Default Is it worth $8k

I dont know what thread to put this in but it has to do with FI and all.

I'm thinking if its worth me dropping about another 8k into my car to build up motor and LSD, and everything else need to be able to handle about 500hp. It would be nice to have tC at that power but is it worth it?

Or should i just go buy another car? But my problem there is that i am really picky when it comes to cars. Right now the only cars worth it to me is either a 350z or a new M3 and i dont have BMW money.

If i buy a 350z most of the 8k will go into a down payment and i will have to start all over again with a stock car.

Just want opinions!!! NO BASHING!

I think it would be cool - but in all practical thinking you won't be able to hold that on the ground.

The Nitto tC doesn't drive around on full boost he said it becomes no fun at that high of horsepower.

You would be sacrificing any shred of daily drive-ability in order to achieve that.

IMO if you want that kind of power, use 1500-2000 of it to buy an old muscle car or an older 240/300zx or something and spend the rest building that up.

If the tc no longer makes you happy, then it is time to move on...

Now that I read the rest of your post (lol)...

You will end up spending a lot more than 8 grand if you swap to a 350z or any other higher end car. Buying an older car and putting 5-6-7 grand into it will yield.....muuuucch better results than just trading up to a 350z.

With that, you're paying 8g + your tC + higher monthly payments + higher insurance.

Old beater car = one time cost, no payments, low insurance, much more room for extremely cost-effective power.

I'm actually going over this option myself.

im going through a similar battle although not close to 8k. im at the stage where ive spent only bout 2k into the tC and am thinking of dropping 3.5-4 more going FI with it... but i look at BRAND NEW 350z's for 27k and i feel like an idiot... in my humble opinion id say a stock 350z beats out every tC with ground effects and rims.

INstead of the 350z get an evo 8 or 9. great car if you want to put down power and without spending that much money, cant beat a 4g63 ;)

One of our car club members is doing this right now to his tC, it should be up and running by next week, then I'll have him post how he feels about the whole built for you.

If you want that much hp.. and want to drive it on a regular basis. Buy a rwd or AWD platform. That much on a FWD is totally impractical. You could build that much HP in a small block for less money and never even think of boost. And drop it in a RWD platform that is better for drag racing all the way around to start with.

But if you just want to see how far you can push the tC.. then go for it. Projects are always fun. But you can garauntee it will be costly and definitely not a daily driver.

Well, you will NEED to do this, because Huberts car is almost done and you need some way to keep up with him at the track......

Mine will be fully built with LSD. Bored, stroked and major head work, the whole works as well as a one-off custom axle. I love the tC, with more power just makes it better. So all said and done bro I say go for. Not many people have a 400+ scion tC. IMO I love to be different, I do understand that FWD cars are not the prefered platform for drag but I prefer to be a highway king.

I just like the idea of one of a kind cars so my choice would of course be an uber-powerful tC.. Although I miss my Evo and still wish I was modding that instead.

As for the highway king quoted above... With this kind of HP it'd almos be a joke. My car already tops out way too fast with just 300whp. Having 500hp would be fun don't get me wrong, but we need a new transmission first (or at least an altered final drive ration) in order to utilize the power. SRTs can hit 130 in 4th, and they got a whole gear left! We may hit 130 first (and look good doing it ) but after that it's a game of how long u were in front.

I would be more content spending this much money in a "COLLECTABLE CAR"

Example:

Toyota Supra
Skyline
Classic Muscle Cars

.........Has anyone driven the new 06' V8 Mustangs?

I love the new body and heard its not as bad as the previous Mustangs.

i was on the same exact boat as you were, but i already spent over 5K on turbo kit parts and was deciding to go into the deep end and build the entire motor. i ended up getting an evo

as for insurance. my tc alone with full coverage was about 245 a month. if i was going to get insurance for the evo alone would be 325. but the thing is i also have a 95 elantra, so adding the elantra to my policy i would get the multi car discount and i put the elantra as my primary vehicle. now im paying a 270 a month for both cars. not too shabby if you ask me. still expensive to what other people are getting as for rates go, but you have to keep in mind im only 22

We need a final gear ratio change + a speed limiter cut, and we would be straight for those of us pushing the tC beyond 300whp.

IMO, I love both of our cars 350Z and the tC. If I had to pick our boosted tC or the 350Z, I would just as well shoot myself. The Z is not close to being as fast as even a 300whp tC, let alone a 500whp. But when I look at the Z, It has the POTENTIAL to drift, drag, and out corner the tC when I get a chance to start modding it. I would have to disagree on the 500hp tC not being driveable. That's nothing a simple Boost controller can't take care of (300-400hp daily, and 500hp track), it still would be a 500hp tC. That would be some major fun. However, you would have to run nothing but DR's daily IMO.

I'd keep the car and get the SP crew to drop in a Toyota Previa AWD engine and tranny. then add the turbo kit to that and you'll be:

1. Boosted
2. AWD
3. Only tC that's AWD
4. Famous w/ lots of sponsors

ebay has a 2az-fe motor with AWD tranny for $895. It's a steal.

Sounds good but then im going from a 8k project to about a 20k project. At that point i would rather get an M3.

If i did build the motor than with the AEM i would have my setting for DAILY DRIVEN at about 350hp and then only run more HP at the track.

I was thinkin of just stickin with only have a 350hp set up but eventually the motor will give and then the problems start. If i run 350 i want to run it safely so that would mean to build the motor, BUT would i have to do everything for example...sleeves, pistons, rods, bearings, i would bore it out.

Or could i just get a few of those things and be fine? I know i can do some of the work myself but only to a certian point then i would need SP's help and then thats when the big bucks come out for labor even though i get a different rate then other customers.
