Carbon Fiber Craze?
Ok, so I am sure I am going to get flamed for asking this....but what is up with the carbon fiber craze? Yes, I know it is lighter, and on some color cars, a carbon fiber hood looks good, but when you have carbon fiber doors, hatch, fenders, lip, I think it just looks weird. Maybe I am the only one, but I think TOO much carbon fiber ruins a car. Tell me your opinions.
I dont really care for the look personally. Some cars look good with the hoods.. but that is about it.
As far as weight savings, 99.99% of all carbon fiber hoods are not 100% CF, they are a fiberglass skeleton with CF over it. So you are not realizing the complete weight savings of the CF. A true 100% CF hood would be closer to $1000 for this car. CF is MUCH lighter than steel for the same strength, so if you really did have 100% CF fenders, hood and roof it would save a good amount of weight.. but probably not enough to justify the cost. and even then I would paint every bit of it. Personally I think it begins to get tacky looking.

I agree. CF is only good when there is little of it and it highlights certain parts of the car. It is an ugly a$$ material so moderation in use will get you best results. I am not a fan of full CF exterior panels.
It was never made for looks... Carbon fiber used to be used in great amounts on drag cars (and still is today) but back then it was all painted so that it didn't look like CF. But CF is no longer a performance material, it's a cosmetic material... sadly, even though I do like some CF, using what is supposed to be performance modifications as not is, in my mind, rice.

All scion's already have a fairly light hood so it's definately not worth it.
so I was going to ask if anyone thought a silver cf hood on the csm tC would look alright....but I guess I know what my answer would be.
I don't want the black hood. I want a vented hood to get the heat out of the engine bay with the s/c and possibly one day mount the tmic on there to take advantage of short charge piping...dag.

That wasn't a post in response to you; it's simply stating that this whole thread is a repost.
Honestly, if you like it, get it. It's good for the economy and it's good for you. I don't like black CF on CSM or SSM and I've yet to see silver CF. Honestly, I imagine silver CF would look better on white. Who knows though.
IMO, go for it.
Scion.
What moves you. If CF moves you, that's your deal. More power to you if you're happy with your car.
Just, imo, not an ounce of CF will show through on my car.
