 days straight and never got a response.

yeah i already sent an email this morning. i think it will suck really bad for us who bought draxas when they sell i believe that our warranty is going to be crap. thats one of the main reasons that i bought draxas for the warranty and that i hear customer service was great. so i hope whatever happens is for the best. i cant believe i paid this much money for a crappy rattling sound i could have got off ebay for a quarter of the price. i cant stand poor quality
