View Full Version : DraXas exhaust rattle...
kyle1745 07-24-2006, 12:58 AM To all of you with the DraXas exhaust with s-pipe do you have a problem with it hitting the heat shield in front of the rear tires? Rarely at idle mine rattles against it and I am trying to adjust it to not do so without much luck. I am just wondering if anyone else has had this issue.
Thanks for any ideas, and I'm going to shoot DraXas an e-mail as well.
jwaggz82 07-24-2006, 01:51 AM lol - yup i knew 100% what you are talking about. To fix that you need to take the axel back off ....take the shield off .... bang it with a rubber hammer (or whatever) and put it back on. If you have the exhaust on your car for a few weeks you should be able to see the marks where its hitting. The problem is that the exhaust moves about 1/8inch in both directions. This 1/4inch movement is barely touching the shield. That cheap tin hitting the exhaust sounds bad but in reality...its not that bad at all. Do what I said and you can fix the problem.
kyle1745 07-24-2006, 02:31 AM Thanks and that thought had crossed my mind... Ill have to see if I can get some time...
jwaggz82 07-24-2006, 02:41 AM n/p - it will work ... the exhaust is only barely hitting it to begin w/
kyle1745 07-24-2006, 02:43 AM Ya its only very rare at idle... rest of the time its fine. I love the sound of this thing...
Ill pick up a mallet and try it... Im beting like you said it will not take much.
jwaggz82 07-24-2006, 10:54 PM yea - try it out - you will prob want to take off the shield because the part you want to hit is directly under the exhaust.
kyle1745 07-25-2006, 01:56 AM First THANK YOU!, second my shoulder is killing me from swinging the hammer and mallet with car only 8-10 inches off the ground... I know I need a better jack but it worked and after removing the rear section twice I think I have it eliminated. The first beating created another rattle but the second beating, beat it into submission... :-)
jwaggz82 07-25-2006, 02:44 AM nice - im glad it worked ....my car was 100% the same .... it was fine till i pulled up to a light. Its hard to look cool w/ your car going BBBBRRRRREEERRRRRRRRRR ...ha. Now that thats gone you will be very happy w/ the exhaust because it sounds sweet.
kyle1745 07-25-2006, 02:45 AM oh ya I don't think there is a better sounding exhaust out for the car.
jwaggz82 07-25-2006, 03:17 AM if there is i havent heard it yet.
IceNine 09-20-2006, 12:00 PM Hate to wake up an old thread, but I have a rattle right around 4k RPM.... anyone experience that?

Try having an ingalls stiffy stuck on the 10mm (stiffest) setting for over 2 months now. :(

Yes, I am blaming the poor design. It's a hollowed out can with a perferated tube inside. They claim it is packed but if it were, it wouldn't be this high of a rattleing noise. I'm cutting my muffler off and going to spintech.
bassmaster2686 10-16-2006, 07:36 PM so your sayin that if my exhaust is makin a rattling noise around 4k rpm then my rear section is bad? it only does when im hard in the gas or rev up to 4k not at an idle.
Since my past post, I have come to the realization that it's just the design of the muffler. A hollow can with a perforated tube and no packing. It's going to be high pitched at certain rpms. After a good 7-8K miles, it has calmed down. The carbon from the exhaust will slowly start to fill the canister and dull the sound. It's not a bad muffler, just a bad design IMO.
bassmaster2686 10-17-2006, 10:59 AM well i hope your right. i hate the thought of spending that much money for what draxas calls a "quallity product." i love the sound of it until it starts rattling.
I agree with you 100%. The sound is great, up until it shakes. I've welded support brackets on the tip thinking it was just extending too long but that didn't help. Try this just to see the difference.
Have someone with a leather or some type of heat resistant glove push up on the muffler a bit and you rev it up high. It will actually not rattle b/c of the extra deadening from the body pushing up on it. That's why, hopefully the carbon deposits will begin to deaden it as time goes on.
bassmaster2686 10-17-2006, 02:09 PM i will try that and if by me pushing on the muffler stops the rattling i will have to talk to draxas about this and see what they say
I've already tried and about a week ago, I saw a post on here that Nick, the VP of Draxas,, was selling the brand. That's no good. This is the second muffler from them and it's that same sound. It's just the design. He never got back to me about sending my old muffler back and after 1 month, i just threw it away. I have the second one on here and am just dealing with the sound. It was expensive, but it's going to cost more money to get another muffler and get it welded on. Not worth it to me. I'll just rig something or wait to see what happenes if you get throught to them. I emailed and called for 2-3 days straight and never got a response.
bassmaster2686 10-17-2006, 02:20 PM yeah i already sent an email this morning. i think it will suck really bad for us who bought draxas when they sell i believe that our warranty is going to be crap. thats one of the main reasons that i bought draxas for the warranty and that i hear customer service was great. so i hope whatever happens is for the best. i cant believe i paid this much money for a crappy rattling sound i could have got off ebay for a quarter of the price. i cant stand poor quality
I hear you on that. The overall design of the muffler would have been better if it was packed. The fact that it's hollow with the perforated tube just makes it a quick/cheap design. The s-pipe is great but the mid pipe would have been nice if it was flanged so that we could put on another rear section rather than just have it sleeved so it only fits a Draxas muffler. That's crap.
bassmaster2686 10-17-2006, 02:30 PM yeah that sleeved rear section sucks. im gonna try something real quick and see if it works.
bassmaster2686 10-17-2006, 02:35 PM never mind i might try it when its not raining. hopefully tommorow.

I'm having this issue also. It's starting to annoy me. May go with a different exhaust because of it although I hate to since the Draxas was a tad expensive...

I really hope you guys dont just have that heat shield making noise ..... because I posted a writeup a long time ago about how to fix that ....take the back muffler off ... take the heat shield off ... look at where its rubbing .... bang the crap out of it ... put it back on ...put the muffler back on.

I'll definitely check. I hope that's the case since I really like the way the exhaust sounds.
jwaggz82 10-18-2006, 11:14 AM i had a rattle when i was at stop lights - did ^ that and im all set.

Not in my case. The rear heat shield over the muffler is off completely and the rest of them moving up I have heat resistent foam packed behind it. All of the shields are bent away from the pipe. Mine is just the muffler housing itself.
DouBLeJ16 10-18-2006, 02:00 PM I noticed that the day I took off my stiffy I began to have a slight exhaust rattle when I start the car in the morning.
It probably rattles after that also, but the car is so loud I can't hear it.
Anyone else having this problem with the full megan setup?
