2-tone paint and dynamat questions, I'm new be gentle...
I'm going to be a new Xb owner soon and I'm really excited! I know I want to do a bit of customization like a two tone paint job (thinking factory silver on top/ high gloss black on bottom, red pin stripe) If anyone has any info like average price or even some pictures, I would greatly appreciate it. Also is dynamat worth it I work at bestbuy so price isnt going to be a problem, but is it hard to install or should it be done by proffesionals. Long post but thanks ahead of time for your responses.
congrats on the soon to be purchase...
paint job will probably run you close to 2500 minimum to be done decent/right
dynamat is easy to install... taking appart the car is easy too... read the "how too" in the ICE section and you should be all set

I've never seen a 2-tone xB paint job which I liked.
Sorry.
So I would say "don't do it". But you don't have to listen of course.
Can't help you with Dynomat. My factory stereo sounds just fine as-is. I have no "farting-bass" problems.
Besides, I've heard that this stuff is heavy. I bought my box for the fuel economy. So, I am keeping it as light as possible.

well if you have access to a paint booth and all the necessary equipment, you should only have to pay for materials and pizza, which came to about $375.18 if i added correctly......
my paint job would have cost someone coming in off the street ~$3500... which included taking the car apart, sanding and smoothing EVERYTHING, painting the car two colors that it never was in the first place, and reasembly...... and be prepared to nvest some money into a rental while the car is in the shop, im a perfectionist, and it took me almost 3 weeks to get the paint perfect (and still there is a little wave in the line on the driver side)
dynomat does weigh a bit, but if you only use it the troublesome spots then you should be fine.... (doors/hatch/tunnel on the floor/under were spare is)
but then again, you could pull everything out of the car and apply a layer of the duplicolor roll on truck bed coating.... works wonders like you would not believe

Dynamat isnt that heavy is it? I really just want to sound-proof the doors and back to make them sound solid and sturdy . I was going to by four dynamat extreme door kits for $35 a piece, would the weight on my car make that big of a difference?
nah ..that wieght wont be noticiable in day to day stuff... i think my speaker box causes a bigger difference than the 75sq ft of dynamat xtreme i have layerd in my car
but it does give you the nice THUD when closing the doors

Somewhere here there's a thread that suggested you get max benefit just from doing the hatch, and then the rear floor (IIRC). Rather than doing the whole thing in one go, you could try one zone, see if it's good enough, and if not, lather, rinse, repeat.
I'd guess most of the sound deadening companies have specs on how much much their stuff weighs per unit area. It shouldn't be too hard to estimate how much weight you'd add, depending on which areas you cover and how many layers you use.
Re: two-tone: do a search - there's a two-tone xB thread with lots of pics.

75ft... or whatever was in the bulk pack of dynamat extreme.... all 4 doors, foot wells, "trunk" floor, few strips on hatch and roof...
when pulling out the carpet.. theres some styrofoam in the front foot wells... didnt take those out or cover them... but i'd say 95% of my floor is coverd front to back

This stuff is suppose to be the best bang for the buck! If course Dynamat is the best brand out there, but if you want to do the whole vehicle, you could probably buy a whole roll of this stuff for less than the price of the 4 doors.

Also read up on the different sound deadeners before you make your decision. I found a good article to read. It tells you the diff between all of the major brands. Like what they are made of, pro's and con's of each.

I will be doing my box sometime in the future. And I plan on getting a couple of rolls of the rammat.
And as far as the weight this stuff adds on ... its not that big of a deal IMO.

I wasn't trying to imply that Dynomat will weigh like 100lb!
But the lighter the car is, more fuel economy you'll get out of it. If you want a great sound system, go 4 it!
I don't really need subs or Dynomat , so I'm runnning light :D

i never trusted a sub being in the floor, i was always scared of something setting ontop of it
if you want just one 10/12 just geat a square sealed box for it, after all you bought an xB so you must have a thing for sealed square things
