Default question about painting and color-matching

didn't know where this went, but...

i was gonna get the OEM lip kit; now i might get the RS1. the one thing that was keeping me from looking at the RS1 is that i would have to have it painted.

my question is - is there a way to know how good a company is at matching before i pay? i have an fm and i've heard it's a difficult color to match. will they be upfront about how good they actually are? i've been doing everything i can to avoid 'ricing' my tc and an off-color lip kit probably won't help. :/

it's usually extremely difficult to match unless paint is blended which means painting adjacent panels. you can ask the paintshop you go to to see their previous work. paint with metallic flakes and pearls are generally harder to match.

using a quality paint is an important step to take. Your more likely to get a good match with a $50 per pint paint then you would with a $10 per pint paint (i dont know about prices, i'm just throwing numbers out there). It's another one of those you get what you pay for things.
