Default RCA length?

Hey guys,
My amp wiring kit is out for delivery, so I hope to run that and finish running my RCAs to the rear.

My question is: Right now I only have one set of RCAs, as I am only hooking up an amp to power a single sub. Should 9-10ft be long enough to run from the HU around the passenger side and back to the back of the rear seats? I plan on mounting the amp in that general vicinity. I am hoping I don't need more, but after looking at everything I am not sure if 9-10ft will be long enough to make it back there. I want to have everything ready to go when I start the install and don't want to have to run up to the store while I have stuff apart.

Any of you that have run your own wiring, any numbers you can provide would be much appreciated

I wish I had the foresight to measure mine when I installed them, but I didn't bother because I made mine from scratch. Sorry.

I would think that those would be more than long enough. But I havent measured all of that.

When you say "around the passenger side", do you mean to the right of the seat along the door sill, or left of the passenger seat along the console? I haven't measured, but if the former I'd guess ~12ft, and for the latter your 9-10ft guesstimate may suffice. You really should measure first to be certain, and I'd suggest using twisted-pair cables.

the former. I always run my RCAs down the door. I am thinking it's going to be a little short as well. Thanks for the info, maybe I will go buy a new set first. *sigh*

I believe I used a 12 foot RCA Cable from the HU to the amp in the trunk (Under the seat). There was about a foot of slack.

Well considering that it's not a straight shot, it would be hard to measure the length that way.

thanks guys, it does indeed look like 9' is too short, so I will be making a stop tonight or tomorrow to grab a set of 12'

Side note: Krdshrk did you used to be on club3g.com?

just an update. Bought a pair of 12' RCAs and they barely reach around to rear of the back seat. Just for informational purposes :p

I have 6m ones.

They reach anywhere I want.

Ironically, they're spooled up behind my rear panels because I didn't need them as long as I originally thought.

How did you route it? I went through the passenger side, under the door sill section, under the rear passenger side door panel, into the trunk.

That's the same as I did basically.

From HU->under passenger carpet->behind kick panel->down door sill in white clips->behind rear seat panel/window area->under passenger rear seat->up through the angled flap.

In the following pic, the RCAs attach to the amp on the side closest to the body of the passenger side of the car (hidden by the speaker box in the pic). They won't reach but maybe 1 inch past that point. And yes, I know I need to clean up the wiring and do something about the leaning seat plate there :p

I was actually quite surprised. I bought the amp, sub and box from Nick06tc and he had it hooked up to the stock HU, with the gain all the way down.

I hooked it up to a Pioneer deck and currently have the gain at ~50% or so. It sounds great when listening to rap, which I don't. It hits quite hard, for a single 12. For rock (which is what I listen to), most of it sounds good but there are a few songs here and there where it sounds a little awkward. Probably more the sub/box than anything.

All in all, I am surprised and happy with how the amp is pushing the sub. My lights don't dim at all, even with it cranked way up. Much better than the Kenwood and Massive amps I used in the last 5 years to push two kenwood 12s.

Rock music you need smaller subs... even my 10's don't sound that great. It depends on the song but some are more treble'y. Play with the EQ if you can.
