question about the TRD quick shifter and assembly clutch
I am about to buy a 06 scion XB in the next 2-3 days and I am getting a manual but I was wondering if it is worth spending the extra money on the TRD quick shifter and assembly clutch optional equipment. I have driven an automatic most of my life so this will be my forst standard transmission. I have driven some of my friends cars that have manual but I will have to get used to driving one every day.
currenlty these are the options I am getting
an 06 in black sand pearl with:
rear spoiler
ipod radio upgrade
TRD rear lights
arm rest
vehicle shield protection
floor mats
cargo cover

you should not buy the following from the dealer:
Quickshifter
TRD Clutch Assembly (I wouldn't buy this anyways, it's a waste of money)
TYC tail lights
Arm rest
Floor Mats
and skip the cargo cover, it's very flimsy, and most people get rid of theirs.

thanks for the reply, I am probably going to the dealer after work today to sign the paperwork. only reason I was thinking of the cargo cover is that the area I live in is an good neighborhood but it is a transitional neighborhood and there are alot of issues with people trying to take stuff from cars and I have to park in the street so I figured the cargo cover would help conceal anything I had in the back of the car.
Well, I never finished my post, my bad.
But avoid the products I listed, because you can find them cheaper online on websites like www.trdsparks.com
Check out the tech section, someone made their own cargo cover. There's also a JDM hard cargo cover, which you can get on www.newscionparts.com

thanks for the websites, I will order some of the other parts from there. is there anything special about the Scion security system, I was just thinking of going to best buy and getting a basic viper alarm system for it.

Stick with the standard shifter, and learn to use it gently. As it is, you could be immediately unhappy with the feel, and soon you could be complaining about gear grinding and clutch slip. Many here have.
I have only owned sticks, and love my xB's clutch and transmission. It is the easiest and smoothest clutch and transmission I have ever had, and I savor every shift, but very many more knowledgeable people here have pronounced the xB clutch/transmission combo to be crap.
On the other hand, everyone agrees that the xB's automatic transmission is the very best there is. It seems that anyone who has the slightest suspicion about the manual should get the automatic.
I really like my trd shifter- it just has a better, more positive feel than the original, and eliminated any vagueness, particularly wrt second gear downshifting...
But I prefer a gearbox, and have driven them for many years. I've never owned an automatic transmission car my whole life. I do own an ancient automatic ford pickup used for occasional hauling, and wish it had a gearbox...
If you're mechanically inclined at all, and have access to tools, then you'll save the shifter installation cost with a diy... It's a little bit of a pita, particularly the spring clips, but you may never earn a higher wage in your life...
The trd clutch apparently uses the stock disk and a stronger pressure plate. Which isn't a bad thing, per se- depends on how you drive. Having it dealer installed has warranty advantages... The stock clutch seems fine for normal driving. Mine chattered occasionally when new, but seems to have worn in nicely at a lowly 2K miles...

I felt my clutch chatter a few times during the first 1000 miles, but not in the 4000 miles since then. I guess that is from wearing in.
My advice for you would be to get the shifter if you want it, but hold off on the clutch because you'll probally burn it out quick since it's your first manual. I speaking from experience. I bought an 05 Black Sand Pearl manual last year and it was my first stick, I burned the clutch out in 6 months. I then got the TRD performance clutch and the TRD short shifter and had no problems with it. Unfortunately I got rear ended and it was totaled only to get an RS3 but it's an auto. Also, look for the shifter on ebay, I got mine new for $65 including shipping. Good luck!
My shifter came from ebay, as well- slightly used, but in the original box, etc- I really didn't like they way they dealt with the boot, so I bored out the plastic collar to fit the larger diameter shaft, taped some foamed neoprene to the shaft to hold up the collar... stock ****, looks completely factory...
