Maybe I am missing something, but I have never had this happen before.

I never tried AM on the stock radio, but I reckon it worked fine. Anyhow, I installed a Pioneer P5800MP about a week ago. Everything works fine except for the AM band.

I get all the local FM stations just fine, but not a single AM station. This is odd as there are probably at least 7 that should come in. I mainly use the AM band to monitor the local traffic, as they have a station dedicated to listing delays at the many different tunnels and bridges we have.

I hooked up the antenna wire to the back of the deck just like normal. Is there something I am missing here?

Currently I am still using the stock antenna... Anyone ever encountered this? Maybe I need to reseat the antenna wire?

Mine did the same thing when I installed my Pioneer stereo. Kinda sucks when you are trying to dodge traffic.

Last I knew the external antenna was for the FM there should be an internal antenna for the AM. (I took some classes on radio a few years ago) I would contact Pioneer and see if they have had complants.

Did you connect the blue wire to the harness?

get satellite. I haven't heard a commercial with my music in years.

Yeah when you live in New York. They don't know too much about Central Kentucky roads though, lol.

i never use the traffic or weather channels anyway. if it's backed up, it's backed up and your screwed. and by the time i hear about rain later in the day who cares...i already forgot to pack the umbrella so i'm getting wet regardless.

just sit in traffic like the rest of us!

I have the DEH-P8MP and I have the same problem with AM reception. I have Sirius so it doesnt matter to me..... but, my fiance has the 7800(?) in her mustang and it gets no AM reception either. I think it's just a Pioneer thing.

AM radio works with aftermarket units. I have a pioneer navigation. You just need to connect the Blue antenna wire on the harness. I figured this out the hard way.
